Xiaomi TVs (Mi TV series, Redmi Smart TV, Mi TV A and others) work on the proprietary shell of PatchWall or Google TV (in new models), which sometimes confuses users who are used to the classic menu from Samsung or LG. Where are the settings of sound, image, network or system parameters hidden? In this article, we will analyze all possible ways to access the settings menu β from basic to hidden β and also tell how not to get lost in the multi-level submenu.
The feature of Xiaomiβs interface is that the path to some options depends on the firmware version and the TV model. For example, in the 2023 Mi TV P1, HDMI-CEC settings may be in a different section than in the 2021 Redmi Smart TV X50, we took these nuances into account and collected universal instructions that will suit most devices. If your model behaves differently, check the relevance of the firmware (this will also be discussed below).
1. Basic ways to open settings on Xiaomi TV
The most obvious way is through the Settings button on the remote, but what if the remote is lost, the button is not working or the menu is not opening?
- πΊ Settings button on the remote: Press it once, the main settings menu will open. TV Q2) You may need to hold the button for 2-3 seconds.
- π±οΈ Mouse or keyboard: Connect USB-mouse to the TV and click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen (for Google) TV).
- π Buttons on the TV body: There are touch/mechanical buttons on the back or sidebar (usually Menu or Input). Hold the Menu 5-10 seconds to call the system menu.
- π± Mi Remote app: Install the official app on your smartphone, connect to your TV via Wi-Fi and use a virtual remote.
If the Xiaomi TV doesn't respond to the remote, check the batteries first or restart the device (unplug for 30 seconds). 80% of the time, this is how the problem is solved. If the settings menu opens but "hangs," you may need to reset to the factory settings - read about this in section 5.
2. Settings menu structure: what to look for
The settings interface on Xiaomi TVs is divided into 4 main sections, but their names and location may vary depending on the firmware.
| Section | What's tuning in here? | Examples of submenu |
|---|---|---|
| Device (or "System") | Hardware parameters, updates, reset | Software update, Reset settings, Power saving mode |
| Display and sound | Picture, sound effects, HDMI | Image mode, Equalizer, HDMI-CEC |
| Network and accounts | Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Google/Mi accounts | Setting up Wi-Fi, Mi Account, VPN |
| Annexes | Software management, rights, auto-run | Special features, Application Rights, Google Play |
In models with Google TV (for example, Mi TV Q1E), the menu may look different: instead of βDeviceβ there will be a section System settings, and the options for sound and images are separated into separate tabs. To avoid confusion, use a search by settings: at the top of the menu there is a magnifier β enter a keyword (for example, βHDMIβ or βBluetoothβ).
π‘
If there is no search on the menu, try voice input: say to the microphone the remote "Open Wi-Fi settings" or "Show Mode Mode Mode"; this feature only works on models with Google Assistant (2022 and later).
3. Quick access to popular settings
You don't always have to dig deep into the menu. Here are the hotkeys and quick paths for frequent tasks:
- π Loudness and sound: Press Menu β Sound or hold the Volume button - on the remote 3 seconds - the sound effects panel will open.
- πΊ Signal sources (HDMI, AV): Input (or Source) button on the remote β immediately shows the list of connected devices.
- π Wi-Fi Network: Settings β Network and Internet β Wi-Fi. In new models, the path is shorter: Settings β Wi-Fi.
- π Image mode: Picture Mode button on the remote (if any) or Settings β Display and sound β Image mode.
For PatchWall models (like Mi TV 4A), thereβs a hidden combination: press sequentially Menu β Settings β All Settings β General. This will open an extended menu where you can turn on Developer Mode or calibrate the screen to sRGB.
How to turn on the developer mode?
4.Where to look for hidden and technical settings
Some Xiaomi options are hidden from the user, but can be activated via the service menu or ADB commands.
- π§ Color calibration (for professional screen settings);
- π‘ Advanced settings HDMI (for gamers to reduce input delay);
To open the service menu, do one of the following:
- On the remote, press sequentially: Menu β 1 β 9 β 5 β 8 (for older models).
- Connect the TV to your PC on ADB and send a command: adb shell am start -n com.android.tv.settings/.device.devicesettings.DeviceSettingsActivity
π‘
Be careful in the service menu! Changing Backlight, Contrast or Sharpness settings manually can cause the matrix to deteriorate if you set values above factory limits.
For Google models TV (Like Mi. TV Q2 2023) Hidden settings are opened through Google Play Services. β Annexes β Google Play Services β Memory. β Management of space β All data and clear the cache. After the reboot, the option Advanced Configuration will appear. HDR.
5. Resetting to factory settings: when and how to do
If Xiaomi TV started to slow down, spontaneously switch channels or does not save settings, reset to factory parameters will help, this will delete all installed applications, accounts and personal data, but will return the device to stable operation.
You can reset the settings in two ways:
- Through the menu: Open Settings β Device β Reset. Select Delete All Data (or Full Reset). Confirm the action with a password from your Mi Account (if linked).
- With buttons on the case (if menus are not available): Turn off the TV from the socket. Press the Menu button on the case and without releasing it, connect the power. Hold the button for 10-15 seconds until the recovery menu appears. Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset using volume buttons.
βοΈ Preparation for resetting settings
β οΈ Warning: After resetting, the TV may require you to enter a username and password from the Mi Account that was previously linked. If you do not remember the data, restore it in advance on account.xiaomi.com, otherwise it will take up to 72 hours to unlock the data.
6. Frequent problems with settings and their solutions
Xiaomi TV users often encounter common menu errors, and here are the most common ways to fix them:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Settings won't open. | System freeze or firmware failure | Reset the TV (take it offline for 1 minute) If it doesn't work, reset the settings. |
| No HDMI-CEC section. | Disabled from the service menu | Turn on Settings β Display and Sound β HDMI-CEC or update the firmware. |
| No sound settings are saved. | Application conflict or cache failure | Clear the cache in Settings β Apps β Sound or reset the sound settings. |
| Menu in English | Failure of localization | Go to Settings β Device Preferences β Language and select βRussianβ. |
If you have lost some settings after the firmware update (e.g. Dynamic contrast or Noise Reduction), check the software version in Settings β Device β Device β About Device. For 2020-2021 models, the current version is MIUI TV 3.0 or later. If the version is outdated, update via Settings β Software Update.
β οΈ Note: On Xiaomi TVs with Google TV (Like Mi. TV Q1E) Some settings are duplicated in the Android menu TV And PatchWall, changes made in one partition may not show up in the other. Always check the settings in both interfaces!
