Xiaomi wireless headphones are some of the most popular gadgets due to their combination of price, sound quality and autonomy. But even the most advanced models like Xiaomi AirDots Pro 3 or Buds 4 Pro will eventually die, and the signs of discharge are not always obvious. If your headphones suddenly stop working, donβt panic: they may just run out. In this article, we will analyze all the possible symptoms of a dead battery, including hidden signals that are not written in the instructions.
The problem is that different Xiaomi models have different charge indications: somewhere there are voice prompts, somewhere there are only LEDs, and in budget versions (for example, Redmi AirDots 2) there are almost no signals. We have collected universal methods of checking that work even for old or defective headphones, and we will also tell you how to distinguish discharge from breakdown, which will help save on unnecessary repairs.
Indicator on the body: what do flashing and colors mean
The first thing to look at is the LED light on the headphones or case, and most Xiaomi models have it on the front or side, and that's what its signals mean.
- π΄ Red constant light β charge less than 20%, requires a network connection. 3T Pro) red can flash at critical battery level (less than 5%).
- π Orange/yellow lights are 20% to 50% charged, and are rare, usually only in premium series.
- π’ Green light: the battery is charged at more than 50%. If the indicator doesn't burn at all, it can mean both a complete discharge and a malfunction.
- π Fast flashing white β headphones in pairing mode (not to be confused with discharge!) If the blinking is slow, it could be a low-charge signal.
In case models (such as Xiaomi FlipBuds Pro), the indicator on the case itself shows the battery charge of the case, not the headphones! To check the charge of the headphones themselves, they must be removed - then the indicator on each of them flashes the corresponding color.
β οΈ Warning: If the indicator does not respond to button pressing or charging, the problem may be oxidized contacts (especially after moisture is ingested.
| Model headphones | Color of indicator during discharge | Additional signals |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi AirDots (1-3 generation) | Red (flashing) | A sound signal when connected to the phone |
| Redmi AirDots 2/3 | Red (permanent) | Voice alert "Battery discharged" (in English) |
| Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro | Orange (blinks) | Vibration at a critical charge level |
| Xiaomi FlipBuds Pro | White (slow blinking) | The LED on the case goes out when the headphones are removed. |
2. Sound cues: What do squeaks and voice cues mean
Many Xiaomi models have low-charge audible alerts, which are easy to miss, especially if you're listening to music at high volume.
- π Short double squeak - charge less 20%. Repeats every time. 5-10 minute.
- π£οΈ Voice message "Battery low" - less than 10% of the charge is left, found in models with support for voice assistant (for example, Xiaomi AirDots Pro 2).
- π Long signal when you turn off - the headphones automatically turn off due to the discharge, often accompanied by a flashing of a red indicator.
- π΅ Interrupt playback β if the music suddenly stopped and the headphones went off, they most likely sat down.
In budget models (for example, Redmi AirDots), there may be no audio signals at all, in which case, focus on the behavior of the device: if the headphones start to switch off periodically or the sound becomes quieter, this is a sure sign of discharge.
Note that in some firmware, you can turn off the audible alerts in the settings. If you haven't done this but there are no signals, maybe the headphones need to flash or reset.
3. Behavior of headphones: how they behave before discharge
Even if there are no signs or sounds, the behavior of the headphones will tell you that the battery is running out.
- π§ Unintentional shutdown β headphones are turned off through 1-2 minutes after connection.
- π A sharp decrease in volume β the sound becomes quieter, even if the phone volume is at its maximum.
- π Frequent reconnections - headphones are then connected, then disconnected from the device.
- π Reduced work time β if earlier headphones held 5 hours, and now less than an hour, the battery has degraded.
Xiaomi headphones have a special feature: when one of the headphones (for example, the right one) is discharged, the second one can continue to work, but with distorted sound. This is due to the fact that each headphone has its own battery, and they discharge unevenly.
β οΈ Attention: If the headphones are turned off immediately after being removed from the case, the problem may be in the contacts of the case, not in the headphones themselves.

