Whether you lost your headphones at home, in your car or at work, follow our recommendations and you will find them in 5-10 minutes, and if the device is not responding, we will tell you how to bring it back to life.
1. Search through the beep (works for all models with Mi Home)
The fastest way to find Xiaomi headphones in or near the case is to use the audible alert feature, which is available in all models that support connecting to the Mi Home app (e.g. Redmi AirDots 3 Pro, Xiaomi Buds 4 and later).
- Open the Mi Home app on your smartphone.
- Find your headphones in the list of devices (usually they show up as Mi True Wireless Earphones or similar).
- Slip on the headphone icon, then select Find the device or Sound signal.
- The headphones will start to make a loud squeak (even if they are in the case!).
πΉ Important: If the headphones are under 10%, the beep may not work, in which case, move on to the next way.
The Mi Home app is open.|Headphones connected to the account|Headphone charge level >10%|Bluetooth on your phone-->
If there is no Find the device button in the application, check:
- π² Update Mi Home to the latest version (Google Play or App Store).
- π Reconnect the headphones to the phone: press the button on the case for 5 seconds until the indicator flashes white.
- π Make sure your region in Mi Home is set as China or Global (some features are hidden to other regions).
2.How to find headphones if they are in the case, but do not respond to Mi Home
Sometimes the headphones are in the case, but the app doesn't see them.
- π The discharged battery of the case (less than 5%).
- π΅ Loss of connection between case and headphones (for example, after a fall).
- π οΈ Software failure (solved by resetting).
Here's what to do in this situation:
β οΈ Warning: If the case is discharged to 0%, plug it into charging for 10-15 minutes before trying to find the headphones. Without a minimum charge, no method will work.
Method 1: Forced inclusion of headphones
- Get both earphones out of the case.
- Press the touch panels on both headphones for 10-15 seconds until the red light flashes.
- Put the headphones back in the case and close the lid. In 5 seconds, pull them out again - they should automatically turn on and connect to the phone.
Method 2: Resetting headphones to factory settings
If the headphones are not determined by either the phone or the case, reset:
1. Place both headphones in the case.
2. Open the case lid.
3. Press the button on the back of the case for 20 seconds (until the indicator flashes red and white).
4 Close the lid, then open it again - the headphones will reset and be ready for a new synchronization. What if the headphones donβt connect after reset?
3. Search through Bluetooth Connection History (for Android)
If the headphones have recently been connected to a phone, they can be found through a Bluetooth device log, which works even without the Mi Home:
- Open Settings β Connections β Bluetooth.
- Find your Xiaomi headphones in the list and tap on the icon βοΈ (setting).
- Select Find or Last Location (available on Android 10+ phones).
- The system will show a map with the approximate location of the last connection.
πΉ Limitations of method:
- π Accuracy of the definition - up to 10 meters (not suitable for searching in a large room).
- β³ It only works if the headphones have been connected to the phone in the last 24 hours.
- π± On iPhone, this feature is missing β use Mi Home or Find My (if the headphones support Apple Find My Network, which is rare for Xiaomi).
π‘
If the headphones have connected to a laptop or tablet, check the history of Bluetooth on these devices too β sometimes they keep the last location more accurate than the phone.
4. Life hacks for finding headphones without apps
What if Mi Home isn't installed and the headphones aren't connected to the phone? Here are some non-obvious ways that will help in 80% of cases:
π¦ Use a flashlight.
Most Xiaomi headphones have a glossy surface that reflects light. Take a flashlight (or turn it on your phone) and highlight potential places where the headphones might roll:
- ποΈ Under the sofa or chair
- π In the gaps between the car seats
- π Under stacks of paper or books
- 𧦠In pockets of clothes or bags
π΅ Turn on the music at maximum volume
If the headphones are lying nearby and not discharged:
- Connect them to the phone (if possible).
- Start the song at maximum volume.
- Walk around the room and you will hear where the sound is coming from.
𧲠Magnet application (only for models with metal elements)
Xiaomi Buds 3 Pro and later headphones contain magnetic elements in the speakers. If you apply a powerful neodymium magnet to a potential location, the headphones can slightly "twistle" or emit a weak click. This method only works if the headphones are not in the case.
5.Table: Compatibility of search methods with popular models
| Model headphones | The sound signal in Mi Home | Searching for Bluetooth | Case-dumping | Support for Find My Device |

πΉ Note: For models marked βChinese firmware onlyβ (Xiaomi Buds 3 and later) you may need to change the region in Mi Home to China.
6 What to do if your headphones are lost outside the home
If you lose your headphones on the street, in public transport or in public, the chances of them returning depend on two factors:
- Charge level β if the headphones are discharged, they can not be tracked.
- Connect to Mi Home β without linking to the account search is impossible.
Steps taken:
- Open Mi Home and check the last known location (Device tab β [your headphones] β Location).
- If the headphones were connected to the phone at the time of loss, use the Find the device function β they will start beeping (if within a radius of 10-20 meters).
- Contact Xiaomi Support via the Mi Home chat β sometimes they can lock the headphones for a new connection (if they were tied to an account).
β οΈ Note: If headphones have been stolen, donβt try to track them yourself β pass on data about your headphones. MAC-address (can be found in Bluetooth settings) to the police. MAC-address looks like XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX and unique to each device.
7.How to prevent headphone loss in the future
To avoid looking for headphones all over the house, follow these tips:
- π·οΈ Name stickers: Buy waterproof stickers and write your phone or email on them. If the headphones get lost, an honest person can find you.
- π Key binding: Use a case strap and hold it to a key bundle (e.g., a carbine from Xiaomi).
- π² Disconnect Notifications: In Mi Home, enable Notify if you lose communication (available for Xiaomi Buds 4 and later).
- π¨ Bright Case: Buy a case of contrasting color (e.g. neon blue) so that the case does not get lost in the bag.
πΉ Bonus: for models Xiaomi Buds 3 Pro and newer in Mi Home has a function Anti-Loss β headphones will beep if you move away from the phone further than 10 meters.
π‘
The most reliable way not to lose headphones is to tie the case to the item you always wear (keys, belt, bag).
