Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco smartphone owners often face intrusive voice alerts such as “Talk Recording Begins” and “Talk Recording Ends” introduced by the developers of MIUI and the new HyperOS shell to comply with personal data laws, but for many users, it becomes a source of irritation, especially in quiet places or when making business calls.
Unfortunately, standard methods of the system do not completely disable this voice assistant, as it is integrated into the system layer of the application, but there are proven ways to bypass this limitation, allowing you to record dialogues without attracting the attention of the interlocutor or others.
In this article, we will discuss in detail current methods of solving the problem, including the use of third-party applications, changing the region and installing modified versions of system software.
Why Xiaomi and Google are blocking the silent recording
The issue of loud notification didn’t come out of nowhere: Google’s security policies for Android 9 and higher severely restricted apps’ access to the microphone during a call, and this was done to protect users’ privacy from spyware.
Xiaomi has implemented a mandatory voice warning in its stock firmware, following these rules, and even if you re-flash the phone to the global version, this feature will remain, as it is part of the system application, not just a customization of the interface.
Many users mistakenly believe that changing the region will solve the problem. Indeed, in some countries (for example, India or Indonesia), recording conversations was initially banned or restricted, but in the latest updates MIUI 13/14 and HyperOS voice alert has become universal for all regions, except for the use of special versions of firmware.
⚠️ Warning: Disabling system notifications completely often requires the installation of modified notifications. APK-Using software from unverified sources can lead to leakage of your personal data or infection of the device with viruses.
There is also a legal aspect: in some countries, recording a conversation without warning from the other party is illegal, and smartphone makers are forced to comply with these regulations so that their devices can be legally sold on international markets.
Change of region and basic system settings
The first step to try before installing third-party software is to change the region in your smartphone settings, which does not give a 100% guarantee on new versions of the software, but in some cases helps to change the behavior of the system or return the ability to automatically record without further questions.
To do this, you need to go to the settings menu. Find the Additional settings (or Advanced settings) section and select Region. In the list that opens, try to select the countries where the legislation is most loyal to the entry, such as Singapore, Malaysia or Vietnam.
Once you change region, the phone may need to reboot, and it's also worth checking the settings of the Phone app itself. Click three dots in the corner of the screen, select Settings → Call Record. Make sure the Auto Record Calls slider is activated and the Warn Record option (if available in your version) is disabled.
It's important to understand that changing regions not only affects recording, but also other system services, such as Mi Browser or Mi Video, where the set of available content can change. If the voice alert is still there after the region change, then your version of MIUI has rigidly fixed this feature at the code level.
💡
If you switch from region to India or Indonesia, the call recording feature may disappear completely from the menu, in which case, immediately return the region to Russia or Kazakhstan.
Use of third-party applications for recording
If system methods are powerless, third-party apps come to the rescue, using algorithms to capture audio streams, bypassing Android’s standard limitations, but due to Google’s constant security policy updates, not all of them are stable.
One of the most popular solutions is the Applove Studio’s Automatic Call Recorder or Cube ACR. These programs require special permissions, including access to special features (Accessibility), to simulate user actions and enable recording.
Once you install this app, you'll need to perform the initial setup, and the process usually goes like this: the app asks you to select a sound source (usually a "Microphone" or a "Voice Call") and activate the recording service in the phone's system settings.
- 📱 Cube ACR: Supports VoIP recording (Viber, WhatsApp, Telegram), but may require the installation of a special applet (Cube) ACR Helper for working on new Android.
- 🎙️ Automatic Call Recorder: Simple interface, automatic recording of incoming and outgoing, the ability to configure exceptions for certain contacts.
- 📼 TapeACall: A paid solution often used by journalists records a call by creating a conference call (can be charged by the operator).
- 🤖 Blackbox Call Recorder: Minimalist app that tries to use system API, but on some assemblies MIUI It may not work without root rights.
⚠️ Warning: Third-party applications may conflict with the system recorder. Before installing a new recorder, it is recommended to remove or disable the built-in recording function in the Phone application settings to avoid double recording or audio failures.
Note that on Android 11, 12, 13 and 14, the effectiveness of third-party recorders is highly dependent on the processor model and the specific firmware version. On some devices, recording will only be conducted through the microphone (the interlocutor will be heard quietly and echoed), and not from the internal audio stream.