4.Verification via Mi Fit or Xiaomi Earbuds app
If your headphones are paired with official apps (Mi Fit, Xiaomi Earbuds or Mi Home), you can see the exact charge level right on your smartphone screen.
- Open the Mi Fit app (or Xiaomi Earbuds for new models).
- Go to the Devices section β [The name of your headphones].
- The main screen will display the percentage of charge of each headphone separately and the case.
- If the percentage is not displayed, update the headphone firmware through the same app.
Some models (such as the Xiaomi Buds 3 Pro) have a "Low Charge Notification" feature in the app. If it's enabled, you'll get a push message to your phone when the battery runs down to 10%.
| Annex | Supported models | What shows |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Fit | AirDots 1-2, Redmi AirDots | Charge headphones and case, working time |
| Xiaomi Earbuds | Buds 3/4 Pro, FlipBuds Pro | Charge percentage, battery temperature, Bluetooth status |
| Mi Home | Xiaomi AirDots Pro 2S | Charge, gesture settings, software updates |
If the app doesn't see headphones, try:
- Reinstall the app.
- Reset the headphones to factory settings (hold the button on the case for 15 seconds).
- Connect to the headphones via another device (such as a tablet).
5. How to distinguish discharge from breakdown: diagnosis
Sometimes the headphones don't turn on because of a dead battery, but because of software failures or hardware malfunctions.
- π Headphones do not respond to charging β if after 30 minutes on charging the indicator does not light up, the problem is in the battery or power controller.
- π The headphones are on, but they're not -- maybe Bluetooth settings are lost. Try resetting them through Settings. β Bluetooth β Forget the device.
- π΅ The sound is there, but distorted - it can be both discharge and damage to the speaker (for example, after a fall).
- π₯ Headphones warm up β if the case is hot, it is a sign of a battery failure (dangerous!).
To determine the cause, do a test:
- Put the headphones in the case and connect the case to charging for 1 hour.
- After an hour, check the indicator on the case - if it burns green, but the headphones do not turn on, the problem is in the contacts between the case and the headphones.
- If the indicator on the case does not burn at all, the case battery is defective.

6 Hidden signs of discharge: what is not written in the instructions
There are a few non-obvious symptoms that suggest that the headphones are about to discharge:
- ποΈ Automatic volume reduction β some models (e.g. Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro) at low charge force volume down to extend the running time.
- π Turning off the microphone β if the person stops hearing you while calling, but the music is playing, this can be a sign of energy savings.
- π Switching to mono mode β if one earphone is turned off and the second continues to work, the battery is almost dead.
- π Increased sound latency β when the discharge is below 10%, lag (latency) between video and sound may appear.
In premium models (such as the Xiaomi FlipBuds Pro), there is a function called "Extreme Saving Mode", which is activated at 5% charge, in this mode all additional functions (noise cancellation, gestures) are turned off, and the sound becomes monophonic.
π‘
If the headphones start to run out quickly, try calibrating the battery: completely discharge them, and then charge them to 100% without interruptions. Repeat the procedure 2-3 times.
7 What to do if the headphones are discharged at the most inopportune moment
If the headphones are sat down, and you can not charge them right now, use these tips:
- π Quick charging - connect the case to the power source on 5-10 That's enough for me. 30-60 Minutes of operation (in models with support for fast charging, for example, Xiaomi Buds) 4 Pro).
- π± Use one headphone β if the battery is not completely dead, only one headphone can be used (usually the left one discharges more slowly).
- π Turn off noise cancellation β this reduces battery consumption 20-30%. Turn on the transparency mode or turn off ANC via.
- π΅ Turn down the volume β listen to music. 60-70% volume, this will extend the working time 15-20 minute.
If the headphones are completely discharged and do not respond to charging:
- Try another cable and power supply (preferably original).
- Leave the case on charging for 10-15 minutes, and then try to remove the headphones.
- If the indicator does not burn, try to "wake up" the case by pressing the reset button (usually it is hidden under the cover).
π‘
If the headphones donβt turn on after a full discharge, donβt panic: sometimes it takes 5-10 minutes to charge for the battery controller to βwake up.β
