Why is Xiaomi Mi Band 2 still relevant?
Although the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 was released in 2016, it remains one of the most popular fitness bracelets among Android users, and the reason is simple: reliability, minimalist design and basic functionality that covers 80% of the needs of the average user. This gadget can count steps, monitor sleep, display notifications from a smartphone and even measure heart rate β all at a price that is many times lower than modern analogues.
However, many people have difficulty setting up, especially if the bracelet is purchased with hands or after reset. In this article, we will analyze the step-by-step instructions for connecting the Mi Band 2 to an Android smartphone, installing Russian-language software, configuring basic functions and solving typical problems.
Important: If you have a newer model (e.g. Mi Band 3/4/5/6/7), some of the instructions may not work β the application interface and synchronization algorithms have changed. But for Mi Band 2, this article will remain relevant for a long time, since Xiaomi no longer releases firmware updates for this model.
Preparation for the setup: what will be needed?
Before you start connecting, make sure you have everything you need:
- π± Android-smartphone with OS version not lower than Android 5.0 (for stable operation better 6.0)+). On Android 4.4 and below, the app may not be installed.
- π Xiaomi Mi Band 2 with at least 20% charge. If the bracelet is discharged, plug it into charging for 30-40 minutes.
- π Stable Internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile network) for downloading applications and updates.
- π² Free space on the smartphone: the Mi Fit app weighs ~50MB, plus you'll need cache space.
Also check if your phone has any fitness bracelet apps installed before (like Zepp, Huawei Health, or Google Fit) that may conflict with Mi Fit and block the connection. If you have any, temporarily uninstall them or disable auto-start.
Installation and configuration of the Mi Fit application
The official Mi Band 2 management app is called Mi Fit, which can be downloaded from Google Play or Xiaomi's official website. It is important to use only the original version - modified (hacked) builds may contain viruses or malfunction with the bracelet.
Installation instructions:
- Open Google Play and type in Mi Fit.
- Choose an app from Xiaomi Inc. (make sure itβs not fake!).
- Click Install and wait for the download to be completed.
- After installation, open the application and accept the user agreement.
- Sign up or sign in through your Xiaomi, Google, Facebook or Apple ID account.
If you already have a Mi Account, use it to make it easier to sync data between devices. If you donβt have an account, register a new one: without it, some of the braceletβs features will not be available (for example, backup statistics).

Connecting Mi Band 2 to a smartphone: step-by-step instructions
Now, to the most important thing, pairing the bracelet with your smartphone, follow the instructions carefully, as this is the stage where errors are most common.

- Select from the Mi Smart Band 2 list (if not, update the app).
- Press Connect and wait for the smartphone to find the bracelet. This can take up to 30 seconds.
- When vibration and confirmation request appear on the bracelet screen, tap the touch button below the display.
- Wait for the synchronization to be completed β the message Connected successfully will appear in the application.
If the bracelet is not present, try the following:
- π Reboot the Mi Band 2 (press the touch button for 10 seconds until vibrations appear).
- π± Reboot your smartphone and turn on Bluetooth again.
- π Make sure the bracelet is charged (at low charge it doesn't show up in the list of devices).
- π« Turn it off. VPN Proxies β they can block the connection to Xiaomi servers.
What if Mi Fit canβt see the bracelet?
An important caveat: once connected, the bracelet can automatically update the firmware. Don't interrupt this process - if the update fails, the bracelet may stop turning on and need to be reset via the charger. Usually, the update takes 2-5 minutes.
Set up the main functions: pedometer, notifications, alarm clock
Once you've successfully connected, you can start customizing. Consider the key settings that are available in Mi Fit for Mi Band 2:
| Function | How to set up | Recommendations |
|---|---|---|
| Stepper | Go to Profile β Mi Smart Band 2 β Steps and set your day goal (by default, 8000 steps). | Calibrate the bracelet for accuracy: walk 20 steps, then enter the real number in the settings. |
| Notifications | Include in Notifications β Notification Management and select applications (SMS, calls, instant messengers). | Turn off unnecessary notifications (such as games) to avoid draining the bracelet. |
| Alarm clock | Add to the alarm clocks. β Add an alarm clock, set the time and days of the week. | The vibration of the bracelet is quieter than the sound of a smartphone β test in advance. |
| pulsemeter | Activate the Heartbeat β Automatic monitoring (every 30 minutes or manually). | For accuracy, wear the bracelet tightly, but do not clutch your hand. |
Pay special attention to the notification settings. By default, the bracelet vibrates when incoming calls and SMS, but for instant messengers (WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber) you need to manually configure:
- In Mi Fit, go to Notifications β Notification Management.
- Activate the slider Show notifications.
- Select the apps you want to see on your bracelet.
- On some smartphones (e.g. Xiaomi, Samsung) you additionally need to allow Mi Fit to access notifications in Android settings (Settings β Applications β Mi Fit β Notifications β Allow).

