Why You Should Reset Mi Band 4 and When to Do It
The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 fitness bracelet is one of the most popular wearables, but even it sometimes requires a complete reboot. Resetting to factory settings helps in situations where the gadget begins to work unstable: it does not sync with the Mi Fit application, incorrectly displays steps or pulse data, freezes when updating the firmware. Most often, users are faced with the need to reset after changing their smartphone when the bracelet βdoes not seeβ the new device, or when transferring the gadget to another person to delete the attached account.
It is important to understand the difference between a soft reboot (simple switch off/on) and a full reset. The first helps with temporary crashes, such as if the screen does not respond to touch; the second erases all user data, including alarm settings, notifications and activity history. Once reset, the bracelet returns to a "out of the box" state and it will have to be adjusted again.
Another common case is that the bracelet got stuck on the Mi logo after a failed firmware update, in which case resetting through standard methods may not work, and alternative methods will be required, which we will discuss below. Before you start, make sure that the problem is not solved by simply connecting to charge for 30 to 60 minutes - sometimes a dead battery simulates software failures.
Method 1: Reset via Mi Fit (official method)
The safest and most recommended way is to use the Mi Fit app (or Zepp Life for newer versions), which is suitable if the bracelet is connected to a smartphone and responds to commands.
- π± Open the Mi Fit app and go to the Profile section β Mi Smart Band 4.
- π§ Scroll down and select Disable Device (or Delete Device in New Versions).
- βοΈ Confirm the action β the bracelet will automatically reset and reboot.
- π After restart, connect the bracelet again through Add the device.
If there is no item Disable the device, try an alternative path: Profile β Settings β Reset settings. In some regional versions of the app, the menu may differ. Once reset, the bracelet will show on the screen. QR-re-binding.
β οΈ Warning: If the bracelet doesn't sync with the app for more than a day, first check the Mi Fit resolutions in your smartphone settings. on Android 10+ Auto Start and Background Permits Required.
Make sure the bracelet is at least 50% charged.

Method 2: Hardware reset through the button of the bracelet
If the bracelet doesn't respond to the app or its screen is frozen, you can do a hard reset directly on the device, without the need for a smartphone or a computer, just the Mi Band 4 itself.
- π Disconnect the bracelet from the charging cable (if it is connected).
- π± Press and hold the touch button under the screen for 10-15 seconds.
- π When the Mi logo appears on the screen, release the button and the reset process will begin.
- β After the reboot, the bracelet will show a welcome message in Chinese/English.
This is useful if the bracelet is not detected by the application after updating the firmware or if it gives an error "Disconnected". However, note: hardware reset does not always clear the firmware data. If the problem is caused by a "broken" version of the software, additional firmware reflashing through the Mi Band 4 Tools may be necessary (more on this below).

Method 3: Resetting through third-party utilities (for power users)
When standard methods fail, third-party tools like Mi Band 4 Tools (for Android) or Notify & Fitness come to the rescue, allowing you not only to reset your settings, but also to refashion your bracelet, change fonts or set custom dials.
- π² Download and install Mi Band 4 Tools (Android 5.0 required)+).
- π Connect the bracelet to the application via Bluetooth (allow all access requests).
- π§ Go to the Tools section β Factory Reset.
- β οΈ Confirm the action β the bracelet will reboot and return to factory settings.
The advantage of this method is the ability to choose partial reset (for example, only notification settings) or full (including firmware). However, be careful: incorrect actions can lead to a "brick" of the bracelet (completely inoperable).
- π Backup your data via Mi Fit (if the bracelet is still synced).
- π Charge the bracelet to 100% β interruption of the process can damage the firmware.
- π‘ Make sure there are no other Bluetooth enabled devices nearby (may interfere with your Bluetooth).
β οΈ Note: Apps like Mi Band 4 Tools require the right to use the app ADB Don't provide them unless you understand the risks! Unofficial firmware can take the bracelet out of warranty and cause synchronization problems.
Method 4: Reset via ADB (for advanced users)
If the bracelet does not respond to standard methods at all, and third-party utilities do not help, the last option is to reset via ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which requires a PC, a cable to connect the bracelet and basic command-line knowledge, which is only suitable for Mi Band 4 with firmware up to version 1.0.9.54 (in new versions Xiaomi has blocked this method).
Procedure:
- π» Install. ADB Tools on the computer.
- π Connect the bracelet to the PC through a special USB-TTL adapter (you will need a soldering iron to connect to the contacts on the bracelet board).
- π₯οΈ Open the command line and type: Adb devices Make sure the bracelet is defined by the system.
- π§ Reset command: Adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.FACTORY_RESET
This method is risky, because if you make a mistake, the bracelet can turn into a brick. We recommend using it only if:
- π οΈ You have experience working with ADB soldering iron.
- π¦ The bracelet is no longer warranty (opening the case will cancel it).
- π‘ All other methods have been tried and failed.
π‘
Before connecting to ADB, check the firmware version of the bracelet in Mi Fit. If it is newer than 1.0.9.54, this method will not work - Xiaomi has closed the vulnerability.
Method 5: Reset after a failed firmware update
One of the most frustrating situations is when the bracelet is stuck on the Mi logo or reboots endlessly after the update, this is due to interrupted firmware or incompatibility of the software version with your bracelet model (for example, if you tried to install firmware from Mi Band 5).
Algorithm of action:
- π₯ Download the official firmware for your bracelet version (check the model number on the box or in Mi Fit).
- π Unpack the archive with firmware in a folder with Mi Band 4 Tools.
- π§ In the app, select Firmware Update β Select File and specify the downloaded file.
- β οΈ Connect the bracelet to charging and start the upgrade process. Don't turn it off until it's complete!
If the bracelet is not even defined by the Mi Band 4 Tools, try:
- π Hold him on 12 charge.+ hours - sometimes it "revives" the device.
- π‘ Use another smartphone to connect (possibly a problem in your phoneβs Bluetooth module).
- π¦ Contact the Xiaomi service center β if the warranty is still valid, the reset will be performed for free.

What to do after resetting: setting up the bracelet from scratch
Once the bracelet is successfully reset, it will return to the factory settings, and it will have to be reconfigured.
- π± Install/update the Mi Fit or Zepp Life app on your smartphone.
- π Turn on Bluetooth and allow the application to access geodata (required for correct operation!).
- π In Mi Fit, click Add Device β Mi Smart Band 4 and scan the entire system QR-bracelet.
- βοΈ Set up the basic parameters: π Time zone and time format (12/24 hour). π Notifications (select applications from which notifications will be duplicated on the bracelet). πββοΈ Activity goals (steps, calories, sleep). π Alerts about low battery charge.
π Synchronize data β it can take up to 5 minutes.
After the binding, we recommend:
- π² Update the bracelet firmware to the latest version (Mi Fit will have a notification if an update is available).
- π¨ Install a custom dial (for example, through Amazfit Watchfaces).
- π Set up screen lock (in Bracelet Settings) β Lockdown).
β οΈ Note: If the bracelet is not determined by the application after resetting, try: 1. Reboot the smartphone. 2. Remove the Mi Fit cache in the phone settings (Settings) β Annexes β Mi Fit β Memory. β Clear the cache. 3. Disable battery saving for Mi Fit (on Android this can block background sync).
π‘
Once reset, the bracelet can show old data (steps, pulse) -- this is the cache that will clear after the first synchronization. Don't worry, it's okay!
