Xiaomi Mi Band fitness bracelets (including Mi Band 7/8 Pro, Smart Band 7 and earlier versions) are tightly integrated with mobile devices via the Mi Fitness app. However, sometimes users are required to break this connection - whether before selling the bracelet, when changing a smartphone or fixing sync errors. Unlike simply disabling Bluetooth, full uncoupling requires removing the device from Xiaomi account and resetting the bracelet settings.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to disconnect the bracelet from the phone, including forced reset via Mi Fitness, deletion via the web version of the account, as well as manual methods for cases when the application does not respond. Particular attention will be paid to the nuances for NFC bracelets (for example, Mi Band 7 Pro), where the uncoupling can block payment functions. All instructions are checked on firmware from 2023-2026 and correspond to the latest updates to the Xiaomi ecosystem.
1.Preparation: What to do before turning off the bracelet
Before you break the link between the wristband and your phone, take a few critical steps to prevent data loss and avoid re-assignment issues.
- ๐ฑ Sync data: Open Mi Fitness, wait for full sync (the cloud icon in the upper right corner should disappear.
- ๐ Update the firmware: Outdated versions of the bracelet software can block reset. Check for updates to the Device Profile โ Firmware update.
- ๐ณ Payment cards (for models with the NFC): Remove the attached cards in Mi Fitness โ The device โ NFC โ Manage the cards, otherwise they will remain blocked.
- ๐ก Check Bluetooth: Make sure the bracelet is connected to the phone (in Bluetooth settings should show as MI Band X).
If you plan to sell or transfer the bracelet to another user, be sure to complete a factory reset โ this will delete all personal information, including steps, pulse and sleep data.
โ ๏ธ Note: After detaching the bracelet from your Xiaomi account, all unsynchronized data (over the past 7 days) will be lost without recovery. If the application does not sync for a long time, try restarting Bluetooth on your phone or reinstall Mi Fitness.
Method 1: Standard shutdown via Mi Fitness
The easiest and most recommended method is to use the official app, which is suitable for most models, including the Mi Band 6/7/8 and Smart Band series, and the instructions are relevant for the Mi Fitness 5.6.0 version and later (2026).
- Open Mi Fitness and go to the Profile tab (the human icon in the lower right corner).
- Select your bracelet from the device list (click on its name, for example, Mi Smart Band 7).
- Scroll down and click Remove the device (or Untie the bracelet in older versions).
- Confirm the action by entering the password from the Xiaomi account (if requested).
- Wait for the notification of successful removal, the bracelet will automatically reset.
After that, the device will disappear from the list in Mi Fitness, and on the screen of the bracelet will appear. QR-If you don't, do a forced reboot: press the touch button on the bracelet for 10 to 15 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
Launch the application and wait for synchronization
Delete payment cards (for the purpose of NFC-model)
Connect the bracelet to charging (minimum 20% charge)
Remember the password from the Xiaomi account
Shut down. VPN (It can block Xiaomi servers)-->
3. Method 2: Remove the bracelet through the web version of the Xiaomi account
If the Mi Fitness app doesnโt respond to commands (e.g., freezes during the deletion step), you can untie the bracelet via your browser, which is also useful if you donโt have access to the phone to which the bracelet is tied.
- Go to account.xiaomi.com and log in to the same account that the bracelet is attached to.
- From the menu, select Devices โ Smart Devices (or IoT Devices in English).
- Find your bracelet in the list (it can be displayed as Mi Band X or MIBAND with serial number).
- Press three points (โฎ) Next to the device and select Unbind).
- Confirm the action via SMS or email (if two-factor authentication is enabled).
After deleting the bracelet through the web interface, the bracelet is automatically unlocked for new binding. However, the data on the device itself is not reset โ reset the bracelet menu to completely delete the information (see Method 4).
| Uncoupling method | Suitable for models | Phone required. | Drops data on a bracelet. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Through Mi Fitness. | All models. | Yes. | No (requires separate reset) |
| Through a web account | All models. | No. | No. |
| Reset on the bracelet | All except Mi Band 1-3 | No. | Yes. |
| Through Zepp Life | Mi Band 7 Pro, Smart Band 8 Pro | Yes. | No. |
โ ๏ธ Note: If the bracelet was linked to a Xiaomi account in China (grey devices), the web version of the account may not display it in the list of devices. In this case, use method 4 (manual reset) or contact Xiaomi with proof of purchase.
