The Xiaomi Mi Band 2 fitness bracelet remains a popular gadget even years after its release, thanks to its simplicity, reliability and minimalist design. However, many users face a problem: the time on the wristband screen does not match the real one or βlags behindβ by several hours. Unlike modern models (Mi Band 7 or Smart Band 8), the second version does not automatically update the time every time you connect to a smartphone, which creates confusion with notifications, alarms and sleep statistics.
In this article, you will find three proven ways to change the time on the Mi Band 2 β from manually adjusting through the application to resetting the device to factory settings. We will also analyze common errors (for example, why time is reset after disconnecting from the phone) and give recommendations for stable synchronization. If your bracelet has been showing the wrong time for several days, do not rush to buy a new one: 90% of the time the problem is solved in 5 minutes.
Why is Mi Band 2 the wrong time?
Before you change your settings, it is important to understand the cause of the failure. Unlike the Mi Band 3 and newer models, the second version only synchronizes time when you first connect to the phone or after a reset.
- π± If Mi Fit (or Zepp Life) hasnβt been opened for more than a day, the bracelet continues to count down from the last synchronization, which leads to discrepancies.
- π At a charge level below 10%, the bracelet can reset settings, including time, especially after full discharge.
- π If you're traveling or manually changing your phone's belt, the Mi Band 2 doesn't automatically update your data.
- π Firmware failure. Rarely, but there are firmware errors that cause the bracelet to "forget" the current time.
Another feature of the Mi Band 2 is that it doesnβt automatically sync when you turn on Bluetooth (unlike the Mi Band 4 and later), which means that even if your phone and bracelet are connected, the time is only updated when you open the Mi Fit app or after you reboot the gadget.
Method 1: Synchronize time through the Mi Fit app
The simplest and most recommended method is forced synchronization via the official app, which works if the bracelet is connected to the phone, but the time is still incorrect.
- Open the Mi Fit app (or Zepp Life if you use it).
- Make sure the bracelet is connected: a green communication indicator should be on at the top of the screen.
- Pull the screen down to update the data (swipe down gesture).
- If time has not changed, go to Profile β Mi Band 2 β Additional settings β Sync time.
In some versions of the app, the synchronize time item may not be available.
βοΈ What to do if there is no synchronization button
0
- β Reconnect the bracelet: go to the profile β Mi Band 2 β Disconnect the device, then reconnect.
- β Update the Mi Fit app to the latest version in Google Play or App Store.
- β Reboot your smartphone and bracelet (on Mi Band 2, press the touch button for 10 seconds).
Important: if the time is lost again after a few hours after synchronization, the problem may be in the firmware of the bracelet or a failure in the memory of the device, in which case the reset to factory settings (see Method 3) will help.

If you have Android, turn on Developer Mode in your phone settings before syncing, and activate the Bluetooth Debugging option, which will help stabilize the connection.
Method 2: Manually adjusting time through utilities (for advanced)
If standard synchronization doesnβt work, you can manually change the time using third-party utilities, a method that is suitable for users who donβt have a bracelet connected to the official app or show badly incorrect data (for example, 1970).
This will require:
- π± Smartphone on Android (on iOS the method does not work).
- π Mi Band Tools or Notify & Fitness (available on Google Play).
- π On-line mode for developers on the phone.
The following is a guide for Notify & Fitness:
- Download and install the application, provide all the necessary permissions.
- Connect the bracelet via Notify & Fitness (select Mi Band 2 from the menu).
- Go to Device Settings β Time and Date.
- Turn off the autosynchronization option and enter the current data manually.
- Save the changes and reset the bracelet.
| Utility. | Support for Mi Band 2 | Manual timing | Root is required. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Band Tools | β Yes. | β Yes. | β No. |
| Notify & Fitness | β Yes. | β Yes. | β No. |
| Mi Band Master | β No, only Mi Band 3.+) | β No. | β No. |
| Amazfit Tools | β οΈ Partially. | β Yes. | β Yes, for some functions) |
Warning: Using third-party utilities may result in loss of warranty or firmware failure. Before changing settings, back up your bracelet data via Mi Fit.
