Buyers of Xiaomi equipment often face a problem: the device comes with a Chinese, English or other foreign interface. Even if you purchased a gadget in an official store, sometimes the default language may differ from the expected. You can translate Xiaomi into Russian in several ways, from basic settings to flashing the system. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods for smartphones, tablets, TVs and Mi/Redmi/POCO smart watches.
It is important to understand that not all devices support Russian out of the box, for example, some models for the Chinese market (China ROM) require additional manipulation, while global versions (Global ROM) usually have a lot of language package by default, we will discuss solutions for both cases, and also explain how to avoid common errors when changing the language.
If you've never changed your system settings on Xiaomi before, don't worry, most methods don't require technical skills. However, some devices (especially those released before 2020) may need custom firmware installation.
1. Standard language change in settings (for Global ROM)
The easiest way is to use the built-in system options, which is suitable for most Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones with Global ROM. If your device supports Russian but it is not activated, follow this instruction:
Open the Settings app. At the top of the screen, find the search bar and type in the language or language. The system automatically tells you the desired section. Alternative path:
Settings β Additional settings β Language and input β LanguageIn the list of available languages, find Russian (Russia) or Russian (Ukraine) β depending on the region of the firmware. If Russian is not on the list, then your version of MIUI does not support it out of the box.
Check the version of MIUI in Settings β About the phone
Connect to Wi-Fi to download language packs
Charge the device at least 50%
Make a backup copy of important data-->
Once you have selected a language, the system will suggest restarting the device, and you have to agree that this is necessary to apply the changes correctly. Please note that some devices (such as the POCO F3 or Redmi Note 10 Pro) may reset regional settings (date format, keyboard) after changing the language, and can be easily restored manually in the same language and input section.
2. Installation of the language package via MIUI bootloader
If you don't have Russian in your settings, but your device supports Global ROM, you can try to manually install the language package, which works for most models released after 2018.
- π± Xiaomi smartphone with Internet access
- π Battery charge of at least 30%
- π Annex MIUI bootloader (you can download from Google Play)
Launch MIUI bootloader and go to Language Packages. Search Russian (Russia) and click Download. Once downloaded, the system will prompt you to install the package, confirm the action. The device will restart, and the settings will appear Russian.

Note: Some devices (e.g. Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra) may need to reset to factory settings after installing the language package. This is due to the peculiarities of MIUI 13+. Save important data in advance!
If MIUI bootloader doesnβt find the right package, try an alternative method: download the.mtz file with Russian for your model from the Xiaomi.eu forum and install it through Topics β Local. The themes installation instructions are suitable for language packages as well.
3. Translation of Chinese firmware (China ROM) into Russian
Devices designed for the Chinese market (China ROM) often do not have Russian in principle, in which case there are two options: install global firmware or use PatchROM (a modified version of MIUI with support for multiple languages).
The first is the official one, but it requires unlocking the bootloader. The second is semi-official, but easier to implement. Let's look at both in detail.
| Method | Difficulty | Do you need to unlock the bootloader? | Is there a guarantee? | Supported models |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Installation of Global ROM | ββββ | Yes. | No. | All models except the newest (2023-2026) |
| PatchROM (xiaomi.eu) | βββ | Yes. | No. | Most of the models 2018-2023. |
| Language mod (Magisk) | ββ | Yeah (root needed) | No. | Devices with support for Magisk |
To install the Global ROM, follow the official instructions from Xiaomi:
- Unlock the bootloader through the Mi Unlock Tool (it may take 7-15 days to wait).
- Download the firmware for your model from the MIUI Download website.
- Install it via Fastboot or Recovery (instructions are available on 4PDA).

Note: Installing unofficial firmware may result in loss of NFC, camera or sensor functionality on some models (e.g. Xiaomi 12S Ultra or Redmi K50 Pro).
The alternative is PatchROM from Xiaomi.eu. This is a modified version. MIUI supportive 30+ The installation is similar to the official firmware, but does not require waiting for unlocking (it is enough to unlock the bootloader once). OTA-Updates (you will need to install new versions manually).

4. Russification via Magisk (for advanced users)
If you donβt want to change the firmware, but you have root access, you can install Russian through the Magisk module. This method is suitable for devices with an unlocked bootloader and installed Magisk Manager.
Download the MIUI Russian Language Pack module from the Magisk repository or 4PDA forum. Install it via Magisk Manager and restart the device. Russian will appear in the settings.
Advantages of the method:
- π It doesn't require a complete reflashing.
- π Stores all data on the device
- π It's easy to roll back change
Disadvantages:
- π« Requires root (lost warranty, possible problems with banking applications)
- π You need to update the module manually when the new version is released. MIUI
If after installing the module, some applications (such as Theme or Security) are left in Chinese, try clearing their cache in Settings β Applications β Application Management.

Before installing the Magisk module, backup the system via TWRP or OrangeFox Recovery, which will help restore the system if something goes wrong.
5. Translation of the interface Xiaomi TV and Mi Box
Smart TVs Xiaomi Mi TV and Mi Box can also come with a foreign interface.
On Xiaomi TV (Mi TV 4A, Mi TV 5, Mi TV Q1, etc.) the way to set up the language is as follows:
Settings (cogs) β Device β Preferences β LanguageIf Russian is not on the list, try updating the firmware through:
Settings β About TV β System UpdateFor the Mi Box S or Mi Box 4K, the instruction is similar, but the path to languages may differ:
Settings β Preferences β Language & input β Languageβ οΈ
Note: Some Xiaomi TVs for the Chinese market (Mi) TV 4C 32" 2018, etc.) Russian is not available even after the update, in which case only reflashing on Global will help. ROM through USB-The storage device (see instructions for the 4PDA).
If some features (such as Google Assistant or Chromecast) are missing after changing the language, go back to English and check the regional settings in Settings β Device β Date and Time β Region.
6.Russification of Xiaomi smart watches and fitness bracelets
Xiaomi Watch, Amazfit (owned by Xiaomi) and Mi Band fitness bracelets usually support Russian, but sometimes it may not be in the settings.
For the Mi Band 5/6/7 and Xiaomi Watch S1:
- Open the Mi Fitness or Zepp app on your smartphone.
- Go to Profile β My Devices β Device Settings β Language.
- Select Russian and synchronize the data.
If you don't have Russian on the list, update the watch firmware through the same app.

Settings of the clock β System β Resetting settingsAfter reset, re-attach the watch via Zepp and select Russian at the setup stage.
What if the clock freezes after resetting?
7. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
When russifying Xiaomi devices, users often face typical problems, and here are the most common ones and ways to solve them:
- π΄ Error "Can't install this package" when installing the language package β Check the version. MIUI and download the package corresponding to your firmware (for example, for MIUI 14 doesn't fit the package from MIUI 12).
- π΄ After the change of language, some applications remained in Chinese. β Clear the cache of these applications in Settings β Applications or reinstall them.
- π΄ Xiaomi TV does not see the firmware file on the flash drive β Format. USB-storage FAT32 and rename the firmware file to update.zip.
- π΄ On the Amazfit watches there is Russian, but notifications come in English. β Check the language in the notification settings in the Zepp app.
Another common problem is the loss of communication with Xiaomi servers after changing region, which happens if you manually change the region of the device to Russia or Ukraine in the settings.
Settings β Additional settings β Region β Select βIndiaβ or βSingaporeβAfter that, features like Mi Cloud or Theme will work again.
