Xiaomi Mi Band 3 remains one of the most popular fitness bracelets even years after its release, thanks to a combination of affordable price, reliability and wide functionality. However, many users face a problem: the official firmware of the device often comes with a Chinese or English interface, and Russian localization requires additional manipulation. In this article, we will discuss how to properly configure the bracelet in Russian, connect it to a smartphone, activate notifications and optimize work for maximum comfort.
It's important to understand that the Mi Band 3 supports Russification in two ways: through the official Mi Fit app (now Zepp Life) or by installing custom firmware. The first method is simpler and safer, but it doesn't always give you 100% translation. The second one requires technical skills, but it gives you access to advanced features. We'll look at both options, and we'll give you tips on how to set up the basic parameters: time, alarm clocks, pedometer and sync with Google Fit.
Preparation for the setup: what will be needed
Before you start setting up the Xiaomi Mi Band 3, make sure you have everything you need:
- π± Smartphone on Android 5.0+ or iOS 10.0+ Bluetooth 4.0 support.
- π Charged bracelet (minimum 20% battery).
- π Stable Internet connection (for downloading applications and updates).
- π² Official Zepp Life app (formerly Mi Fit) or alternative firmware.
If you bought the bracelet from a Chinese store (for example, on AliExpress), there is a high probability that it is Chinese firmware, in which case Russification through a standard application may not work β you will need to force a change of region in the smartphone settings or install modified software, we will discuss this in the corresponding section.
β οΈ Warning: If the bracelet was previously linked to another Xiaomi account, reset to factory settings. To do this, press and hold the Mi Band 3 touch button for 10-15 seconds until the vibration appears.
Also check your smartphoneβs compatibility with the bracelet. For example, some Huawei or Honor models may have sync problems due to manufacturer limitations, in which case try using a second smartphone or turn on the developer mode on the main device.
Installation and configuration of the Zepp Life (Mi Fit) application
The official Mi Band 3 management app is called Zepp Life (formerly Mi Fit), which can be downloaded for free on Google Play or the App Store, and it is important to use the latest version, as older releases may not support Russification.
After installation, follow the following steps:
- Start Zepp Life and sign up (or sign in) through your Xiaomi, Google, Facebook account or phone number.
- Click Add Device and select Mi Smart Band 3 from the list.
- Allow the app to access geolocation, notifications and Bluetooth.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to connect the bracelet via Bluetooth.
If after connecting the interface bracelet remained in Chinese or English, go to the settings of the application:
- Open Profile β Settings β Region.
- Choose Russia or Ukraine (if Russia is not on the list).
- Reset the bracelet (hold the button 3 seconds until vibration).
β οΈ Note: On some firmware, changing the region in the application does not automatically Russify the bracelet. In this case, you will need to update the firmware through Zepp Life or install a custom version.

Russification Xiaomi Mi Band 3: official and unofficial ways
If changing the region to Zepp Life didn't help, there are two ways: wait for the automatic firmware update or install the Russified version manually.
Official method (through update)
Most often, Russification occurs after updating the firmware of the bracelet.
- Open Zepp Life and go to Profile β Mi Smart Band 3 β Firmware Update.
- If a new version is available, click Update and wait for the process to complete (5-10 minutes).
- After the update, restart the bracelet.
Usually, the bracelet menu is in Russian after that, but if there are no updates or they do not contain localization, you will have to use informal methods.
Informal method (castom firmware)
For Russification through custom firmware will require:
- π± Android smartphone (for iOS, this method does not work).
- π Mi Band 3 Tools and Notify & Fitness.
- π Firmware file with Russian language (can be found on the forums) 4PDA or XDA Developers).
Instructions:
- Download and install Notify & Fitness from Google Play.
- Connect the bracelet to the application (allow all requests).
- Go to Settings β Firmware β Select a file and download the Russified firmware.
- Click Set and wait until it is completed (the bracelet will reboot).
β οΈ Attention: Installing custom firmware may result in loss of warranty and unstable bracelet operation. Before the procedure, back up your data to Zepp Life.