What to do if the utilities do not see the bracelet?
If Mi Band Tools or Notify & Fitness do not detect the device:
- Turn off the bracelet from Mi Fit (in the application settings).
- Delete the cache and Mi Fit data in your phone settings (Settings β Applications β Mi Fit β Memory).
- Reboot your phone and bracelet.
- Try to connect again through a third-party utility.
If the problem persists, it is possible that your bracelet has custom firmware (for example, custom from Amazfit).
Method 3: Resetting the bracelet to factory settings
If neither synchronization nor manual adjustment works, it will leave a complete reset, which will return the bracelet to its original parameters, including the correct time, but will remove all the statistics (steps, sleep, alarm clocks).
How to Reset Mi Band 2:
- Open the Mi Fit app and turn off the bracelet (Profile β Mi Band 2 β Disable the device).
- On the bracelet itself, press and hold the touch button for 10-15 seconds until you feel the vibration and see a flashing indicator.
- Release the button and the bracelet will reset.
- Connect it again via Mi Fit, following the instructions on the screen.
After reset, the time is automatically synchronized with the phone, and if the problem happens again, it may indicate a hardware malfunction (for example, a failure of the quartz resonator, which is responsible for counting time).
β οΈ Warning: Do not confuse reset with firmware updates. Flashing the Mi Band 2 through informal tools (such as Gadgetbridge) can lead to a complete loss of bracelet functionality.
Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Even after a successful setup, the time on Mi Band 2 can be lost.
- π Frequent Bluetooth shutdown. If you regularly turn off Bluetooth on your phone, the bracelet loses communication and continues counting time on its own. Solution: add Mi Fit to the battery optimization exceptions list (in Android settings).
- β³ Ignoring updates. Although Mi Band 2 has not received new firmware for a long time, Mi Fit periodically releases patches for communication stability.
- π The phone has the wrong time zone. The bracelet takes the time of the smartphone, so if the phone has the wrong belt, the sync will be wrong. β System system β Date and time.
- π Deep discharge. If the bracelet is zero, its internal clock may reset. Charge the device at a charge level below 20%.
Preventive tip: Open the Mi Fit once a week and pull the screen down for forced synchronization, which will take 10 seconds, but will save you time problems.
π‘
If the bracelet shows time with a delay of 1-2 hours, check the settings of automatic switching to summer/winter time in the smartphone.
Hardware problems: when it is time to bring to the service
If all software methods have been tried, but the time on the Mi Band 2 is still confused or shows obvious nonsense (for example, 31.12.1969), the problem may be hardware.
- β‘ Time is reset after each reboot (even if the battery is charged).
- π The bracelet βhangsβ at one time (for example, shows 12:00 regardless of real time).
- π Synchronization through Mi Fit is successful, but after an hour, again incorrect.
- π¨ Artifacts appear on the screen (flickering, lack of time display).
In such cases, one of the components is to blame:
| Malfunction | Reason. | Can I fix it? |
|---|---|---|
| Failure of the quartz resonator | He is responsible for counting down time, and over time he gets tired. | β Yes (resonator replacement) |
| Oxidation of battery contacts | Leads to power failures and resetting settings | β Yes (cleaning or replacing the battery) |
| Damage to the memory chip | The bracelet "forgets" settings after turning off | β No (requires a replacement fee) |
| Screen plume detachment | Time is displayed incorrectly or fragmentally | β Yeah (ploughing plume) |
The cost of repairing the Mi Band 2 in service centers usually does not exceed 1,000-1 500 rubles (2026), however, given the age of the model, it is often more advisable to buy a new bracelet (for example, the Mi Band 8 costs about 2,500 rubles).
β οΈ Note: if you decide to repair the bracelet yourself, remember: Xiaomi uses high-strength adhesive for cases. When opening without special tools, there is a high risk of damaging the board or screen.