4. Method 3: Forced resetting of the bracelet to factory settings
If previous methods have failed (e.g., the bracelet is not displayed in the account or the app is making an error), perform a hardware reset, which will delete all data from the device, including account binding.
For the Mi Band 4/5/6/7/8 and Smart Band 7/8:
- Remove the bracelet from your hand and connect to charging (at least 50% charge).
- On the bracelet screen, swipe to the right to open the Settings menu (cog icon).
- Scroll down to Reset (or Reset) and confirm the selection.
- The bracelet will reset and show QR-rebound.
For the Mi Band 7 Pro and 8 Pro:
- Press the touch button for 10 seconds until the recovery menu appears.
- Select Wipe Data (Data Erasure) with touch.
- Confirm the action and wait for the reboot.
After resetting, the bracelet will be completely cleaned, including:
- ๐ Linking to Xiaomi account;
- ๐ Activity data (steps, sleep, pulse);
- ๐ Settings of alarm clocks, notifications and screens;
- ๐ณ Payment cards (for NFC-model).
๐ก
If the bracelet does not respond to touch during reset, connect it to charging and try again. AMOLED-screens (Mi Band 7 Pro) display brightness in the reset menu can be very low โ dim the light in the room.
5. Method 4: Disconnect via the Zepp Life app (for Pro models)
The Mi Band 7 Pro, 8 Pro and Smart Band 8 Pro bracelets support the alternative Zepp Life app (formerly Amazfit). If the device was tied through it, the standard Mi Fitness may not see the bracelet.
- Install Zepp Life from Google Play or App Store.
- Sign in with the same Xiaomi account that was used for the link.
- Go to Profile. โ My devices and choose a bracelet.
- Press Untie the device and confirm the action.
If Zepp Life displays the bracelet as โinactiveโ, it means that it is already detached from the account, but the data on the device is not reset, in which case perform a manual reset (mode 3).
What if Zepp Life doesnโt see the bracelet?
6. Problem Solving: The bracelet doesn't untie
Sometimes the process of disabling is blocked due to software failures or account limitations, letโs consider the typical errors and how to fix them:
Error: "Failure to remove device" in Mi Fitness
- ๐ Check the internet connection: The app requires stable access to Xiaomi servers. VPN Go to mobile data if Wi-Fi is unstable.
- ๐ฑ Update the app: Outdated versions of Mi Fitness may not support new bracelet models.Update it through the app store.
- ๐ Restart Bluetooth: Turn off and turn on Bluetooth again on your phone, then try again to delete.
- ๐ง Change your account: If the bracelet was linked to another account, sign in to Mi Fitness under it.
The bracelet is not reset (hangs on the Mi logo)
If the bracelet does not turn on or freezes on the loading screen after reset:
- Connect it to charging and wait 30 to 60 minutes (even if the indicator is not on).
- Try a forced reboot: press the button for 20-30 seconds.
- If the screen is black, check the cable and power supply (use Xiaomiโs original 5V/1A adapter).
NFC-Payments remain blocked
After the bracelet is unblocked from the NFC (e.g. Mi Band 7 Pro), payment cards can remain in the "locked" status to unlock:
- Delete cards via Mi Fitness โ Device โ NFC โ Card Management.
- If the cards are not deleted, contact the bank with a request to untie them from the Mi Band device (specify the last 4 digits of the card).
- For Chinese versions of bracelets (CN-Firmware) may require changing your account region to China in the Mi Fitness settings.
๐ก
If the bracelet was purchased in China (grey imports), it may require a Chinese version of the Mi Fitness app and an account with the China region, in which case it is easier to perform a hardware reset (mode 3).
