Xiaomi smart scales have long ceased to be exotic — they have become an integral part of the health ecosystem for millions of users. However, iPhone owners often face difficulties in the first synchronization: the application does not see the device, data is not stored in Apple Health, or the scales suddenly turn off after an iOS update. This article will not just repeat the standard steps from the official instructions, but will reveal the hidden nuances that the manufacturer does not say.
We tested the connection on the iPhone 15 Pro Max (iOS 17.4), iPhone 12 (iOS 16.7) and iPhone SE 2022 (iOS 17.3) with three popular scale models: Mi Smart Scale 2, Xiaomi Body Composition Scale 2 and Xiaomi Smart Scale 2 (2023), paying special attention to the problems that arise exclusively on iOS – they are not on Android, and they are almost not written about in the Russian segment. If you have already tried to connect and received the error “failed to find the device” or “Synchronization failed”, here you will find unique solutions that are not supported by Xiaomi.
1.What scales Xiaomi is compatible with the iPhone?
Not all Xiaomi smart scales work equally well with iPhones. The main problem lies in the data protocols: older models use Bluetooth 4.0, which can conflict with the energy-saving iOS algorithms. Here is the current list of supported devices (as of May 2026):
- 🔹 Mi Smart Scale 2 is the most popular model, but requires a firmware update through an Android device before first connecting to an iPhone.
- 🔹 Xiaomi Body Composition Scale 2 – supports analysis of body composition (muscle mass, water, bone tissue), but on iOS, some metrics can be displayed incorrectly without manual calibration.
- 🔹 Xiaomi Smart Scale 2 (2023) – New version with improved Bluetooth 5.0, minimal connectivity issues, but may not synchronize weighing history over 3 months.
- 🔹 Mi Body Composition Scale (first generation) – not officially supported by iOS 16+, but works through workarounds (see section 5).
Important: Xiaomi Mi Scale (first generation, 2015-2017) and Viomi Smart Scale are not compatible with the iPhone at the protocol level, and can only be connected via an Android smartphone or emulator.
2. Prepare the iPhone before connecting
Before you pull the scales out of the box, make sure your iPhone is ready to sync, and skipping these steps is the main cause of errors like “Device is not responding” or “Too weak Bluetooth signal.”
Update iOS to the latest version (minimum iOS 15.4)
Remove old versions of Mi Fit or Zepp Life apps
Turn Bluetooth on in Settings → Bluetooth (not through the control panel!)
Turn off the "charge saving" mode in Settings → Battery
Reboot your iPhone (required after the iOS update)
Allow the app to access Apple Health in Settings → Confidentiality → Health-->
Pay special attention to permissions for the application:
- Go to Settings → Privacy → Bluetooth and make sure that Mi Fit/Zepp Life has access.
- Settings → Privacy → Location Select the “When Used” mode for the application (without this, the scales will not be able to determine your region for the correct display of units of measurement).
- In Settings → Privacy → Health, turn on all switches to synchronize data.
⚠️ Note: If you used scales on Android before and are now switching to iPhone, be sure to delete the device from your old Mi Account via the web version of account.xiaomi.com. Otherwise, the new data will conflict with the old entries.
3. Step-by-step instruction: connection via Mi Fit
The Mi Fit app is the official sync tool, but its interface on iOS is different from the Android version.
- Installation of the app: Download Mi Fit from the App Store. Don't use third-party APKs or modified versions - they won't pass the certificate check on iOS.
- Sign in/sign in: Sign in via your Xiaomi, Google or Apple ID account. If you don’t have an account, sign up here.
- Adding device: Click Profile → Add Device → Libra. Select your model from the list. If you don't have one, select Other and type the name manually. Click Connect and wait for the search indicator to appear.
Activation of the scales:
- Stand on the scales with bare feet (socks or slippers can interfere with sensors).
- Wait until the “--” or flashing Bluetooth indicator appears on the scale screen.
- The Mi Fit app should show a “Device found” notification.
- Profile setting: Specify your height, age and gender, and these data are critical for correct calculation of body mass index (BMI) and percentage of fat.
If at the connection stage there is an error “I could not connect to the device”, follow the following steps:
- 🔄 Reset the scales: Remove the battery compartment cover, remove the batteries for 10 seconds, then insert back in.
- 📱 Restart the Mi Fit app and clear its cache in iPhone Settings → Mi Fit → Clear the cache.
- 🔌 Try connecting in another room – sometimes interference from other Bluetooth devices (earphones, speakers) interfere).
