How to properly check it out
This article will help you understand which tests are required and what you can ignore. We will look at the diagnosis from basic (external examination) to deep (sync check with the application), and also give advice on how to distinguish the original from a fake and what to do if the bracelet does not turn on, especially focusing on the typical βdiseasesβ of the Mi Band 2, which manifest after 3-5 years of use.
Before starting the check, make sure you have:
- π± Smartphone with Mi Fit installed (version at least 4.6.0) or Zepp Life (for new firmware).
- π Charger (original cable with USB-Type-A connector or universal charger for Mi Band).
- β± Stopwatch (you can use a timer on your phone) to test response time.
External inspection: signs of forgery and mechanical damage
Start with a visual check. The original Mi Band 2 has a matte plastic body with the Mi logo on the front and the words Designed by Xiaomi on the back. Counterfeiting often comes out with a glossy surface, crooked labels or no marking on the charging cable.
Pay attention to:
- π Scratches on screen: if they're deep, it could be about falls (OLED-Mi Band 2 is fragile β severe scratches sometimes lead to βbrokenβ pixels.
- π§ Traces of moisture under the glass or in the charging connector, even if the bracelet is positioned as waterproof (IP67), Long-term exposure to water can damage contacts.
- π The state of the strap: the original Xiaomi straps are made of thermoplastic elastomer (TPU) They don't have to crumble or stretch, and they're often made from cheap silicone, which cracks after a year.
β οΈ Warning: If there are dents near the button on the body, this may indicate damage to the piezoelectric vibratory motor - one of the frequent malfunctions of the Mi Band 2. Check the vibration later (Section 4).
Also check the charging cable: the original one has a clear MDY-05-EM marking and magnetic contacts that are tightly attracted to the bracelet. In fakes, the magnets are weak, and the plug often hangs.
2. Checking charging and battery: how to evaluate the real capacity
Battery is the most vulnerable place Mi Band 2. the declared capacity of the original battery is 70 mAh, but after 3-4 years it can decrease to 30-40 mAh.
- Connect the bracelet to charging and wait for full charge (the indicator on the screen should show 100%).
- Disconnect from the network and record the time of operation in active mode (with a backlight of the screen every 5 minutes).
- Compare with normal: Battery status Running time (hours) New battery 18β20 Satisfactory 12β15 Critical (requires replacement) less than 8
β οΈ Warning: If the bracelet discharges in 2-3 hours, even in standby mode, this is a sign of battery bloating.
Check the charging speed:
- π The original Mi Band 2 charges from 0 to 100% in 1.5 to 2 hours. If the process takes more than 3 hours, the problem is the cable or power controller.
- π When charging, the screen should flash the battery icon. If the indication is missing, check the contacts for contamination (clean with alcohol).
π‘
If the bracelet does not turn on after charging, try holding the button pressed for 10-15 seconds - this will reset the device to factory settings (if the problem is not in the hardware).
Screen and sensor testing: how to detect dead zones
OLED-The Mi Band 2 display may lose brightness or acquire broken pixels over time:
- Activate the screen by pressing a button.
- Scroll through all menus (Steps) β Pulse. β Notifications, drawing attention to: π₯ Lighting smoothness: are there no dark spots or stripes. π¨ Color rendering: all symbols should be clear, without blurring. β Sensor Sensitivity: The screen must respond to touch (not press!) at any point.
Critical defect: If the screen does not respond to touches in the bottom or top, it is a sign of detachment of the plume. Repair is possible, but often costs more than a new bracelet.
For deep sensor diagnostics:
- Go to Settings β About the phone (on the bracelet).
- Stick on the screen in different places - the vibration should be triggered.
- If the response is only in the center, the sensor needs to be replaced.
β οΈ Warning: If the sensor is 0 or 220 beats/min, it's a calibration error. Try rebooting the bracelet or updating the firmware through Mi Fit.
Stepper:
- Reset the step counter in the app.
- Walk exactly 50 steps with your phone in your hand (for control).
- Compare the data in Mi Fit. The margin of error is Β±3 steps.
Vibration engine:
- π³ Send a notification from your phone to your bracelet (e.g. SMS).
- The vibration should be clear, but not too loud, and the weak vibrations indicate a malfunction of the motor or controller.
What to do if the pulse sensor is not working?
5.Sync with the application: checking the Bluetooth connection
Without a stable connection to Mi Fit or Zepp Life, the bracelet loses most of its functions.
- Make sure your phone is enabled with Bluetooth 4.0+ and geolocation permission (required for Mi Fit).
- Run the app and wait for the automatic connection: π Reboot both devices. π± Remove the bracelet from the list of conjugate devices in the phone settings and add again. π§ In Mi Fit, select Add Device β Mi Band 2.
- π Steps, pulse and sleep should be updated in the app in real time.
- β° If the data arrives with a delay of more than 5 minutes, the problem in the Bluetooth bracelet module.

- On Android: Settings β Applications β Mi Fit β Notifications β Allow.
- On iOS: Settings β Notifications β Mi Fit β Enable.

- π Box: the original comes in white packaging with a holographic sticker Xiaomi and a barcode, which can be checked on the website mi.com/verify.
- π¦ Package: the box must have a bracelet, charging cable and instructions in Chinese/English.
- π Firmware: the original bracelet has a software version not lower than 1.0.1.14 (checked in Settings) β Clones often work on outdated or custom firmware.
The most reliable way to check is to communicate with the official application:
- π± Counterfeiting can connect to Mi Fit but donβt sync data or show an error: Device not supported".
- π§ The original bracelet has a "Firmware Update" setting.
If you buy a used bracelet, ask the seller:
- Reset the device to factory settings (hold the 10 seconds button).
- Untie him from his Mi Fit account.

7.Typical malfunctions and ways of their elimination
Even the original Mi Band 2 can break down over time, and here are the most common problems and solutions.
| Malfunction | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Not activated after charging | Battery discharged or power controller malfunctioned | Keep charging for 30+ minutes. If it doesn't work, it needs repairs. |
| Doesn't measure pulse. | Sensor contamination or failure PPG-sensor | Wash the sensor with alcohol. If it doesn't work, replace the sensor. |
| Does not vibrate at notifications | Vibration motor or plume damaged | Check the settings in Mi Fit. If the vibration is absent completely - repair |
| Not synchronized with the phone. | Outdated firmware or Bluetooth module failure | Update the bracelet and restart the phone |
| Fast discharge (less than 6 hours) | Battery wear or background processes | Reset the settings. If it didn't work, replace the battery. |
β οΈ Warning: If the bracelet overheats while charging or working, turn it off immediately! This is a sign of short circuit in the battery - further use is dangerous.
For most Mi Band 2 malfunctions, repair costs 50-70% of the cost of a new bracelet, so it is often more profitable to buy an updated model (for example, Mi Band 6 or Mi Band 7).
