And owners of third-party firmware devices (such as Amazfit) face additional limitations, and we tested all methods on the latest software (2026) and collected step-by-step instructions illustrating key points.
If you've just unpacked the wristband and you see characters or characters on the screen, don't panic. 90 percent of the time, the problem is solved in 5 minutes through the official app, but what if the app doesn't see the device or offers the wrong language?
Preparation: What to do before changing the language
Before you start setting up, make sure that the basic conditions are met, and without them, changing the language can result in an error or resetting the bracelet to the factory settings.
First, check out the Mi Band 5 firmware version. Outdated versions (below 1.0.6.14) may not support multitasking languages. You can update the software through the same Mi Fit or Zepp Life app (depending on the region). If the update is hanging, try rebooting the bracelet by holding the touch button for 10 seconds.
Second, look at the region of your Xiaomi account, if it is tied to China, some languages (like Russian) may not be available, so the solution is to change the region in your profile settings or create a new account with the correct locale.

It is also worth considering that after changing the language, some functions (such as notifications in Cyrillic) may not work correctly, due to the limitations of the fonts in the firmware, in which case manual firmware through Mi Band Master will help, but this method is only suitable for advanced users.
Method 1: Change the language through the Mi Fit app (official method)
This is the most reliable and recommended way that works for most users: the Mi Fit app automatically synchronizes the language of the bracelet with the language of the smartphone, but only if you have correctly configured the region of the account.
Step instructions:
- Open the Mi Fit app and go to Profile β Mi Smart Band 5.
- Slip the bracelet icon at the top of the screen.
- Select Device Settings β Language (or Device settings β Language in English).
- In the list of available languages, find the desired one (for example, Russian or Ukrainian) and confirm the choice.
- Wait for the synchronization β the bracelet will reboot, and the language will change.
If your language is not on the list, it means that:
- π± The region of the account does not support this language (for example, for Russian you need a locale "Russia" or "Ukraine").
- π Bracelet firmware is outdated - update it through Settings β Update of the PO.
- π« The bracelet is tied to another account with a different region (the solution is to untie the device and re-tire it).

Method 2: Use the Zepp Life app (for new firmware)
Since 2023, Xiaomi has gradually replaced Mi Fit with Zepp Life, a universal app for all fitness devices of the brand. the interface is different, but the functionality of the language change is preserved. The main difference is that in Zepp Life the language of the bracelet is tied to the language of the application itself, not the smartphone.
How to change language through Zepp Life:
- Download and install Zepp Life from Google Play or the App Store.
- Sign in with the same account as you do with Mi Fit (or create a new one with the right region).
- Connect Mi Band 5 via Add Device β Band 5.
- Go to Profile β Mi Band 5 β Settings β Language.
- Select the language you want and wait for the synchronization.
An important caveat: if you've used Mi Fit before, linking the bracelet to Zepp Life will automatically break the connection with the first application, and your steps and workouts will be stored in the cloud, but some settings (such as alarm clocks) will have to be reconfigured.
What if Zepp Life doesnβt see the bracelet?
Note: Third-party firmware may contain errors or malicious code. Use only files from trusted sources (such as high-rated 4PDA themes). Once firmware is in place, some features (such as NFC or pulsemeter) may not work smoothly.
If the bracelet does not turn on after firmware, try to restore the factory firmware through Mi Fit:
- Connect the bracelet to the charger.
- Hold the touch button for 20 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
- In Mi Fit, select Update the firmware β the application will offer to restore the original version.

If your region does not support the desired language, change your account locale via the web version of Xiaomi Account:

- Save the changes and restart the Mi Fit or Zepp Life app.
Frequent problems and their solutions
Even after successful language change, users are confronted with bugs, and here are the most common ones and ways to fix them:

Tips for optimizing the bracelet after changing the language
To ensure that Mi Band 5 works consistently after a language change, follow these guidelines:
