Modern wearables from Xiaomi have become an integral part of the lives of millions of users who want to monitor their activity and health. However, the first contact with the device is often questionable, especially if you have not previously used the ecosystem of this manufacturer. The process of initial activation requires care, because the correctness of the steps depends on the stability of the future operation of the device.
The challenge for beginners is not so much pairing itself as choosing the right software. In recent years, the company has divided the functionality of its applications, and trying to use inappropriate software can lead to synchronization errors. It is important to understand that different tracker models are supported by different versions of software platforms.
In this guide, we will take a detailed look at the entire journey from unpacking to getting your first pulse and step data, learn about the intricacies of Bluetooth, account registration and how to fix typical connection errors, and get you started with a good setup that will save you a lot of problems in the future.
Selecting the right synchronization application
The first and most critical step is to install the right software on your smartphone. Mi Fit has long been the main application for all devices, but in 2021 the platform was renamed Zepp Life. It is this software that remains the basis for most popular models, such as the Mi Band 4, 5, 6 and 7. The interface here is sharpened for the mass user and offers a wide range of settings.
However, if you have purchased a newer or more specific model, such as the Mi Smart Band 8 Pro or a Redmi-branded device, the system may suggest switching to the Mi Fitness app (formerly known as Xiaomi Wear). Zepp Life has a more familiar menu structure for older users, while Mi Fitness offers an updated design and integration with new health services. QR-box-code.
Download programs should only be from official stores Google Play or App Store. APK-Files from unverified resources carry security risks and may lead to incorrect data synchronization. Once installed, be sure to provide the app with all the permissions requested, especially access to geolocation and notifications, without which many of the tracker’s features will be blocked by Android or iOS.
Preparation of a smartphone and bracelet for pairing
Before you go to software setting, you need to provide the right physical conditions for the connection. Make sure your bracelet has a battery charge. If the device has been in storage for a long time, its battery could run out of power and it just won't turn on for search mode. Put the tracker on charge for at least 15-20 minutes before the procedure begins.
On your smartphone, you need to activate the wireless module. Go to the settings and turn on Bluetooth. Unlike conventional headphones, Xiaomi bracelets do not always appear in the general list of available devices to connect directly through the phone menu. They are searched and associated strictly through the application interface, so do not try to pair them through the Bluetooth system menu.
Also critical is the permission to use geolocation. Android requires the inclusion GPS-module for applications scanning Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Without geolocation enabled, the app simply won’t see your tracker, even if it’s in pairing mode.

If the bracelet is new, remove the protective film from the charging contacts before installing it on the base, otherwise it may not charge or turn on.
Step-by-step: registration and addition of the device
The process of registering an account and adding a device is standardized, but requires a sequence of actions. First, open the installed application (Zepp Life or Mi Fitness) and log in to your account. If you do not have one, you will need to create a new one using a phone number or email. Once you have successfully logged in, you will be taken to the home screen where there is no activity data yet.
To start looking for a device, go to the user profile, usually a person icon or a Profile tab in the bottom menu. Click on Add Device (or + in the corner of the screen). The app will prompt you to select the device type from the list: select Bracelet or specific model if it appears in the recommended ones, and then the process of scanning the surrounding space will begin.
When on the screen of the smartphone will appear the image of your bracelet with its unique ID-You can click on the number to pair it. You can see a request on the tracker screen for confirmation of communication (vibration symbol or OK button). Press the confirmation on the bracelet. After a successful connection, the initial synchronization of time and firmware will occur.
☑️ Checklist of successful connection
⚠️ Warning: If the list of devices you find shows someone else's bracelet with the same name, don't connect to it. ID-a number that is usually listed on the back of the device or on the box to avoid being tied to someone else's gadget.
Configure access rights and permissions in the system
After the initial pairing, the work doesn’t end. To function properly, especially to receive notifications from messengers and track jogging routes, you need to configure system permissions. Android and iOS have strict energy saving policies that can “kill” the application process in the background, which will stop the data coming in.
Go to your smartphone settings, find the Apps section, and select your fitness app. In Permissions, make sure that access to: Memory (to save profile photos and maps), Contacts (to select callers' names), Phone and SMS is activated. Location access (Always or When used) must also be allowed, otherwise route tracking will not work.
Pay special attention to the battery settings. In the power consumption menu, find the app and set the "No Limits" or "No Savings" mode, which will prevent the connection from breaking when the phone screen is off. Without this setting, you may find the bracelet vibrating about the call late or not vibrating at all.
| Type of permit | What is necessary | Effects of disconnection |
|---|---|---|
| Geolocation (GPS) | Device search, jogging tracking | It is impossible to connect the bracelet, there are no route maps |
| Notifications | Transmitting messages and calls to the wrist | The bracelet is silent in incoming events |
| Auto-start | Application operation in the background | Breaking the connection after closing the application |
| Bluetooth | Basic connection to the gadget | Total lack of synchronization |
Why does the app require so many rights?
Update of firmware and initial calibration
Immediately after the connection, the application will likely suggest updating the bracelet software. Never ignore this message. Factory firmware may contain errors affecting sensor accuracy or Bluetooth connection stability. The upgrade process takes 5 to 15 minutes, during which the phone and bracelet should be nearby, and the application screen should not go out.
During the upgrade, the interface of the bracelet may change, the progress bar or logo will appear. Do not press any buttons on the tracker and do not try to break the connection. If the process is interrupted, the device can go into recovery mode, and reconnecting to it will be much more difficult, you may need to reset to factory settings.
After the update, you should calibrate your step, walk with your phone and bracelet at a known distance (e.g. 100 meters), or run a short distance by comparing it to the reference readings. In the application settings, you can manually enter your step length to improve the accuracy of your distance traveled, which is especially important for indoor training where GPS is not used.
⚠️ Warning: During firmware updates, the battery charge of the bracelet should be at least 50%. If the device sits down while writing new data, there is a risk of “bricking” when the gadget will cease to respond to commands.
Solving Typical Connection Problems
Even if you follow all the instructions, you can have technical failures. The most common problem is, "Device not found." In this case, the first thing you do is check if the bracelet is connected to another phone. It can only broadcast to one device at a time. If the bracelet was in use before, it must be untie in the application on the old phone or perform a full reset.
Another common case is persistent connection breaks. This is often treated by clearing the Bluetooth cache. Go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone, find your bracelet (if there is one) in the list, and click "Forget the device" or "Delete." Then re-search through the app. Also helps to reboot the smartphone itself, which resets the errors of the wireless drivers.
If an app writes “Connection Error” or freezes in the pairing phase, try uninstalling the app, restarting the phone, clearing the cache of Google Play services (on Android) and installing the app again. Sometimes the problem lies in an outdated version of the smartphone operating system, which is also worth updating.
💡
90% of connection problems are solved by completely removing the device from the phone’s Bluetooth list and re-binding exclusively through the Zepp Life or Mi Fitness app interface.
