Xiaomi Mi Band 3
all stages of adjustment
The Mi Band 3 is only available when it is properly configured, and for example, few people know that the bracelet can turn off unnecessary app notifications, set up automatic sleep tracking, or even change the order of screens on the main display, and we'll show you how to do this, and also warn you against common errors that shorten the life of the device.
If you've just unpacked the bracelet or want to recheck its settings, this guide will help you avoid frequent problems, and for power users, we've prepared a section with hidden features that are not written about in the official manuals.
Preparation of the bracelet for the first inclusion
Before setting up the Mi Band 3, make sure the device is charged. Despite a modest 110mAh battery, the bracelet can last up to 20 days with moderate use, but after purchase, the charge is usually minimal.
Use the original magnetic connector cable to charge. Do not connect the bracelet to charging via USB- hubs or low-quality adapters, which can cause the power controller to fail. Optimally use the power supply on the 5V/1A (for example, from a Xiaomi smartphone). Full charging takes about 1.5-2 hours.
While the bracelet is charging, check the complete set:
- π¦ Mi Band 3 fitness bracelet (black or other color)
- π Magnetic USB- charging cable
- π Brief instruction (usually in several languages but without details)
- π Strap (sold separately in some trim levels)
If the bracelet does not respond to the connection to charging, try:
- Wipe the contacts on the back of the bracelet with an alcohol napkin.
- Turn the cable (the magnet must be tightly attracted).
- Connect to another USB- port or power supply.
2. Installation and configuration of the Mi Fit application
Without the official Mi Fit app (or Zepp Life alternative), the Mi Band 3 bracelet will work like a regular watch. The app is available for Android (version 5.0 and higher) and iOS (version 10.0 and higher).
- π€ Google Play for Android)
- π App Store (for iPhone)
After installation:
- Sign up or sign in via your Xiaomi account (you can use Google/Facebook).
- Click Add Device and select Mi Smart Band 3.
- Allow the app to access notifications, geolocation, and contacts (necessary for proper operation).
If the app does not find the bracelet:
β οΈ Warning: Turn off Bluetooth on other devices (e.g., laptop or tablet) as the Mi Band 3 may try to connect to them instead of a smartphone. Also check that the phone has enabled visibility mode for all devices in the Bluetooth settings.
βοΈ Preparation for synchronization
3. Synchronization of the bracelet with a smartphone
When the bracelet and the application are ready, start the pairing procedure:
- In the Mi Fit app, click Add Device β Bracelet β Mi Smart Band 3.
- The bracelet will have a vibration and a confirmation code, compare it to the code in the app.
- Confirm pairing on your phone and bracelet (click on the touch button Mi Band 3).
If the code doesn't appear:
- π Reset the bracelet: Press the touch button for 10 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
- π± Reinstall the Mi Fit app (sometimes the cache interferes with synchronization).
- π Try connecting from another smartphone to rule out a problem in the bracelet.
Once synchronized successfully, the app will prompt you to update your firmware. Always agree to an update, which fixes errors and adds new features. It will take 3-5 minutes, don't interrupt the connection!

4. Basic settings: time, date, notifications
After synchronization, set the main parameters:
| Parameter | Where to set up | Recommendations |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic time synchronization | Profile β Mi Smart Band 3 β Time settings | Turn on the clock to be updated when time zones change |
| Time format (12/24 hours) | Profile β Mi Smart Band 3 β Display and brightness | Choose a 24-hour format for convenience |
| Call notifications | Profile β Notifications β Incoming calls | Turn on the vibration and backlight of the screen |
| Notifications from the annexes | Profile β Notifications β Applications | Turn off unnecessary (such as games or social networks) |
To set up notifications:
- In Mi Fit, go to Profile β Notifications.
- Select the apps you want to receive alerts from (such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Gmail).
- Set up the display style: only vibration, screen highlighting or full text.
Important: On the iPhone, for the correct operation of notifications, you need:
- π± Allow Mi Fit to show notifications in iOS settings (Settings β Notifications β Mi Fit).
- π Enable background data transmission for the application.
- π Disable battery optimization for Mi Fit (otherwise notifications will come with a delay).
π‘
If notifications are duplicated (come to both the phone and the bracelet), turn them off in the settings of the application itself (for example, in Telegram or Viber).
5. Setting alarm clocks and reminders
Mi Band 3 supports up to 10 alarm clocks and smart reminders (such as being inactive or taking water) to customize:
- In Mi Fit, go to Profile β Mi Smart Band 3 β Alarm clocks.
- Click Add an alarm and specify the time, days of the week and type of alert (vibration + sound on the phone).