If notifications donβt come, check your smartphoneβs energy saving settings. Some manufacturers (such as Huawei) aggressively close the background processes, which prevents Mi Fit from transmitting data to the wristband.
Update firmware and reset settings
Although the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 has not received official updates for a long time, sometimes the firmware of the bracelet can become outdated (for example, if you bought a used device).
- Open Profile β Mi Smart Band 2 β Update firmware.
- If a new version is available, click Update.
- Wait until the process is complete (the bracelet will reboot automatically).
Warning: If the update is suspended during the Preparation for Update or Data Transfer stage, do not turn off Bluetooth or remove the bracelet from charging. This can lead to a brick (breaking of the firmware).
β οΈ Warning: If the bracelet stopped responding after a failed upgrade, try resetting it to factory settings. To do this: Place the Mi Band 2 in the charger. Press the touch button for 10-15 seconds until the vibration appears. Release the button, the bracelet resets and resets. After resetting, repeat the connection procedure again.
If the reset didnβt work, you may need to manually run through third-party utilities (such as the Mi Band 2 Tool). However, this method is risky and requires experience β wrong actions can permanently put the bracelet out of order.
Solving Typical Problems with Mi Band 2
Even after setting up correctly, users encounter bugs, and consider the most common problems and ways to fix them:
- π Bracelet discharges quickly: Turn off constant pulse monitoring (in Heartbeat) β Automatic monitoring. Reduce the brightness of the screen or turn off the backlight. Check if there are third-party applications for the bracelet installed, which can consume charge.
- π΅ Bracelet disconnects from phone: In Bluetooth smartphone settings, turn off Energy Saving for Mi Band 2. Reconnect the bracelet to Mi Fit. Check if the antivirus does not block the connection.
- π« Data sync doesn't work: Update the Mi Fit app to the latest version. Reboot your smartphone and bracelet. Check your Internet connection - without it, data won't sync to the cloud.
If the problem persists, try resetting the bracelet settings (as described in the previous section) or reinstalling the Mi Fit. In extreme cases, contact Xiaomi Support - there is a Feedback section in the app for this.

Most of the problems with the Mi Band 2 are due to an unstable Bluetooth connection or application conflicts. Always start your diagnosis with a reboot of the bracelet and smartphone.
Alternative applications for Mi Band 2
The official Mi Fit app doesnβt always suit users: it has limited functionality, there is no Russian language in some versions, and the interface seems outdated.
- π± Notify & Fitness for Mi Band: Supports all Mi Band 2 features, including custom dials. There is Russian and advanced notification settings. Requires Android 6.0+ and permissions to access notifications.
- π§ Mi Band Master: Allows you to adjust vibration, screen brightness and heart rate intervals. There's a function Do not disturb on schedule. Some functions only work with root rights.
- π Tools & Mi Band: Minimalist interface with a focus on statistics (steps, sleep, pulse) Supports data export to Google Fit. Free version with ads.
Before installing third-party apps, disable autosynchronization in Mi Fit to avoid conflicts. Also note that alternative programs may not support all of the bracelet's features (for example, automatic firmware updates).
If you decide to return to the official application, pre-reset the bracelet to factory settings - this will delete all data from third-party programs.
