Why sync Mi Band 2 with Xiaomi and what it takes
The Xiaomi Mi Band 2 fitness bracelet remains a popular gadget even years after its release, thanks to its simplicity, reliability and minimalist design. However, many users face difficulties when connecting the device to a smartphone for the first time, especially if both devices are from Xiaomi. In this article, we will examine not only the basic pairing procedure, but also the nuances of configuration, which the manufacturer often does not say.
Before you start, make sure you have everything you need: the Mi Band 2 bracelet itself with a charge of at least 20% (the charge indicator lights up when you press the touch button), a Xiaomi smartphone based on Android 5.0 or later (for iOS the instruction will differ), and a stable Internet connection. Importantly, the bracelet supports Bluetooth 4.0, so on older phones (for example, Redmi 1S or Mi 3) there may be connection problems.
If you upgrade your phoneβs firmware or reset your bracelet settings, youβll have to do the pairing process again, and note that the Mi Band 2 can only be connected to one device at a time, because if you try to sync with another smartphone, the previous binding will reset automatically.
Step 1: Install and configure the Mi Fit application
The official bracelet management app is Mi Fit (developer: Huami), which can be downloaded from Google Play or AppGallery (for Huawei devices), but for Xiaomi smartphones, downloading through GetApps (the Xiaomi store) is the best option, which will avoid compatibility issues and updates.
After installation:
- π± Open the app and select the language (we recommend Russian or English β other localizations may not work properly).
- π Click Sign In or Sign In if you already have a Xiaomi account (you can use Mi Account data).
- π In the add-on menu, select the bracelet β Mi Smart Band 2.
- π Allow the application to access geodata, notifications and Bluetooth (without this synchronization is impossible).
β οΈ Note: If you register in Mi Fit error "I failed to connect to the server", check whether it blocks VPN or firewall access to domains api.mi.com and account.xiaomi.com. Also try switching from mobile to Wi-Fi.
Step 2: Activate Bluetooth and search for the bracelet
Before connecting, make sure your phone is Bluetooth enabled and visibility mode is on for other devices.
- Go to Settings β Bluetooth.
- Activate the switch (if it is grey).
- Click Device Search and wait until Mi Band appears in the list. 2 (may be displayed as MI Band 2_XXXX, where XXXX β unique identifier).
If the bracelet is not present:
- π Check the bracelet charge (if it is below 5%, it will not appear in the list).
- π Reboot the Mi Band 2 by holding the touch button for 10 seconds before vibration.
- π± Make sure your phone doesnβt have active connections to other Bluetooth devices (earbuds, speakers, etc.) β they can cause interference.
Mi Band 2 does not support Bluetooth 5.0+ in low power mode (BLE). If your Xiaomi smartphone is equipped with a new chip (for example, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1), enable Bluetooth options for compatibility with outdated devices (usually hidden in Additional settings).
Charge the Mi Band 2 to 20%+
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone
Close background applications (especially messengers)
Make sure you have a stable Internet
Shut down. VPN (if used)-->
Step 3: Synchronize the bracelet with the phone
When the bracelet is found in Mi Fit, click on its name in the list of devices.
- Confirm the pairing on the phone (entry may be required) PIN-code - by default 0000 or 1234).
- Wait for the bracelet firmware update (if a new version is available). Don't interrupt the process! This can take up to 5-10 minutes.
- Set your basic parameters: gender, age, weight (this affects calories and steps), goal by step (we recommend starting with 8000 a day).
Once you've successfully synchronized, the bracelet vibrates, and the phone screen will show a message, "Connected."
- π Notifications (calls, SMS, messengers).
- πΆ Sleep tracking (automatic or manual).
- π Energy saving (turning off lighting at night).
β οΈ Warning: If the bracelet does not show notifications after connecting, check the Mi Fit settings in the Notifications section. β Permissions. On Xiaomi smartphones, you also need to manually allow the app to auto-run: Settings β Annexes β Mi Fit β Auto-start.
π‘
If the bracelet doesnβt vibrate when notified, try reconnecting it: remove the device in Mi Fit, restart the phone and repeat the pairing procedure.
Step 4: Set up notifications and additional features
One of the key features of the Mi Band 2 is the ability to receive notifications from your phone, so you can set them up:
- In Mi Fit, go to Profile β Mi Band 2 β Notifications.
- Turn on the Inbound Calls switch and select instant messengers (e.g. WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber).
- Set up vibration (short/long) and repetitions (e.g., 3 signals with 5 minute intervals).
Additional functions that should be activated:
| Function | Description | How to turn it on |
|---|---|---|
| Alarm clock | Vibration at a given time (even if the phone is silent) | Mi Fit β Alarm clock β Add |
| Phone search | The bracelet helps you find your phone if it is lost (sound signal) | Hold the button on the bracelet for 3 seconds |
| Screen unlocking | Automatically unlock your phone when the bracelet is close | Phone settings β Unlocking β Smart Lock |
| Sleep tracking | Analysis of sleep phases (deep, light, awakening) | Mi Fit β Sleep β Set up |
β οΈ Attention: the screen unlock function works only on Xiaomi smartphones with firmware MIUI 9 and later. Custom firmware (e.g. LineageOS) may not support.
Step 5: Solving Common Problems
Even with the right connection, users are faced with common errors.
Problem 1: The bracelet connects but does not synchronize data (steps, sleep).
- π Reset the bracelet (hold the button for 10 seconds).
- π± In Mi Fit, update the bracelet firmware (Device Profile) β Update of the PO).
- ποΈ Clear the app's cache: Phone settings β Annexes β Mi Fit β Warehouse β Clear the cache.
Problem 2: The bracelet discharges quickly (holds charge for less than 3 days).
- π Turn off the permanent screen lighting (Mi Fit) β Display. β Illumination).
- π Reduce the number of notifications (leave only important ones).
- π Check the firmware version β there was a bug with high power consumption in the old versions.
Problem 3: The bracelet does not vibrate when notified.
- π Check if the phone is not on Do Not Disturb.
- π Reconnect the bracelet (remove it in Mi Fit and add it again).
- π΅ Make sure notifications are allowed for Mi Fit in your phone settings.

Step 6: Alternative apps for Mi Band 2
If Mi Fit doesnβt suit you (for example, due to limited functionality or advertising), you can use third-party apps.
1. Notify & Fitness for Mi Band
- β More notification settings (you can choose the vibration for each messenger separately).
- β Support for custom dials.
- β Requires root rights for some functions (on Xiaomi without unlocking the bootloader does not work).
2. Mi Band Master
- β Expanded statistics on sleep and activity.
- β The ability to export data to Google Fit.
- β Does not support the latest versions MIUI 14 (may be bugs).
3.Amazfit (official app from Huami)
- β More stable synchronization than in Mi Fit.
- β Multiplayer support (you can tie the bracelet to multiple phones).
- β Fewer Russified Functions.
β οΈ Note: When using third-party apps, disable autosynchronization in Mi Fit to avoid conflicts. Also note that some features (such as firmware updates) may only work in official software.

For maximum stability of the Mi Band 2, it is recommended to use the official Mi Fit application and turn off energy-saving modes for it in the phone settings.
