Xiaomi smartwatches are not just an accessory, but a full-fledged gadget that should work like a Swiss chronometer. But what if the time on the screen is lost after updating, resetting or simply showing incorrect data? In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to change the time on the Mi Band, Amazfit, Redmi Watch and other models, from automatic synchronization to manual adjustment through the application.
The problem of wrong timing is more common than it seems: after a battery change, when a time zone changes, or even because of a Bluetooth malfunction, we will not only show you how to fix this in 2 minutes, but also explain why a watch can "lie" and how to prevent similar errors in the future. And if you are faced with a screen freeze or a constant time reset, at the end of this article there is a section with solutions to the most common bugs.
Why is Xiaomiβs Watch the Wrong Time?
Before you change your settings, it's important to understand the root of the problem, and 90 percent of the time you're wrong isn't a breakdown, it's a consequence of one of these factors:
- π No sync with your phone. Xiaomi watches take time from your smartphone by default via the Mi Fitness or Zepp Life app. If communication is interrupted, the data is not updated.
- β±οΈ Manual time mode. In some models (e.g. Amazfit) GTR (4) there is an option to disable automatic synchronization.
- π The wrong time zone. The clock can tell Moscow time when you're in Vladivostok -- especially after the flights.
- π Failure after firmware update.Updates MIUI or firmware for watches sometimes reset settings.
- π± Phone problems: If your smartphone has a time loss (for example, after replacing the battery), the watch will carry this error.
Less often, hardware malfunctions, like an RTC (real time) module failure or a fall-in damage, can only be blamed on a service center, but 99 percent of the time, the problem is solved by software, and we'll show you how.
Method 1: Automatic synchronization through the application
The simplest and most recommended method is to make the watch take time from a smartphone.
- Make sure your phone is Bluetooth enabled and your watch is connected to it.
- Open the app: Mi Band - Mi Fitness (or Xiaomi Wear for new models); Amazfit - Zepp Life (formerly Mi Fit); Redmi Watch - Xiaomi Wear Lite.
Device Profile β Settings β Time and Date
Autosynchronization of time
Getting time off the phone
After that, the clock should update the time for 1-2 minutes.
Reset the clock (click the 10 seconds button)
Turn off/on Bluetooth on your phone
Update to Mi Fitness/Zepp Life
Reconnect the clock to the phone-->
β οΈ Note: Some models (e.g. Xiaomi Watch) S2) Automatic synchronization only works when you're on your phone, and if you're on a plane or subway, you don't have to update your time.
Method 2: Manually adjusting time (if the automation is not working)
If your watch doesnβt sync with your phone or you want to set the time manually (for example, to test alarm clocks), do the following:
- On the watch itself: Scroll to the right to the Settings menu (cog icon). Select System β Time and Date. Turn off Auto Update (if any) Manually set the time zone, time format (12/24 hours) and current values.
- Through the app (for non-touch screen models, such as Mi Band 6): In Mi Fitness, go to Profile β Device Settings β Additional β Time. Select Manual Install and enter current data.
Important: On a non-display watch (e.g. Mi Band 1-4), manual time setting is not possible β only through the app.
| Model clock | Support for manual setup | The way is on the menu |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Band 7/8 | Yes (through the screen) | Settings β System β Time |
| Redmi Watch 3 | Yes (screen + app) | Settings β Additional β Date and time |
| Amazfit GTR 4 | Yes (only through the screen) | Settings β System β Time and Date |
| Mi Band 5 | No (only autosynchronization) | β |

If you manually set the time again, try resetting the clock to factory settings via Settings β System β Reset. This will help with software failures.
Method 3: Resetting the time zone on the phone
Sometimes the problem isn't with the watch, it's with the smartphone, and if the phone's time zone is not configured correctly or the Automatic Time setting option is disabled, the watch will copy the error to fix:
- On Android: Go to Settings β System β Date and Time. Activate Automatic Date and Time and Automatic Time Zone. If the options are already on, turn them off, restart the phone, then turn them on again.
- On iPhone: Open Settings β Basic β Date and time. Turn on Automatically.
Then reconnect the clock to your phone via Bluetooth and wait for the sync. If the clock time has not changed for 5 minutes, move to the next method.
What to do if the automatic time zone does not work?
Method 4: Update the firmware of the watch
If time is lost regularly, the fault may be outdated firmware, the manufacturer often fixes synchronized bugs in new versions of the software, to update the watch:
- Open the Mi Fitness/Zepp Life app.
- Go to the Device Profile β Update the firmware.
- If a new version is available, click Update and wait until it is completed (donβt disconnect the watch from your phone!).
The process can take up to 10 minutes.
- π Reset the clock (press the button for 10-15 seconds).
- π± Reconnect them to the phone.
- β³ Wait for automatic time synchronization (usually takes 1-2 minutes).
β οΈ Warning: Do not interrupt the upgrade process, this can lead to a breeze of hours.+ Try restarting your phone and watch, then repeat the procedure.

Updating the firmware not only solves problems with time, but also improves the performance of sensors, increases the autonomy time and corrects synchronization errors with applications.
Method 5: Reset to factory settings
If none of these methods worked, the last chance is a complete reset, which will delete all the data from the clock (steps, alarm settings, training profiles), but often solves software failures.
- On the watch: For Mi Band 7/8, Redmi Watch: Settings β System β Reset. For Amazfit: Settings β System β Reset and Reset β Reset.
- In the app: In Mi Fitness: Profile β Untie the device, then reconnect the watch.
After discharge:
- π The clock will reboot and show the welcome screen.
- π± Connect them to the phone via the app.
- β° Time should be synchronized automatically.
If even after the reset time is lost, the problem may be in the hardware (for example, a dead battery or a damaged time module).
Frequent mistakes and their solutions
Letβs look at typical situations when time on the clock behaves inadequately, and what to do about it.
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Time is lost after disconnecting from the phone | The watch does not save time without synchronization (weak battery) | Replace the battery or enable automatic synchronization |
| The clock shows the time 3-4 hours ahead / back | Wrong time zone on the phone | Set up a time zone on your smartphone (see Method 3) |
| Time is updated only after resetting | Failure in the operation of the Bluetooth module | Update the firmware of the watch and reinstall the app |
| The clock shows 00:00 after charging | Resetting settings due to deep discharge | Connect to the phone for synchronization |
If your problem is not described in the table, check:
- π Charge of the clock: At levels below 10%, some functions (including time synchronization) are turned off.
- πΆ Bluetooth signal strength. If the communication is unstable, the data can be transmitted with errors.
- π The outdated Mi Fitness may not work properly with the new watch.
