First introduction to Xiaomi AirDots 2: Whatβs in the box and how to get started
Xiaomi AirDots 2 (or Mi True Wireless Earbuds 2) has been a hit with a combination of price and quality. But even this popular gadget has nuances that arenβt always obvious at first glance, and this guide will help you understand everything from basic connectivity to hidden features.
As standard, youβll find the headphones themselves, a charging case, a USB Type-C cable for charging, three pairs of interchangeable earpieces (sizes S/M/L) and a brief guide in several languages. Note that some regions sell versions with modified firmware, which can affect the available features.
Before first use, be sure to check the case charge: the indicator on the front panel should flash white when connecting to charging. If the indicator is red, the case is discharged and requires a minimum of 30 minutes of charging before starting work.
Connecting Xiaomi AirDots 2 to the phone: step-by-step instructions
It takes less than a minute to pair with Android or iOS, but there are important details.
- Remove both headphones from the case - they will automatically turn on and go into pairing mode (indicators will flash red and white alternately).
- On your phone, activate Bluetooth and find Mi True Wireless Earbuds 2.
- Confirm the connection. Once you pair successfully, the headphones will go out.
If the headphones are not determined, try resetting (more about this in the section about resetting). On Xiaomi or Redmi smartphones, after connecting, a notification will appear about the possibility of installing the Mi Earphones branded application - it gives access to additional settings, for example, choosing pre-installed equalizers.
Gesture Management: What Touch Means
AirDots 2 supports touch control, but its logic may seem unintuitive.
- π΅ Double touch on any earpiece: playback / pause, acceptance / completion of the call.
- π Triple touch on the right earpiece: moving to the next track.
- π Triple touch on the left earpiece: a return to the previous track.
- π Hold 2 seconds on any headphone: Deflection of incoming call.
Important: gestures only work when playing music or when you're ringing; when you're at rest, you ignore touches, to save battery life; if the gestures don't work, check if the touchpads are closed with masks (especially for the L-size).
π‘
To avoid accidentally missing the track, turn off triple tap in the Bluetooth settings on your phone (if such an option is available).
Microphone and calls: how to improve communication quality
AirDots 2 uses cVc 8.0 to cancel the noise during calls, but its effectiveness depends on the right position of the headphones.
- Make sure that the microphone holes (small holes on the body) are not covered by fingers or hair.
- Keep your head straight during the conversation β microphones are tuned to capture your voice from the front.
- In noisy places, use only one headphone (for example, the right one) β this reduces background noise.
If someone complains of echoes or intermittent sound, try reconnecting the headphones or resetting them, and the problem may be related to incompatibility of Bluetooth codecs on some smartphones (especially on older Samsung models).
Make sure the headphones are tightly seated in your ears |
Check the charge level (below 20% communication quality is deteriorating)|

Charging and battery: how to extend the life of headphones
The battery capacity in the headphones is 40 mAh each, in the case β 300 mAh. The manufacturer claims up to 4 hours of battery life and up to 12 hours of case charging. The real numbers depend on the volume and activity of the microphone.
| Conditions of use | Working hours (hours) |
|---|---|
| Loudness 50%, no calls | 4β4.5 |
| 100% volume, active calls | 2.5β3 |
| One earpiece in mono mode | 5 |
| With the case (full cycle) | 10β12 |
To extend the battery life, avoid full case discharge (connect to charging at 10-15% charge) and do not leave the headphones in the case connected to the outlet for longer than 2 hours. It is also not recommended to use wireless charging stations - AirDots 2 do not support Qi charging, despite a popular misconception.
What to do if the headphones are not charged?
Resetting to factory settings and problem solving
If the headphones started to work malfunctioning (not synchronized, not connected, one earphone is silent), a complete reset will help.
- Put both headphones in the case and close the lid.
- Press and hold the button on the case for 15 seconds - the indicator first flashes red, then white.
- Open the lid - the headphones will automatically go into pairing mode.
After the reset, you'll have to reconnect the headphones to the phone.
- π Battery status (earphone with discharged battery may not be switched on).
- π± Phone compatibility (some devices require a Bluetooth stack update).
- π§ Physical damage (infection of moisture, falls).
π‘
Resetting does not help if a problem is in the hardware (for example, a speaker or microphone fell off), in which case repair or replacement is required.
Hidden functions and life hacks
Few people know, but AirDots 2 supports a few undocumented features:
- π§ Low Lag Mode: To reduce lag in games, turn off the microphone in Bluetooth settings (this reduces latency from 200 ms to 120-150 ms).
- π Mono mode: you can use only one headphone (for example, the right one), and leave the second one in the case.
- π± Voice assistants: Double tapping any earphone while playing music will activate Google Assistant (on Android) or Siri (on iPhone).
Another useful trick is that if you put your headphones in a case and open the lid next to your smartphone, they automatically connect to the last device (provided that Bluetooth is on), which works even if the case is not connected to the charger.

To quickly find a lost earpiece, use the "Device Search" feature in the Mi Earphones app (available only on Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco).
