Losing the Xiaomi Mi Band is easier than it sounds: it slips off your hand easily during workouts, stays on a table in a cafe or gets lost in a bag among other things. Fortunately, the manufacturer has provided several ways to track the device, from built-in features in a proprietary app to third-party services. In this article, we will analyze all working methods of search, including little-known techniques for models Mi Band 3/4/5/6/7/8 and Smart Band Pro.
It's important to understand that search capabilities depend on the firmware version, the bracelet model, and the smartphone settings. For example, the Mi Band 8 with GPS can show the last known location, whereas the Mi Band 4 is limited to just the audio signal. We structured the performance instructions, from simple to advanced, so you can quickly navigate the situation.
1. Search through the sound signal in the Mi Fitness app
The fastest way to find the bracelet is if it is within Bluetooth range (usually up to 10 meters), a feature available for all Mi Band models starting with the third version.
- Open the Mi Fitness app (formerly Mi Fit) on your smartphone.
- Go to Profile β My devices tab and select your bracelet.
- Slip on the icon Find the device (bell icon or speaker).
- The bracelet will emit a loud sound signal lasting 1-2 minutes.
If you can't hear the sound, check:
- π Volume on the bracelet (in some models it can be adjusted through Settings) β Sound).
- π± Bluetooth connection (reset the module on the phone if the bracelet does not appear in the list of devices).
- π Charge level (at a discharge below 5%, the sound signal may not work).
π‘
If the bracelet is under the pillow or in the bag, apply the ear to the surface - vibration of the motor will help to more accurately determine the location.
Limitation: This method only works when you are actively connected to your smartphone, and if the bracelet is disconnected (for example, due to battery discharge), the sound will not sound.
2. Location history check (for Mi Band with GPS)
Mi Band 7 Pro and Mi Band 8 models are equipped with built-in GPS-If you lose the bracelet on the street, you can try to retrieve its last location:
- In the Mi Fitness app, go to Profile β My devices β [Your bracelet] β Activity history.
- Select the last entry with GPS-track (for example, a jog or a bicycle walk).
- Open the map β the last point of the route will indicate the approximate place of loss.
For models without GPS (for example, Mi Band 6), this method is not suitable, but you can use the geodata of the smartphone:
- π Check your location history in Google Maps (Chronology tab). If the bracelet has recently been disabled, the last link to your phone may indicate the area of loss.
- π On the iPhone, the same function is performed by the Find iPhone application (if the bracelet was connected to iOS).
Important: GPS in the Mi Band is only activated while recording activity, and if the bracelet was just in the bag, it's not tracked.
3. Use the "Find Device" function in Mi Account
If the bracelet is linked to a Xiaomi Account, you can try to find it through the web version of the service, which works for most devices in the ecosystem, but with the caveats:
- Go to account.xiaomi.com and log in.
- In the Devices section, find your bracelet (if it appears in the list).
- Click Find the device - the system will try to send a command to play the sound.
There are nuances to this method:
- β οΈ The bracelet must be online (connected to the Internet via smartphone or Wi-Fi in models with support).
- π The feature may not work if the device has not synced with Xiaomi servers for a long time.
- π± On some firmware, the option is only available for smartphones and tablets.
Why is the bracelet not displayed in the Mi Account?
4. Search through third-party apps (Android)
If standard methods donβt work, you can use third-party tools to search for Bluetooth devices, such as the Bluetooth Scanner app or Find My Device (not to be confused with Google!).
- Install one of the apps from Google Play (e.g. Bluetooth Finder).
- Start scanning the nearest devices.
- In the list of gadgets found, look for the name of your bracelet (usually Mi Band X or the name of the band). MIBAND_X).
- When detected, the app will show the signal level (RSSI) β the higher it is, the closer the bracelet is.
Advantages of the method:
- π It works even if the bracelet is disconnected from the Mi Fitness.
- π Shows the approximate distance to the device (with an error of 1-3 meters).
Disadvantages:
- β Requires Bluetooth enabled on your smartphone and bracelet charge.
- β οΈ In crowded places (shopping centers, offices) can be found many strangers Mi Band.
Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone
Close all background applications (they may interfere with scanning)
Make sure the bracelet is not in "Do Not Disturb" mode
Check the signal in different rooms (Bluetooth does not pass through walls)-->
5. Physical Search: Where to Look First
If technical methods don't work, then you can start a manual search. Statistics show that 70% of Xiaomi bracelets are within 50 meters of their last use.
| Place. | Why here? | Search tips |
|---|---|---|
| Bed/sofa | The bracelet is often removed at night or during rest. | Check under the pillow, between the mattress and back. |
| Bathroom | Many people take off their gadget in front of the shower or pool. | Look on the shelf, near the sink or in the laundry basket. |
| Sports bag/backpack | The bracelet was probably left after training. | Shake the contents of your pockets, check the bottom of the bag. |
| Desktop/office | Could have stayed after charging or synchronizing data. | Look near the outlets, under the documents, in the drawers of the table. |
| The machine. | The bracelet falls out of your pocket or bag. | Check under the seats, in the glove compartment, on the back shelf. |
Unusual places where Mi Band was found:
- 𧦠In the washing machine (if you forgot to take off before washing clothes).
- π In a bowl with pet food (bracelet could fall during feeding).
- π Under the mat in the car (fall and rolled).
β οΈ If the bracelet is lost outside in winter, look for it near garbage cans or under benches - there is often raking snow along with lost things.
6 What to do if the bracelet is stolen
Unfortunately, the Mi Band is a popular target for thieves because of its low price and high demand.
- Untie your device from your account: In Mi Fitness, go to Profile β My Devices. Select a bracelet and click Delete Device. This will block access to health data and notifications.
- Check the sales in the secondary market: π Go to Avito, Yulu, or local social media groups, and look for the Xiaomi Bracelet filter, sorted by date, and compare the serial number (if the box is still there).
- Contact the police (if there is evidence of theft): π Provide a check, a box with a serial number and screenshots from Mi Fitness. π List the last known location (from activity history).
Is it possible to track a thief? Technically not. The Mi Band doesn't transmit real-time location data, and the serial number isn't tied to IMEI (like smartphones), but if a thief plugs the bracelet into his Xiaomi account, it's theoretically possible to try to restore access through support (but that's unlikely).

If the bracelet is stolen, the key is to untie it immediately from your account, which will prevent access to your health data and notifications.
7 How to Prevent Bracelet Loss in the Future
To avoid the problem of finding Mi Band, use these tips:
- π Use a lock strap: Standard silicone strap is easy to unbutton. Buy a metal strap (e.g. Mi Band 8 Pro Leather Strap).
- π² Set up connection break notifications: Mi Fitness β Profile β My devices. β [Your bracelet] β Notifications β The phone will vibrate if the bracelet is out of range of Bluetooth.
- π·οΈ Plug in contact information: Stick a small sticker with a phone number on the inside of the strap (in case an honest person finds the bracelet).
- π Watch the charge: The discharged bracelet is no sound. Charge it at a level below 20%.
For models with NFC (e.g. Mi Band 7 NFC):
- π³ Set up payment via Mi Pay β this will increase the chances that the finder will try to return it (because without your account, the payment will not work).
β οΈ Note: Do not use the bracelet to store important data (for example, passwords in notes). If you lose them, you can read them through any device after resetting your settings.
