Why you need to reset Xiaomi headphones and when to use it
Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earbuds (including Basic 2, SE, Pro) are a popular solution for music lovers, but even they sometimes fail. Factory reset is a last resort to help restore the device to work when standard methods fail.
First, if the headphones stopped connecting to a smartphone or other device despite having previously been stable, this can be due to a firmware failure or a conflict with the Bluetooth cache. Second, when one of the headphones does not play sound or works with distortions β for example, the right earphone connects and the left one is silent. Third, a reset is necessary after a failed firmware update, when the device begins to behave unpredictably: spontaneously shuts down, does not respond to touches or emits errors when synchronizing.
It's important to understand that resetting is not a panacea. If the problem is a physical breakdown (for example, a damaged speaker or battery), software manipulation will not help. Nor should you just reset Xiaomi headphones, after the procedure you have to reconfigure gestures, connect the device to the phone and possibly update the firmware. But if there are no alternatives, our guide will help you do everything right.
Preparation for resetting: what to do in advance
Before you drop Mi True Wireless Earbuds, follow a few mandatory steps that will save you time and save you more time.
First, check the headphones and the case, make sure both earbuds are at least 30 percent charged, and the case has at least 20 percent charge left, and if the battery is discharged, the reset may be incorrect or interrupted in the middle, and also disconnect the headphones from all devices they were previously connected to.
- π± On Android: Go to Settings β Bluetooth, find Mi True Wireless Earbuds and click Forget DeviceΒ».
- π On iPhone: Go to Settings β Bluetooth, tap the βiβ icon next to your headphones and select βForget this deviceΒ».
- π» Nana Windows/macOS: Remove headphones from the list of conjugated devices in Bluetooth settings.
If you have previously installed custom firmware or used third-party customization apps (such as Mi Earphones or Xiaomi Bluetooth Audio), remove them. Such programs may conflict with factory settings. Also prepare a backup connection method - for example, wired headphones or speakers, so you do not remain without sound during the setup.

If the headphones don't respond to touch, try clearing the contacts on the case and in the case with a dry cotton swab. Dust or oxidation can block the sensors.
Method 1: Reset via a button on the case (official method)
This is Xiaomiβs most reliable and recommended reset method, and works on most Mi True Wireless Earbuds models, including the Basic 2, SE and Pro. The instruction is suitable even if the headphones are not switched on or synchronized with each other.
Algorithm of action:
- Put both headphones in the charging case and close the lid.
- Wait 10 seconds until the headphones start charging (the indicator on the case will light up).
- Press and hold the pairing button on the back of the case for 15-20 seconds until the indicator starts flashing red and white alternately.
- Release the button. The headphones automatically reboot and reset to the factory settings.
Once reset, Xiaomi headphones will be ready for the new connection. The indicator on the case should flash white - this means that the device is in pairing mode. If the indicator does not blink, repeat the procedure or check the charge of the case.

Method 2: Reset via Mi Earphones app (for stitched models)
If your Mi True Wireless Earbuds support the official Mi Earphones app (available for Android), you can try resetting via software, which is less reliable than the hardware, but sometimes helps to avoid completely zeroing settings.
Instructions:
- Install the Mi Earphones app from Google Play (no official app for iOS).
- Connect the headphones to the phone via Bluetooth.
- Open the app and wait until it determines the headphone model.
- Go to Settings β Reset (or Reset in English version).
- Confirm the action. The headphones will reset and all settings will reset.
Note that this method does not work on all models. For example, for Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2, the application may not display the reset option.

Method 3: Manual reset via a combination of touches (alternative method)
If the button on the case doesn't work or the headphones don't respond to it, you can try a software reset through sensors, which is suitable for models with gesture support (for example, Mi True Wireless Earbuds Pro).
Procedure:
- Get both earphones out of the case.
- Press and hold the touchpads on both headphones simultaneously for 10-12 seconds.
- Wait until the headphones start flashing red and then white.
- Let go of your fingers. The headphones will reset and reset.
This is less stable than case-reset, and may not work the first time. If the indicators don't blink, repeat the procedure or try another method. Also note that after manual reset, the headphones may need to be re-synchronized with each other (more on this in the next section).

If the tap reset didn't work, check if the sensors are blocked with dirt or moisture. Wipe your headphones with a dry napkin and try again.
What to do after resetting: setting up and synchronizing headphones
After a successful reset, Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earbuds will need to reconnect them to the device and possibly sync with each other.
First, sync your headphones with each other:
- Put both headphones in the case and close the lid for 10 seconds.
- Take them back. They have to automatically connect to each other (the indicators blink synchronously).
- If synchronization does not occur, press and hold the touchpad on the right earphone for 5 seconds until you hear the beep.
Then connect the headphones to the phone:
- π± On Android: Turn on Bluetooth, find Mi True Wireless Earbuds and tap for pairing.
- π On iPhone: Go to Settings β Bluetooth, select headphones and confirm the connection.
After connecting, check:
| Parameter | Normal condition | What to do if you don't. |
|---|---|---|
| Synchronization of headphones | Both earphones are connected, the sound is synchronous | Repeat synchronization via case |
| Charge level | The Bluetooth app or status displays charge | Charge your headphones to 100% and reconnect |
| Sound quality | No wheezing, both earphones make sound. | Check the codec settings in Bluetooth |
| Reaction to gestures | Touching is triggered (pause, next track) | Reset your gesture settings in the Mi Earphones app |

If the headphones connect only one at a time after reset, try resetting Bluetooth settings on your phone: Settings β System β Reset β Network Settings Reset (Android) or Settings β Main β Reset β Network Settings (iOS).
Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
When you reset Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earbuds, users often make mistakes that lead to new problems, and here are the most common ones and ways to prevent them:
Mistake 1: Interrupting the discharge process
If you release the button on the case or the sensors on the headphones ahead of time, the reset may not be correct. The minimum retention time is 15 seconds for the case and 10 seconds for the touch. If the indicators do not flash red / white, the procedure should be repeated.
Mistake 2: Low battery charge
Resetting at a charge level below 20% can damage the firmware. Always check the charge of the headphones and case before the procedure. If the indicator on the case is lit red, recharge the device for at least 10-15 minutes.
Error 3: Using unofficial firmware
If you have previously installed custom firmware, resetting to factory settings can return the headphones to a non-functioning state, in which case you will need to reflash the device through specialized utilities (for example, Xiaomi Flash Tool).
β οΈ Note: If the headphones stopped turning on or emitting cyclical beeps after reset, this may indicate damage to the bootloader. In this case, contact the Xiaomi service center - self-repair can aggravate the problem.
