Xiaomi Mijia (LYWSD03MMC or LYWSD02) is a compact device that combines wall clock, thermometer and hygrometer functions to transfer data to the Mi Home ecosystem. Despite the simplicity of the design, many users face difficulties when first connecting: the device is not detected in the application, shows an incorrect temperature or refuses to synchronize after reset. In this article, we will discuss all the stages of settings β from unpacking to fine calibrating of sensors, and also consider the typical errors.
The peculiarity of this watch is that it is based on the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocol and requires binding to the Xiaomi Gateway (for example, Aqara Hub) or direct connection to the smartphone via Mi Home. Without this, the device will only show the time and temperature locally, but will not be able to transfer data to the cloud or participate in smart home scenarios. If you just purchased the Mijia Clock Thermometer, start by checking the equipment configuration and preparation.
Compilation and preparation for setup
The standard set of Xiaomi Mijia LYWSD03MMC includes:
- π¦ The device itself (clock-thermometer with display)
- π Battery CR2032 (sometimes already installed)
- π Brief instruction in Chinese
- 𧲠Adhesive tape for wall attachment
- π§ Battery replacement screwdriver (not always)
Before you start setting up, make sure you have:
- π± Smartphone with Mi Home app installed (version no lower than 6.0.100)
- π Stable Internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile network)
- π Gateway Xiaomi/Aqara Gateway (optional but recommended for full operation)
- π Spare battery CR2032 (in case of discharge)
If you plan to use a watch without a gateway, consider that only basic functions will be available: displaying time, temperature and humidity on the screen. For remote monitoring, integration with Google Assistant or Alice, as well as for participation in automatic scenarios (for example, turning on the heater when the temperature drops), the gateway is mandatory.
Battery installation and first start
The Mijia watch goes on sale with a battery-operated transport film installed, and if the device doesn't respond to the pressing, the first thing you do is remove the battery and remove the film.
- Turn the clock upside down.
- Carefully put a screwdriver or nail cover of the battery compartment (it clicks).
- Remove the CR2032 battery and remove the protective film.
- Install the battery back, observing polarity (+ up).
- Close the lid before you click.
Once the battery is installed, the watch should automatically turn on, the load animation will appear on the screen, then the current time (by default 00:00) and temperature/humidity readings.
- π Check the polarity of the battery.
- π Try restarting the device by briefly retrieving and inserting the battery.
- π¦ Make sure the battery contacts are not oxidized.

If the clock after installing the battery shows an incorrect time, do not rush to adjust it. First connect to Mi Home - time is synchronized automatically from the Internet.
Connection to the Mi Home app
To make your watch work properly, you need to add it to the Mi Home app, which may vary depending on your account region. Weβll look at the Universal Method for Europe, but if you have another region (e.g. China or Russia), you may need to change it in your profile settings.
Step-by-step:
- Open the Mi Home app and log in.
- Press + in the upper right corner β Add the device.
- In the search bar, type LYWSD03MMC or select Sensors β Thermogyrometer.
- Click Add and follow the instructions on the screen.
- When the app asks, press and hold the button on the back of the watch (about 5 seconds) until you hear the beep.
- Wait until the synchronization is complete (it can take up to 2 minutes).
If the device is not located:
- π± Make sure your smartphone is Bluetooth enabled and geolocated.
- π Reboot the Mi Home app and try again.
- π Check your account region: go to Profile β Settings β Region and select Europe.
- π Try replacing the battery (sometimes the battery is out of sync).
Install CR2032 | Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone |Authorize in Mi Home|Select Europe|Region Press the reset button on your watch-->
Time setting and synchronization
By default, the Mijia watch shows the time received from the gateway or smartphone during the last synchronization. If time is lost or lagged, follow the following steps:
Methods of time synchronization:
| Method | Conditions | How to execute |
|---|---|---|
| Through the lock. | Watches tied to Xiaomi Gateway | Time is automatically updated every 10 minutes. |
| Through Mi Home. | Direct connection to the smartphone | Open the device card β Settings β Synchronize the time |
| Hand-mounted | Unconnected to Mi Home | Press the button on the back 3 times in a row β set the time with the +/- buttons |
If the clock clock is more than once a day, check:
- π Battery charge (lower than 2.8V may fail).
- πΆ Quality of communication with the gateway (distance not exceeding 10 meters, without obstacles).
- π± Gateway firmware version (update via Mi Home β Devices β Gateway β Update).
What if the clock is in a 12-hour format?
Calibration of temperature and humidity sensors
Xiaomi Mijia sensors can show values with an error of up to Β±1Β°C and Β±5% humidity. To accurately adjust, you will need a reference thermometer (for example, mercury or electronic with proven accuracy).
Calibration instructions:
- Place the watch next to the reference thermometer for 30 minutes (in the same temperature zone).
- Open the device card in Mi Home β Settings β Calibration.
- Compare the readings and enter an amendment (for example, if Mijia shows 22Β°C and the reference is 23Β°C, enter +1).
- Save the settings and wait for synchronization (up to 5 minutes).
Important: Calibration is reset when:
- π Remove the battery for more than 10 minutes.
- π± Reconnect the device to Mi Home.
- π§ Updates to the lock firmware.
π‘
Calibration of sensors is recommended at a stable temperature (for example, in the morning, before turning on the heating or air conditioning).
Integration with smart home and scenarios
Mijiaβs thermometer watches can participate in automatic scripting via Mi Home or Aqara Home, for example, you can customize:
- π₯ Automatic heater switching on if temperature has dropped below 20Β°C.
- π§ Smartphone alert when 70% humidity is exceeded (mold risk).
- π¬οΈ Fan activation at a temperature above 28Β°C.
To create a script:
- In Mi Home, go to Automation β Create a script.
- Select the condition: Temperature or Humidity from your watch.
- Set a threshold value and action (e.g., Turn on the socket).
- Save the script and activate it.
Limitations:
- π« Without the gateway, scripts won't work.
- π Runtime can be as long as 1-2 minutes (depending on Xiaomi server load).
- π± In one scenario, only one condition per clock (e.g., only temperature or only humidity) can be used.
Typical problems and their solutions
Even after successful setup, users are faced with common errors, and we've collected the most common cases and ways to fix them:
Problem 1: The watch doesnβt show up in Mi Home after resetting
β οΈ Warning: If you reset your watch with a button on the back and the app can't see it, try removing the device from the list in Mi Home (even if it appears to be disabled), then add it again. Sometimes ghost recordings interfere with reconnection.
Problem 2: Temperatures jump or overestimate
- π₯ Check if the watch is near heat sources (battery, cooker stove, direct sunlight).
- π Compare the readings to another thermometer β calibration may be required.
- π Replace the battery: At low charge, sensors may give out incorrect data.
Problem 3: The clock is not synchronized with the gateway
- πΆ Make sure the distance between the clock and the gateway is not more than 10 meters (no thick walls).
- π Reboot the gateway (turn off power for 30 seconds).
- π± Update the gateway firmware via Mi Home.
Problem 4: The clock time is not updated
β οΈ Warning: If the clock is connected to the gateway but the time is still in place, check the time zone settings in the Mi Home profile. Sometimes after app updates, the palm belt is reset to UTC+0.