💡
If the scales do not respond to the connection, try using the developer mode in Mi Fit. To do this, 5 times click on the application version in the About section. After that, the Debugging Mode will appear in the settings - turn it on and reconnect.
4. Alternative way: Connecting via Zepp Life
From 2022, Xiaomi is gradually moving its devices to the Zepp Life platform (formerly Amazfit), which has a more modern interface and is better optimized for iOS.
- Remove Mi Fit if it is installed (both apps won’t work at the same time).
- Download Zepp Life from the App Store.
- Sign in with the same Xiaomi account you used before (or create a new one).
- Go to “Devices” → “Add” → “Libra”.
- Follow the instructions on the screen. In Zepp Life, the connection process is more automated, and the app will prompt you to update the firmware of the scales if necessary.
The advantages of Zepp Life over Mi Fit:
| Function | Mi Fit | Zepp Life |
|---|---|---|
| Synchronization with Apple Health | Manual setting | Automatic. |
| History of weighing | Limited to 3 months | Up to 2 years |
| Analysis of body composition | Basic | Expanded (muscles, water, bones) |
| Notifications of progress | Only in the premium version. | Free of charge. |
| Support for iOS 17 | Partial (notification bugs) | Complete. |
⚠️ Note: If you have previously used Mi Fit, data from it will not be transferred to Zepp Life automatically. To avoid losing your history, export it manually through Profile» → «Exporting data to Mi Fit before the transition.
5. Solving common mistakes
Even with the right connection, iPhone users face unique challenges, and here are the most common and obscure ways to address them:
Error "Device is not supported"
- 🔴 Libras connect but don't transfer data: Check if data transfer is enabled in the background for Mi Fit/Zepp Life in Settings → Mainstream → Update content. Turn it off. VPN or proxy – they can block the connection to Xiaomi servers. Make sure that new batteries are installed on the scales (even if the indicator shows charge, weak batteries can cause transmission failures).
- 🔴 Apple Health Data Duplicated or Not Updated: Open Apple Health, Go to Data Sources» → «Apps" and remove Mi" Fit/Zepp Life. Restart the app and allow Health again. If the problem persists, reset your Apple Health settings to Profile» → «Reset the data" (Warning: This will delete the entire story!).
- 🔴 Libras show the wrong weight or are dropped: Put the scales on a flat hard surface (not on a carpet or soft floor). Calibrate the scales once a month: stand on them, then take off your legs and wait for zero. If the weight floats» ±2 kg, check the sensors for dirt or moisture (wipe with an alcohol napkin).
💡
If none of these methods worked, try to reset the scales to factory settings. To do this, hold the on button (if any) or press the scales 3 times quickly and hold for 5 seconds. After reset, repeat the connection process from scratch.
6.Sync with Apple Health and other apps
One of the main reasons for buying smart scales is to automate health data collection, but syncing with Apple Health on an iPhone doesn't work as smoothly as it does on Android with Google Fit.
- Access permission: Open Apple Health. Go to Profile → Apps → Mi Fit/Zepp Life. Turn on all the switches: Weight, Growth, Fat Percentage, Body Mass Index.
- Set up export to Mi Fit/Zepp Life: In the app, go to Profile → Settings → Data Sync. Select Apple Health and enable sync. Set the refresh rate: Automatic or Every Day is recommended.
Data verification:
- Do a test weigh-in.
- Open Apple Health and check if the entry appears in the Weight section.
- If there is no data, restart both apps and re-weigh.
💡
If you use an Apple Watch, turn off the automatic weight recording from the watch in Apple Health to avoid data conflict, go to Data Sources → Apple Watch and turn off the Weight setting.
7. Optimization of the work of the scales on the iPhone
To ensure that the scales work stably and the data is synchronized without delay, follow these tips:
- 🔋 Batteries: Use only alkaline batteries. AA. Cheap salt batteries discharge unevenly, leading to Bluetooth crashes.
- 📶 Location of scales: Keep them no more than 3 metres away from the iPhone.Walls and furniture made of metal or concrete can shield the signal.
- 🔄 Updates: Check the firmware updates of the scales in the app regularly. iPhone updates may not be installed automatically.
- 👤 Multiplayer mode: If the scales are used by several people, set up separate profiles in Mi Fit/Zepp Life. On iPhone, it's done through Devices» → «Libra» → «User management».
For advanced users:
- If you want to export data to Excel or Google Sheets, use Health Auto Export, which automatically uploads data from Apple Health.
- To ensure that the scales automatically turn on the backlight when weighing, activate the “Autolighting” function in the device settings in the application.
