The Xiaomi Mi Band 6 fitness bracelet has become one of the most popular activity tracking gadgets due to its combination of functionality and affordable price. However, many users have difficulty setting up notifications, the most popular feature after the pedometer. Unlike previous models, the Mi Band 6 offers advanced customization options for alerts, but not everyone knows how to use them.
In this article, we will not only discuss basic actions (how to turn on call notifications or SMS), but also hidden settings: filtering applications, setting vibrations, solving synchronization problems. Particular attention will be paid to the limitations of iOS โ iPhone owners often face the fact that some functions are simply not available due to Appleโs policy.
Preparation: What you need to set up notifications
Before you start setting up, make sure that three key conditions are met:
- ๐ฑ The official app is Mi Fitness (formerly Mi Fit) downloaded from Google Play or the App Store. Alternative apps (like Notify & Fitness) may offer more features, but often run unstablely.
- ๐ The bracelet is paired to your smartphone via Bluetooth. Check the connection in the phone's Bluetooth settings - the device should be displayed as MI Band 6 or Mi Smart Band 6.
- ๐ The bracelet firmware version is up to date. Outdated software can block notifications. Update the firmware through the Device Profile โ Update of the firmware in the Mi Fitness app.
If you use Android, give the app all the permissions you have requested (especially Notices, Contacts, and SMS) and on the iPhone, some of the features will be limited, such as not configuring alerts from third-party messengers (Telegram, WhatsApp) directly through Mi Fitness.
โ ๏ธ Note: App notifications on iOS (except for calls and SMS) They only come if the app itself (like Viber) sends a push notification to the wristband.Mi Fitness can't intercept alerts from the iPhone screen due to Apple's restrictions.
Basic notification settings in Mi Fitness
To enable notifications, open the Mi Fitness app and go to Profile โ Mi Smart Band 6 โ Notifications. Here are the basic options:
- Incoming calls are alerts for missed and incoming calls. On Android, you can turn on the display of the subscriber's name (if the contact is saved in the phone book).
- SMS is a notification for new messages. On iOS, it only works for the standard Messages app.
- Apps are a list of programs you want to receive alerts from. On Android, you can choose any application, on iOS, only those that support notifications to the bracelet (for example, Mi Fitness itself).
- Activity goals are reminders of reaching daily goals in steps, calories, or activity time.
Additional parameters are available for each type of notification:
| Type of notification | Android | iOS | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Incoming calls | โ Subscriber name, call refusal | โ Number only (without name) | On the iPhone can not be challenged from the bracelet |
| SMS | โ Full text of the communication | โ Notification only (without text) | On iOS, the text of the SMS does not appear |
| Third-party annexes | โ Any (Viber, Telegram, etc.) | โ Only supported | On iOS requires setting up in the application itself |
| Alarm clocks | โ Vibration. + sound (if on) | โ Just vibration. | The sound only works on Android |
When you turn on the options, be sure to sync the bracelet to your phone. To do this, pull the bracelet screen down (swipe down gesture) and wait for the sync icon to appear. If notifications do not come, reset the bracelet (press the touch button for 10 seconds) and repeat the sync.
๐ก
If notifications are duplicated (come to both the phone and the bracelet), disable duplication in Android settings: Settings โ Notifications โ Additional โ Do not duplicate notifications on connected devices.
Advanced settings: filtering and priorities
Mi Band 6 lets you not only turn notifications on/off, but also set your priorities, which is useful if you donโt want the bracelet to vibrate from every chat message or push ad.
To set up the filtering:
- In the Mi Fitness app, go to Profile โ Mi Smart Band 6 โ Notifications โ Applications.
- Select the app you want (such as WhatsApp).
- Activate the Display Notifications switch.
- Click on Notification Settings (if option is available) and select priority: ๐ All notifications โ the bracelet will vibrate at each alert. ๐ Only important โ filtered by keywords (such as mentioning your name). ๐ซ Disable โ Ignore notifications from this app.
On Android, you can also customize Keywords, for example, you can specify that the bracelet should only vibrate if the message contains the words "urgently" or "meeting."
- In the app notification settings, select Keywords.
- Add the desired phrases by comma (registrar is not important).
- Save the changes and sync the bracelet.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Keywords function only works for text notifications (SMS, For system alerts (e.g. low battery charge), it is not available.

Setup of vibration and sound
By default, the Mi Band 6 alerts you to new notifications in a short vibration, but you can change the intensity or add an audible signal (available only on Android).
To set the vibration:
- Open Mi Fitness and go to Profile โ Mi Smart Band 6 โ Notifications โ Vibration settings.
- Choose one of three modes: ๐ Short vibration โ 1 pulse (by default). ๐๐ Long vibration โ 2 pulses (for important notifications). ๐๐๐ Intense vibration โ 3 pulses (for example, for an alarm clock).
Revibration
On Android, there's an additional audio signal available to turn it on:
- Go to Profile โ Mi Smart Band 6 โ Notifications โ Sound.
- Activate the Sound Alert Switch.
- Choose a tune from the suggested ones or download your own (.mp3 format, up to 500 KB size).
If the problem persists, try the following:
- Remove the bracelet from the list of devices in Mi Fitness and connect again.
- Clear the app cache: Phone Settings โ Apps โ Mi Fitness โ Memory โ Clear the cache.
- Update Mi Fitness to the latest version (sometimes bugs are fixed in new releases).
โ ๏ธ Note: On iPhone notifications may not come due to background restrictions of iOS. Try to enable for Mi Fitness option Content Update in the app settings (iPhone Settings) โ Mi Fitness โ Updating the contents).
๐ก
On Android, most notification issues are solved by disabling battery optimization for Mi Fitness and checking permissions. On iOS, options are limited by Apple's policies.
Features of settings for iPhone
iPhone owners face a number of limitations when working with the Mi Band 6.
- ๐ฑ No access to third-party notifications โ Mi Fitness canโt intercept alerts from WhatsApp, Viber or Instagram. To receive notifications from these apps on the bracelet, you need to configure them directly in the messenger itself (if such an option is available).
- ๐ No synchronization of contacts - when an incoming call is made, only the number will be displayed on the bracelet, without the subscriber's name.
- ๐ต No Call Management โ You canโt reset or take a call from your bracelet (on Android itโs available).
- ๐ Limited vibration settings โ you canโt choose the duration or intensity of the vibration for different types of notifications.
To get around these restrictions, you can use third-party apps like Notify & Fitness for Mi Band (available on the App Store).
- ๐ Get notifications from any application (but requires constant background work, which drains the battery quickly).
- ๐ Configure filters for alerts (e.g., ignore advertising pushes).
- ๐ Sync Sleep and Activity Data with Apple Health.
However, note that third-party apps may not work as well and require additional permissions (such as notification access).