Installation of the modified application "Phone"
The most radical, but also the most effective way is to replace the Phone system application with a modified version of it, and enthusiasts create patches that delete the line of code responsible for playing the voice file "Conversation Recording Begins."
To implement this method, you will need to find APK-a modified Google Dialer application file or MIUI Dialer marked "No Recording Notification" or "Silent Call Recording" is often distributed on forums such as 4PDA or XDA Developers.
The installation process requires caution. First, you need to remove updates to the current Phone application through settings (Applications) → All applications → Phone. → Remove updates. Then install the downloaded modified APK-file.
☑️ Checklist before installing mods
Once the modified version is installed, the system can try to update the Phone app again via Google Play, so that this does not happen, you need to go to the app store, find the Phone (Google) and select “Disable Auto Update” from the menu.
| Method | Difficulty | Efficiency | Risks. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Change of region | Low. | Low (on new MIUIs) | Minimum |
| Third-party annexes | Medium | Medium (depending on Android) | Advertising, access to data |
| Modified APK | Tall. | Tall. | Viruses, instability |
| Root-right (Magisk) | Very high. | Maximum | Loss of warranty, brick |
The use of modified system applications is always a balance between comfort and security, and the removal of voice notifications is possible only when the system component is replaced, which formally violates the integrity of the software shell.
Advanced Methods: Root Rights and Magisk
For users who are not afraid of complex manipulations, there is a method of obtaining superuser rights (Root), the presence of Root access allows you to make changes to system files that are not available to conventional applications.
With Magisk, you can install special modules, such as MIUI Silent Call Recorder or similar patches, which are embedded in the bootloader and modify the system on the fly without changing the system partition directly, allowing for security checks in banking applications (if configured correctly).
However, getting Root rights on modern Xiaomi smartphones is difficult: to unlock the bootloader (Bootloader) requires a wait of 7 to 30 days, the presence of a Mi Account with a certain level of activity and special software for PC.
What happens if you terminate the Root rights?
The main disadvantage of this method is the loss of warranty. Xiaomi official service centers may refuse to repair the device with the unlocked bootloader free of charge, and some banking applications and antique games will stop working without additional dances with a diamond.
💡
Root rights give you complete control over the recording of calls, but they leave the device vulnerable and without warranties.
Compatibility issues and Android updates
With each new Android update (13, 14 and upcoming 15), Google tightens the security screws, methods that worked on Android 10 may not work on newer versions, this applies to both third-party applications and system loopholes.
HyperOS users should be especially careful, with the new shell providing more aggressive protection for memory and processes, and recorder apps can simply “fly out” when a call starts, as the system blocks their access to the microphone in favor of the Phone app.
In some cases, disabling battery optimization for a recorder app helps. Go to Settings → Apps → All apps, find your recorder, click Charge Savings and select No Limits.
- 🔄 Auto Updates: Always check if the Phone app has updated in the background. The update can return a deleted voice file.
- 🔊 Volume: Some users use a crutch: before a call, turn the media or system down to zero, make a call, record, and then turn it back up. This is awkward, but it works without installing software.
- 📵 Speaking: Turning on speakerphone sometimes changes the path of the audio stream, allowing third-party applications to better capture the sound of the interlocutor, although this does not hide the fact of recording from him.
It is also important to consider that devices purchased in China (CN Version) and reflashed to the global version may experience additional recording bugs due to regional database mismatch.
Legal aspects and ethics of recording
Before you completely disable the notification, you should think about the legal consequences: in the Russian Federation, recording your own conversation is usually allowed if you are a participant in the conversation, but distributing this recording without the consent of the interlocutor can be illegal.
The European Union (GDPR) and some states in the United States (such as California) have strict “two-party consent” laws, which means recording without warning is a criminal offense.
⚠️ Note: Using modified versions of applications for hidden recording for commercial purposes (e.g. recording conversations with customers or competitors) may entail serious legal liability.
Technical capability does not always mean legal permissibility: Voice notification, implemented by Xiaomi and Google, serves not only to comply with corporate policies, but also to protect users from potential legal problems.
