Why donβt Mi Band 6 notifications work out of the box?
The Xiaomi Mi Band 6 fitness bracelet is one of the most popular activity tracking gadgets, but many users face a problem: after buying, notifications about calls and messages either do not come at all, or are duplicated or displayed with a delay.
In this article, weβll break down not only the basic alert settings, but also the hidden features that Xiaomi doesnβt advertise: how to filter out spam, adjust the vibration for different types of notifications, and why the bracelet sometimes βdeafensβ and stops showing messages.
Let's warn you right away: if you're using the Mi Band 6 on your iPhone, some of the features will be unavailable due to Apple's policies, but even then, we'll find workarounds!
Step 1: Connecting the bracelet to the phone and first synchronization
Before you set up notifications, you need to properly tie the bracelet to your smartphone, and many people miss this stage, and then wonder why the gadget does not respond to messages. Here is a step-by-step guide for Android and iOS:
- Download the app: π± For Android: Mi Fitness on Google Play π For iOS: Mi Fitness in the App Store
Register or enter.
Xiaomi
Turn on Bluetooth.
Add the device.
Profile β Add the device β Band β Mi Smart Band 6
β οΈ If the bracelet is not present, try it:
- π Reboot Bluetooth on your phone.
- π± Remove the bracelet from the list of conjugate devices in the phone settings and reconnect.
- π Charge the bracelet to 50% or higher (at low charge, synchronization may not work).

Bluetooth is on on the phone
Mi Fitness app updated to latest version
Notifications for Mi Fitness are allowed in phone settings
The device is added to the profile of Mi Fitness-->
Once successfully connected, the bracelet should appear in the main menu of the application. You can now move on to setting up notifications.
Step 2: Enable basic notifications (calls and SMS)
By default, the Mi Band 6 can only show incoming calls and SMS.
- Open the Mi Fitness app and select your bracelet at the top of the screen.
- Go to Notifications. β Management of notifications.
- Activate the switches: π Incoming calls (shows contact number or name). π¬ SMS (displays the text of the message and the sender).
β οΈ Note: On iPhone, call notifications must allow access to contacts in your phone settings (Settings) β Mi Fitness β Without it, the bracelet will only show numbers, not subscriber names.

If call notifications come with a delay, try turning off the power saving mode for the Mi Fitness app in your phone settings. On Android, this is done in Settings β Apps β Mi Fitness β Battery β No restrictions.
On Android, you can also set the vibration for different types of notifications:
- π The short vibration is for SMS.
- ππ Long vibration - for calls.
- π No vibration, unless you want the bracelet to twitch at night.
Step 3: Set up notifications from apps (WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber, etc.)
This is where the differences between Android and iOS begin, and on Android, you can set up notifications from almost any messenger, and on iPhone, you can set up notifications from standard apps (SMS, mail, calendar).
For Android:
- In Mi Fitness, go to Notifications β Notification Management β Application Notifications.
- Turn on the Application Notification switch.
- Click Select applications and tick the desired messengers (WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber, Gmail, etc.).
- Go back and adjust the display style: π Full text β shows the entire message (can crop long texts). π Title only β displays only the sender name and the app icon.
For iOS:
Due to limitations, the Apple Mi Band 6 on iPhone can only show notifications from:
- π Calls (incoming and missed).
- π¬ SMS (Standard Messages, without iMessage).
- β° Calendar (reminders of events).
- βοΈ Posts (only the standard appendix "Mail").
πΉ iOS workaround: If you're critically aware of WhatsApp or Telegram notifications, you can use the Notify for Mi Band app (available on the App Store) that redirects notifications through bypass servers, but requires constant back-up, draining your phone's battery on the App Store. 15-20% faster.

Step 4: Fine-tuning: Spam filtering and priority contacts
By default, the Mi Band 6 shows all notifications from selected apps, including spam and ads. To avoid this, you can configure filters:
- Contact blacklist: In Mi Fitness, go to Notifications β Blacklist. Add contact numbers or names that should not be displayed on the wristband.
- App whitelist (Android only): In Notifications β Notification management, disable all but the most important apps, allowing you to receive notifications only from instant messengers, ignoring games and social networks.
- Priority Contacts: In Notifications β Priority Notifications Add important contacts (e.g. family, work) The bracelet will vibrate longer and stronger when calls or messages are sent from them.
π Tip: If you receive a lot of notifications from groups in Telegram or WhatsApp, you can turn off alerts from groups separately. To do this, in the messenger settings, turn off notifications for specific chats - this will automatically hide them on the bracelet.
| Type of notification | Android | iOS | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calls. | β Full support | β Only incoming | iOS does not show missed calls |
| SMS | β Full text | β Only standard ones. SMS | iMessage is not supported |
| Messengers (WhatsApp, Telegram) | β Any applications | β No third-party apps | iOS requires Notify for Mi Band |
| Social media | β Facebook, VK, Instagram | β Not supported. | Android only shows notifications, no interactive |
| Post | β Any mail clients. | β Standard application only | Gmail on iOS is not supported |
Step 5: Address notification issues (not coming, duplicated, delayed)
If the notifications on Mi Band 6 are not working properly, check the following points:
- π Bracelet charge: at a level below 10%, notifications may not come.
- πΆ Phone distance: If you step back more than 10 meters, communication is cut off (even if Bluetooth is formally connected).
- π Reboot: Sometimes helps to reboot both the bracelet and the phone.
- π± Energy Saving: Turn off battery optimization for Mi Fitness on Android.
- π Permissions: Check that the app has access to notifications (phone settings) β Annexes β Mi Fitness β Notifications).
β οΈ Note: If notifications are duplicated (both on the phone and on the wristband), this is normal behavior. You can only disable duplication in the settings of a particular application (for example, in WhatsApp: Settings). β Notifications β Sound and vibration β Vibration at notifications, but this will turn off vibration on the phone.
What if the bracelet stops vibrating when notified?
πΉ Special case for iOS: If after the iOS update notifications stopped coming, try:
- Remove the Mi Fitness app and install it again.
- In the iPhone settings, go to Bluetooth, find the Mi Band 6 and forget the device, then repeat pairing.
- Disable and re-enable notifications for Mi Fitness in Settings β Notifications.
Step 6: Additional notification features (alarm clocks, events, weather)
In addition to messages and calls, the Mi Band 6 can also provide you with:
- β° Alarm clocks: You can set up one-time or repeated alarm clocks right in the Mi Fitness app (Device Profile) β The bracelet will vibrate even if the phone is turned off!
- π Calendar Events: Synced with Google Calendar or the standard iOS Calendar.
- π¦οΈ Weather: If you include the weather widget in Mi Fitness, the bracelet will show the forecast and alert you about precipitation.
- π Activity goals: When you reach your daily step norm, the bracelet vibrates and shows congratulations.
π Secret feature: Mi Band 6 has a hidden "Silent Alarm" mode, and if you turn it on in the alarm settings, the bracelet will vibrate gradually intensifying vibration for 10 seconds, not abruptly. This helps you wake up softer:
- In Mi Fitness, go to Device Profile β Alarms.
- Create a new alarm clock or edit an existing one.
- Activate the option Smooth wake up (some firmware called Smart alarm).

On Android, you can set up automatic notifications on the bracelet at certain times (e.g. at night). To do this, go to Notifications β Do Not Disturb and set a schedule.
