Why canβt you change the language on the Mi Watch Lite?
The Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite is a popular model among budget fitness trackers, but many users face a problem: the interface is displayed in Chinese or English, and the Russian language is not in the settings. The reason lies in the regional firmware: the manufacturer often supplies devices with localization for the Asian market, where Russian is not provided by default.
The second common situation is that watches are purchased by hand or on foreign platforms (such as AliExpress or Gearbest), where sellers do not always specify the firmware version, even if there is a Language item on the menu, the desired language may not be available, and the problem can be solved in three ways: through the Mi Fitness app, a hidden watch menu, or a full reset with subsequent binding to an account in another region.
It is important to understand that not all methods are universal. For example, on firmware older than 1.2.5.14, the list of languages may be limited, and on new versions (for example, 1.4.8.21), Russian is already enabled by default. Before you act, check the current version of the software in the settings of the clock (Settings β About β Version).
Method 1: Change the language using the Mi Fitness app
The official method that works on most devices is that youβll need a smartphone with Mi Fitness (formerly Mi Fit) installed and a stable Bluetooth connection to your phone.
Algorithm of action:
- π± Open the Mi Fitness app on your smartphone and make sure that the Mi Watch Lite watch is connected (the top menu should show their status).
- βοΈ Go to the Profile section β My devices. β Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite.
- π Find the Device Settings item β Language (or Device Settings) β Language).
- π·πΊ Choose Russian from the list. If you don't have it, update the app or the watch firmware.
If there is no Russian on the list of languages, but there are other European languages (e.g. German or Spanish), this means that the watch firmware is intended for the global market, but Russian is not included.

Before changing the language, make sure your smartphone is enabled with mobile internet or Wi-Fi. The Mi Fitness app can download additional language packs in the background.
Method 2: Hidden language settings menu (for firmware without Russian)
On some versions of the Mi Watch Lite firmware (especially Asian ones), the list of languages is hidden in the engineering menu, which requires precise action, since the interface will be in Chinese or English.
Step-by-step:
- On the clock, go to the main menu, swiping up from the main screen.
- Find the Settings icon and tap it.
- Scroll down to System (or Chinese) and select it.
- Find the About () β Version ()
- Slip the version number 5 times in a row, it will open a hidden menu.
- In the list that appears, find the Language item and select Russian (if any).
If the language has not changed after these actions, then the firmware does not have Russian localization, in which case only reflashing or resetting settings with reference to another region (method 3) will help.

Method 3: Resetting and binding to another region
A radical but effective method is to reset your watch completely and then connect to a Xiaomi account in another region, which will force the system to load global firmware with the right languages.
Instructions:
- β οΈ First, untie the watch from your current account in the Mi Fitness app (Profile) β My devices. β Remove the device).
- π On the clock, reset: Settings β System β Reset (or) β ).
- π± Create a new Xiaomi account with the region Russia, Europe or Singapore (via the website) VPN, if required).
- π Connect the watch to a new account. After synchronization, check the list of languages, Russian should appear.
This works 90 percent of the time, but it has a drawback: all the data (steps, sleep, exercise) will be lost. If you care about statistics, export it to Google Fit or another service.
What if the tongue has not changed after the reset?
Table: Compatibility of firmware and available languages
| Firmware version | Region | Available languages | Russian |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.2.5.14 and below | China (CN) | Chinese, English | β No. |
| 1.3.0.18β1.3.6.22 | Global (Global) | English, German, Spanish, French | β οΈ Only on certain devices |
| 1.4.8.21 and above | Global/Europa | 12+ languages, including Russian | β Yes. |
| 1.5.3.0 (special version) | Russia (RU) | Russian, English, Ukrainian | β Yes, by default) |
If your firmware version doesnβt match the table, update your watch through the Mi Fitness app. Go to Profile β My Devices β Software Update. Update can take up to 30 minutes β donβt interrupt the process!
Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
When changing languages, users often face typical problems, and here are the most common ways to solve them:
β οΈ Note: If the clock displays characters or Krakozabras after choosing Russian, this means that the font does not support Cyrillic.
- π The watch will freeze after reset. Wait 5-10 minutes, the device can reboot for a long time. If the screen does not respond for more than 15 minutes, connect the watch to charge and reset again.
- π΅ The language changed, but part of the menu remained in English. This is normal for hybrid firmware.
- π After the update, the watch is dead. The first switch on after the update consumes a lot of power. Charge the device to 100% before any manipulation.
On firmware older than 2021 (versions below 1.3.0.18), Russian localization may not be available even after reset, in which case the only way out is to flash it through a PC using the Mi Flash Tool utility, but this voids the warranty.

Additional settings after changing the language
After a successful language change, it is recommended to configure the following parameters for the correct operation of the clock:
- β° Time format: Go to Settings β Display β Time Format and select 24-hour (if necessary).
- π‘ Notifications: In the Mi Fitness app, check permissions to display messages (Notifications) β Application settings).
- π Units of measurement: In training settings (Workout) β Units) set the metric system (kilometers, kilograms).
If notifications stop coming after changing the language, untie the watch from your account and reconnect it. Also check if the energy-saving mode on your smartphone blocks them (on Xiaomi/Redmi this is Settings β Battery β Application Selection).

After changing the language, be sure to update the watch firmware to the latest version β this will correct possible font display errors and add missing translations.