- For reminders of inactivity, go to Profile β Reminders β Targeted reminders.
The alarm clocks on Mi Band 3:
- β° You can set a repeating alarm clock for specific days (e.g. weekdays only).
- π The vibration of the bracelet is independent of the Do Not Disturb mode on the phone.
- π For a smooth wake-up, set your alarm 10-15 minutes early and select a tune with a gradual increase in volume in your phone.
If the alarm doesn't work:
β οΈ Warning: Check to see if the Do Not Disturb mode is turned off in the bracelet itself. To do this, scroll through the screens on the bracelet to the icon π and make sure it is not active. Also make sure that the alarm is saved in Mi Fit (sometimes due to a synchronization failure it disappears).
π‘
The alarm clocks on Mi Band 3 work even without a phone connection β the bracelet stores them in its memory.
6. Battery and screen optimization
Mi Band 3 is famous for its long run time, but if you don't set the charge correctly, it can go down in 3-5 days.
| Parameter | Impact on the battery | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Raising your hand to activate the screen | Medium (sensor is constantly working) | Turn off if you accidentally activate the screen frequently. |
| Constant screen illumination | Strong (reduces work time by 2-3 times) | Use only when necessary |
| Data synchronization frequency | Weak (if synchronized manually) | Set automatic synchronization once every 30 minutes. |
| Notifications from annexes | Average (each notification will wake the screen) | Disable unnecessary applications |
To adjust the screen:
- In Mi Fit, go to Profile β Mi Smart Band 3 β Display and Brightness.
- Turn off the βRaise your hand to activateβ if the screen is turned on too often.
- Set the lighting time to 5 seconds (the optimal balance between convenience and economy).
- Choose the minimum brightness (usually 2-3 divisions out of 5 are enough).
If the bracelet is discharged in 1-2 days:
- π Check if the backlight is on (disables in the display and brightness).
- π± Remove and re-add the bracelet to Mi Fit β sometimes synchronization failure leads to increased consumption.
- π Update the bracelet firmware to the latest version (older versions had power-consuming bugs).
π‘
If the bracelet is discharged to zero and does not turn on, connect it to charging and wait 10-15 minutes - sometimes it takes time to "wake up" the controller.
7. Hidden features and life hacks for Mi Band 3
The Mi Band 3 has more than the official manual says. Here are some useful tips:
- π Phone Search: In the bracelet, scroll through the screens to the icon π± and press the phone to ring (even in silent mode).
- πΆ Route Tracking: In Mi Fit, enable Route Recording in the Running/Walking settings β the bracelet will use the phoneβs GPS to build a map.
- π Phone screen lock: In the bracelet settings, enable Phone Unlock β you can unlock your smartphone by double pressing the bracelet button (Android is required).
- π Do Not Disturb Mode: Activated on the bracelet β turns off all notifications and vibrations (useful in meetings or while sleeping).
For experienced users:
- π οΈ Change the order of screens: In Mi Fit, you can drag and drop icons in Profile β Mi Smart Band 3 β Setting up screens.
- π Data export: You can upload your activity history to Google Fit or Apple Health in Mi Fit.
- π Reset to factory settings: Press on the bracelet More β Settings β Reset (confirmation required).
Warning: Some features may not work on iPhones due to iOS restrictions, such as unlocking the phone and alerting calls are unstable.

8. Solving common problems
Even after you set it up properly, users are faced with typical problems, and here's how to solve them:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The bracelet does not vibrate when notified. | Vibration in settings or synchronization failure is disabled | Check notification settings in Mi Fit and reboot the bracelet |
| Misrepresentation of steps | Wearing a bracelet on the wrong hand or sensor failure | Wear on a non-dominant hand and reset data to Profile β Data reset |
| The bracelet is not synchronized. | Bluetooth Failure or Outdated Firmware | Restart your phone and bracelet, update your firmware |
| The screen doesn't respond to touch. | Sensor pollution or low charge | Wipe the screen with alcohol, charge the bracelet |
If the bracelet has stopped turning on:
- Connect to charging for 30 minutes (even if there is no indication).
- Press and hold the touch button for 15-20 seconds β sometimes it βrevivesβ the device.
- If it doesnβt help, reset your settings via Mi Fit (Profile β Delete the device, then add again).
If the bracelet is not working properly after updating the firmware:
β οΈ Warning: Firmware rollback on Mi Band 3 is not officially supported. If bugs appear after the update, try: 1. Reset the bracelet to factory settings. 2. Remove and re-add it to Mi Fit. 3. Wait for the next update (usually released within 1-2 months).
