Apple owners often face the need to integrate third-party accessories into a single ecosystem. Xiaomi fitness bracelets remain one of the most popular devices for tracking activity due to their excellent price-to-feature ratio. However, the process of their initial setup on iOS has its own characteristics that differ from pairing with Android smartphones.
The main difficulty is that the standard Bluetooth menu in the iPhone is not designed to directly link activity trackers. The user must use specialized software that acts as a bridge between the “hardware” of the bracelet and the iOS operating system. Without the correct installation of the application and the correct sequence of actions, data synchronization will not be possible.
In this article, we will discuss in detail the algorithm of actions necessary for successful connection of the device. You will learn which application to choose for your model, how to avoid typical errors when searching for a gadget and what to do if the iPhone persistently does not see the tracker.
Choosing the Right Application for Management
The first step is to install software that will control your gadget. For a long time, the main application for all the trackers of the brand was Mi Fit, but in 2021 the company rebranded and the application was called Zepp Life. For most classic models, such as the Mi Band 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, as well as early versions of the Smart Band, it is Zepp Life that is the main management tool.
However, the manufacturer’s ecosystem has grown, and some new or specific devices may require the Mi Fitness app (formerly known as Xiaomi Wear) that focuses on newer product lines and offers integration with Apple Health at a deeper level.
To download the software, open the App Store on your iPhone. Type the name of the application in the search box. Make sure that the developer is Anhui Huami Information Technology or Xiaomi to avoid installing fakes or third-party customers with limited functionality.
Once you install the app, take your time to open it. First, you need to prepare the smartphone itself for work with the peripherals. Unlike Android, which often requires the inclusion of geolocation for search, on iOS, the stability of Bluetooth connection and access rights play a key role.
Preparing iPhone for pairing
Before you start the process of finding a device, you need to make sure that the operating system is ready to work with external accessories. Often users try to connect immediately through the application, ignoring the system settings, which leads to errors. Make sure that the Bluetooth module is activated and functions correctly.
Check the operating system version. Modern applications from Xiaomi require iOS 13.0 or higher to work properly; if you have an older version, the application may not start or work properly; the system update also closes security vulnerabilities associated with health data transfer.
An important step is to clear the list of previously paired devices. If you have previously tried to connect the bracelet to this iPhone or it was tied to another phone, the old profile may conflict. Go to Bluetooth settings and, if there is a record of your tracker (such as Mi Band 5), click on the "i" icon and select "Forget this device."
It’s also worth checking your privacy settings, and the app will need access to Bluetooth, notifications, and preferably geolocation (at least in the background) to properly synchronize time and routes, and without these permissions, the functionality will be severely curtailed.
☑️ Preparing iPhone for connection
Step-by-step connection instruction
The pairing process is as follows: Run the installed application (Zepp Life or Mi Fitness). If you already have a Mi Account, sign in. If not, sign in, it's a requirement for cloud data and statistics.
After authorization, go to the Profile tab (usually the person icon in the corner of the screen). In the list of available options, find the Add Device or Add Device button. The app will prompt you to choose the type of device from the list: bracelet, scale, pulsemeter or smartwatch.
Select your model from the list. Then you start scanning the surrounding space. At that point, pick up the bracelet. If it's new, it should automatically go into pairing mode. If the bracelet has already been in use, you may need to activate the search mode in its menu or through reset.
When you see an image of a device you find on your iPhone with its ID (a set of numbers and letters), click on it to connect. You may see requests for confirmation of pairing on your bracelet screen and phone screen. Confirm action on both devices.
What to do if the device is not found?
Permissions setting and data synchronization
Once the connection is successful, iOS will request a number of permissions, a critical step that is often ignored, and the tracker needs to be fully operational, allowing notifications to be accessed so that the vibration works on calls and messages from messengers.
Special attention should be paid to integration with the app “Health” (Apple Health), which will allow you to combine the data of steps, heart rate and sleep into one single database. In the settings of the application, find the section “Add data” or “Appendix” and select Apple Health. Activate all switches so that the statistics are transmitted (there and back).
In the notification menu, you can customize in detail which apps will duplicate messages on your wrist, you can select only calls and SMS, or add WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber and email clients, which will help filter information noise.
Also in this section, you can adjust your wrist lift to turn on the screen and the time display format (12 or 24 hours) and remember to set the exact time and time zone, although this usually happens automatically when you sync with your phone.
💡
To save battery power, turn off the screen’s constant lighting (Always On Display) if it’s not critical and reduce the brightness to a comfortable minimum.
Update of device firmware
Once attached, the app can suggest updating the bracelet software. Firmware is the internal program that controls the gadget. Manufacturers regularly release updates that correct errors, improve sensor accuracy and add new dials.
The upgrade process can take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes, during which time the screen of the bracelet can go out and light up, and the execution percentages will vary in abruptly, and it is strongly recommended not to interrupt this process or go far from the phone.
If the bracelet battery is less than 20% dead, the app can block the upgrade option, so first put the tracker on charge. Update by air (OTA) is via Bluetooth, so the stability of the connection is more important than the speed of the Internet.
Once the new version is successfully installed, the device will restart. Check the version in the device profile to make sure the update is successful. Often, the step-counting algorithms change after the update, making the data more accurate.

Always update the bracelet firmware to the latest version immediately after purchase - this guarantees stability and fixes known connection bugs with iOS.
Solving problems and mistakes
Despite the simplicity of the procedure, users may encounter difficulties, and one of the most common problems is that the bracelet hangs in the connection status, but the data is not transmitted, in which case a complete disconnection of communication helps: removing the device from the application, turning off Bluetooth, rebooting the iPhone and retrying.
Another common situation is that the iPhone sees the bracelet but can't complete (conjugation). This often happens if the bracelet is remembered by another phone. You need to reset the bracelet to factory settings. On the tracker itself, on the menu, find Reset or Unbind, or press the touch button for 10-15 seconds.
⚠️ Note: If the bracelet was purchased by hand or brought from a region with another language (e.g. Chinese), a region error may occur when trying to link to an international account, in which case you may need to change the region in the application settings or flash the device.
Notification problems are often solved by forcing the app to close in the background. iOS aggressively saves charge by "freezing" background processes. Allow the app to background update content in the main iPhone settings: Settings → Basic → Content Update.
If the pulse or sleep sensor is not working properly, check the strap's density to the wrist. The optical sensor only works when it's in close contact with the skin. Also make sure that the sensor area on the back is clean and not contaminated with sweat or cream.