What if the bracelet stopped working after the firmware?
Set up the main functions of the bracelet
Once Russified, you can start setting the basic parameters. Letβs look at the key features that are available in the Xiaomi Mi Band 3.
1.Time and date
The bracelet automatically synchronizes time with the smartphone, but if necessary, it can be adjusted manually:
- In Zepp Life, go to Profile β Mi Smart Band 3 β Time settings.
- Activate Auto Sync or set the time zone manually.
If time is stuttered, check your battery saving settings on your smartphone β some modes block background synchronization.
Notifications
To receive alerts about calls and messages:
- In Zepp Life, select Notifications β Notification Management.
- Turn on the switch for the desired applications (for example, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS).
- Set up vibration and display the notification text.
On Mi Band 3, only the first paragraph of the message (up to 120 characters) is displayed.
3. Monitoring sleep and activity
The bracelet automatically tracks sleep and physical activity.
- π Specify in Zepp Life your age, weight and height.
- π Select a goal by step (8000-10,000 steps/day recommended).
- π€ Turn on Do Not Disturb During Sleep to Avoid Nightly Notifications.
| Function | How to set up | Advice |
|---|---|---|
| Stepper | Automatically activated when wearing. Calibration: walk 20 steps with a bracelet. | Wear the bracelet on a non-dominant hand for accuracy. |
| pulsemeter | Included in Profile β Heart Monitoring. Measurement frequency: every 30 minutes. | For accuracy, wear a tighter bracelet during training. |
| Alarm clock | Add to the profile β Alarm clocks, up to 10 signals are supported. | The vibration of the bracelet is quieter than the sound of a smartphone - check before going to bed. |
π‘
If the bracelet counts steps incorrectly, try calibrating it: go exactly 50 steps, then in Zepp Life select Settings β Calibration of the pedometer and enter the actual number.
Synchronize with Google Fit and other services
Xiaomi Mi Band 3 supports integration with Google Fit, Apple Health and Strava, which allows you to collect health data in one place and analyze it using third-party applications.
To connect to Google Fit:
- Open Zepp Life and go to Profile β Settings β Data Synchronization.
- Select Google Fit and log in through your Google account.
- Allow access to steps, sleep and pulse data.
The information from the bracelet will then be automatically transmitted to Google Fit every 15 to 30 minutes.
- π Restart both apps (Zepp Life and Google Fit).
- π± Check the permissions in the smartphone settings (Settings) β Annexes β Zepp Life β Permits).
- π Make sure that the bracelet has enough charge (minimum 10%).
β οΈ Note: When synced with Apple Health on iPhone, sleep data may be duplicated. To avoid this, turn off automatic sleep recording in the Zepp Life settings.
π‘
Sync with Google Fit allows you to use Mi Band 3 data in other fitness applications, such as MyFitnessPal or Endomondo.
Challenges and solutions
Even after you set up the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 properly, there may be problems, and letβs look at the most common ones and how to fix them.
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The bracelet does not connect to the phone. | Bluetooth disabled or occupied by another device | Restart Bluetooth, remove the bracelet from the list of devices and connect again. |
| No notifications coming. | No permits for Zepp Life | Check the notification settings in the system and in the application itself. |
| Battery discharges fast | Frequent pulse measurements or hand lifting enabled to activate | Reduce the frequency of pulse measurements or turn off screen autoactivation. |
| Wrong step counting | Incorrect calibration or wearing on the dominant hand | Recalibrate the pedometer and wear the bracelet on the other hand. |
If the bracelet has stopped responding to touch, try:
- Clean the screen with a wet wipe (mud can block the sensor).
- Reboot the device (hold the 10 seconds button).
- Update the firmware through Zepp Life.
In rare cases, a complete reset of the bracelet may be required.
- Remove it from the Zepp Life app.
- Reset the settings on the bracelet (hold the button 15 seconds before vibration).
- Reconnect as you did at the first setup.
