Why Xiaomi Headphones Stop Working Together
Xiaomi wireless headphones are a popular solution for music lovers, but even they sometimes fail. One of the most common problems is that one headphone connects to the phone, and the second one is silent or not synchronized. The reasons can be different, from a trivial discharge to a firmware failure. In this article, we will analyze all possible scenarios and give specific instructions for each model: Mi True Wireless 2/3, Redmi Buds 3/4 Pro, Xiaomi Buds 4 and others.
Before you take the device to the service center, try to diagnose the problem yourself. 80 percent of the time, you can solve it without a specialist — just reset, update the firmware or properly charge the case. We put together 7 proven methods that work even for older models. And if none of them worked, there's a checklist at the end of this article to call for Xiaomi support.
Important: some actions (for example, resetting to factory settings) will lead to the loss of the associated devices. Prepare a list of gadgets that the headphones connected to, so that you can quickly restore the connection.
1. Checking basic parameters: charging and physical damage
Start with the obvious — make sure that the problem is not a discharged battery or mechanical damage. Often users forget to charge the case or one of the headphones, which causes the synchronization to be disrupted.
- 🔋 Check the charge level of the case and headphones: place both earphones in the case for 10-15 seconds. If the indicator on the case does not burn or flashes red, the devices are discharged. Connect the case to charging for 30 minutes, then try again to connect.
- 🔍 Look at the contacts: dirt or oxidation on metal contacts (both on headphones and inside the case) can block charging and synchronization.
- 🎧 Check physical integrity: if one of the headphones fell or got wet, there could be a short circuit inside.
If the headphones don't connect to each other after charging, move on to the next step. Pay special attention to the Redmi Buds 3 Pro model, which often has setups that go wrong after the case has been completely discharged.
2. Resetting headphones to factory settings
The most effective way to get back up is hard reset, which clears all the settings you've saved, including the list of conjugated devices, and returns the headphones to a "out of the box" state, and the instructions vary depending on the model:
- 🔄 For Mi True Wireless 2/3 and Redmi Buds. 3/4: Place both earbuds in the case. Press and hold the button on the case (usually located at the back) for a period of time. 10–15 So let the light flash red and white, release the button, reset complete.
Xiaomi Buds 4
- Get the headphones out of the case.
- Press the touch panels on both headphones simultaneously for 10 seconds until you hear the beep.
- Place the headphones back in the case - they will automatically reboot.
After reset, the headphones should automatically sync with each other. If this does not happen, try connecting them manually to the phone via Settings → Bluetooth, sometimes you need to remove the old device from the list of conjugated and add again.
☑️ Preparation for earphone drop
⚠️ Note: After reset, Xiaomi headphones may temporarily lose the automatic connection function to the last device. To restore it, connect the headphones to the phone manually 2-3 times in a row.
3. Update firmware via Mi Fit or Xiaomi Wear
If the headphones don't sync after reset, the problem could be with outdated firmware. Xiaomi regularly releases updates to fix bugs, including connection errors.
- Install the official application: For old models (Mi True Wireless 2) - Mi Fit. For new ones (Redmi Buds 4 Pro, Xiaomi Buds 4) - Xiaomi Wear.
Connect the headphones to the phone via Bluetooth.
Firmware
Update of the PO
Don't turn off the headphones.
After updating the firmware, the headphones will automatically restart and should sync. If there are no updates or the process is stalled, try repeating it later or use an alternative method (see section 5).
| Model headphones | Annex for updating | Minimum firmware version for stable operation |
|---|---|---|
| Mi True Wireless 2 | Mi Fit | 1.4.0.8 |
| Redmi Buds 3 Pro | Xiaomi Wear | 1.7.1.0 |
| Xiaomi Buds 4 | Xiaomi Wear | 2.0.0.4 |
| Redmi Buds 4 Lite | Xiaomi Wear | 1.2.0.3 |
💡
If the Xiaomi Wear app doesn't see the headphones, try turning off Bluetooth, rebooting your phone, and reconnecting your headphones. Sometimes cleaning the app's cache in your phone's settings helps.
4. Bluetooth problems on your phone or PC
Sometimes the problem isn't with the headphones, but with the device you're trying to connect them to, like a Bluetooth phone malfunction or a conflict with other connected devices.
Here's what we can do:
- 📱 Reboot Bluetooth on your phone: Open Settings → Connections → Bluetooth. Turn off Bluetooth, wait 10 seconds and turn it on again. Remove the headphones from the list of associated devices and reconnect.
For PC (Windows 10/11)
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Find the Bluetooth partition, right-click on your adapter and select Update driver.
- If the update doesn’t work, remove the device and restart the computer.
- 🔄 Reset network settings (Android): Settings → System system → Reset → Reset Wi-Fi, mobile network and Bluetooth Warning: This will remove all saved networks and associated devices.
- 🖥️ PC firmware (advanced method): For Redmi Buds 3 Pro and later, you can use the QFlash Tool utility (official tool from Qualcomm). Instruction: 1. Download the QFlash Tool and firmware for your model from the forum 4PDA. 2. Connect the case with headphones to the PC through USB (3. Launch the utility and follow the instructions. Attention: the wrong firmware can cause the headphones to fail!
These methods should be used only if all other methods have been exhausted, and if you are not sure about your actions, you should contact the service center.
⚠️ Note: Firmware through third-party utilities (not official) may result in a loss of warranty.Be sure to download the correct firmware version for your model before you start!
6. When to contact the service center?
If none of these methods worked, it's probably a hardware problem, and here are some signs that the headphones need professional repair:
- 🔌 One of the headphones does not charge at all (the indicator does not burn even after cleaning the contacts).
- 🔊 In the headphone, extraneous noises (crackling, squeaking) are heard or the sound is completely absent.
- 💥 Headphones overheat during charging or use.
- 🔋 The case does not hold the charge (discharges in a few hours without using it).
The cost of repair depends on the model and breakdown. For example, replacing the battery in Redmi Buds 3 will cost 800-1500 rubles, and replacing the Bluetooth module - in 2000-3,000 rubles. If headphones are older than 2-3 years, sometimes it is cheaper to buy new ones.
💡
Before contacting the service, check whether your model is covered by an extended warranty (for example, the Xiaomi Care program), which can save up to 50% of the cost of repairs.
7 Prevention: How to avoid problems in the future
To make Xiaomi headphones last longer and do not lose synchronization, follow the simple rules:
- 🔋 Charge the case regularly, do not allow full discharge (especially critical for the Redmi Buds 4 Pro).
- 🧼 Clean contacts once every 1-2 months with a cotton swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol.
- 📱 Update your firmware through Xiaomi Wear when notifications appear.
- 🌡️ Avoid overheating and moisture: Do not leave headphones in direct sunlight or in the bathroom.
- 🔄 Reset your settings periodically (every 6 months) to avoid the accumulation of errors.
