Your Xiaomi TV has started to voice every button tap, channel switch, and even system notification? This feature, designed for people with visual impairments, is often activated by accident โ for example, after a firmware update or when setting up a voice assistant. Unlike smartphones, where disabling TalkBack is intuitive, on Mi TV or Redmi Smart TV, the path to this setup is hidden deep in the menu.
In this article, you will find 5 proven ways to disable voice support, from standard settings to hidden commands for advanced users. We will also discuss why the function can turn on itself, and what to do if it returns after turning off. All instructions are relevant for Xiaomi Mi TV 4/4S/4A/5/5X, Redmi Smart TV X and others based on MIUI TV or Google TV.
Why did Xiaomi TV start to voice all the action?
The voice support function (similar to TalkBack on Android smartphones) is enabled for three main reasons:
- ๐ฎ Accidental pressing: button combination on the remote (e.g., retention) OK + Menu) can activate the mode for the visually impaired.
- ๐ Update of the firmware: after upgrade to MIUI TV 3.0+ Google TV Some of the settings are reset to factory.
- ๐ค Voice Assistant: When you configure Google Assistant or XiaoAI, the system can automatically enable voiceover of the interface.
On Xiaomi TV models with Google TV (e.g. Mi TV Q2 2023), the feature is called Screen Reader, and on older versions of MIUI TV it is called Voice Support or TalkBack. Importantly, if the voiceover appeared after connecting external devices (e.g. Mi Box or game consoles), the problem may be in the HDMI-CEC settings.
Method 1: Disconnect via standard settings (for MIUI TV)
This is the simplest method that works on most Xiaomi TVs with MIUI TV firmware (including models up to 2022).
- Press the Menu (or Settings) button on the remote.
- Go to Settings โ Special Features (or Additional Settings โ Special Features).
- Find the item "Voice support" or "TalkBack" and move the slider to the position "Off".
- Confirm the action by pressing OK.
If the "Voice Accompany" item is not on the menu, try an alternative path:
Settings โ System โ About TV โ Special OpportunitiesMake sure the remote is working properly (replace the batteries if necessary)
- Disable external devices (flash drives, consoles)
Remember the current sound settings (volume, equalizer)
- Check your Internet connection (for possible software updates)-->
โ ๏ธ Note: On some models (Redmi Smart) TV X50, Mi TV P1) If you turn off the voiceover, you may lose the sound in the menu, so restart the TV with the Power button on the remote for 10 seconds.
Method 2: Disable Screen Reader on Google TV (new models)
Xiaomi TVs from 2023 to 2026 (e.g. Mi TV Q2, Mi TV A Pro) run on Google TV, where the voice function is called Screen Reader.
- Press the Settings button on the remote.
- Select System โ Accessibility โ Screen Reader.
- Transfer the switch to the position "Off".
- If you request confirmation, press OK and hold for 3 seconds.
On some firmware, the path may differ:
Settings โ Device Preferences โ Accessibility โ Text-to-speech โ Screen ReaderImportant: If after disabling Screen Reader, the TV starts to stutter when playing video, reset the sound settings to the factory in the Settings โ Display & Sound โ Advanced Sound Settings menu.
What if Screen Reader is turned on by itself?
Method 3: Resetting special features settings
If voiceovers donโt turn off via the menu or return after a reboot, resetting special features will help, which does not affect the basic settings of the TV (Wi-Fi, apps, channels).
- Open Settings โ System โ Resetting settings.
- Select Reset Accessibility Settings on Google TV.
- Confirm the action by entering PIN-code (default 0000 or 1234).
After discharge:
- ๐ Check the volume level - it can drop to 50%.
- ๐ฏ Go to Settings. โ Sound and select the โStandardโ profile (not โFor the hearing impairedยป).
- ๐ Restart the TV so that the changes take effect.
โ ๏ธ Attention: On Redmi Smart models TV X resetting special features also disables voice search and remote gestures. To return these features, go to Settings โ Smart home. โ Voice assistant.
Method 4: Disconnect via ADB (for advanced users)
If standard methods do not help, you can disable voice over ADB (Android Debug Bridge requires a computer and USB-cable (or Wi-Fi connection).
Preparation:
- Turn on the developer mode on the TV: Settings โ About TV โ Software version โ Press 7 times in a row on the "Software version"
- Activate debugging over USB in the Settings menu โ For developers.
- Connect the TV to your PC via USB (USB 3.0 port on the back) or Wi-Fi (instruction below).

- Download Googleโs Platform Tools and unpack the archive.
- Open the command prompt (cmd) in the folder with adb.exe.
- Enter the commands in order: adb devices (the device should appear, for example, 192.168.1.100:5555) adb shell settings put secure enabled_accessibility_services com.android.tv.settings/.accessibility.TvAccessibilityService adb shell settings put secure accessibility_enabled 0
- Reboot the TV with the command: adb shell reboot
For Wi-Fi connectivity (if USB is not working):
adb tcpip 5555
adb connect IP_ your TV: 5555๐ก
If so, ADB-The voice commands are back, check for firmware updates. MIUI TV Reset availability settings after update.
| Model TV set | MIUI TV version | Does it work? ADB-method? | Alternative method |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi TV 4A/4S | 1.0โ2.5 | Yes. | Resetting special opportunities |

| Mi TV Q1/Q2 (Google TV) | Google TV 12+ | Partially (Screen Reader only) | Disconnection through Safe Mode |
| Mi TV P1/P1E | 4.5+ | No (ADB lock) | Reset to factory |
Method 5: Resetting the firmware or resetting to factory settings
If the voiceover appeared after the firmware update and is not disabled by any means, a rollback to the previous version of the software or a complete reset will help. Attention: these actions will delete all user data (applications, accounts, channel settings).
Firmware rollback:
- ๐ฅ Download stable firmware version for your model from the official Xiaomi website.
- ๐ Copy the file. update.zip flash drive (format) FAT32).
- ๐ Connect the flash drive to the TV and go to Settings โ Update of the PO โ Local Update.
- ๐ Select a file and wait until the process is complete (donโt turn off the TV!).
Full reset:
- Open Settings โ System โ Resetting settings.
- Select โReset all settingsโ (or Factory Data Reset).
- Enter. PIN-code (default 0000, 1234 or last 4 digits) IMEI case-stick).
- Confirm the action and wait for the reboot (it will take 5-10 minutes).
โ ๏ธ Note: On Xiaomi TVs with Google TV (Like Mi. TV Q2) After the reset, you may need to re-link your Google account. If you forget your login details, prepare them in advance or use a backup email.
๐ก
Firmware rollback is an extreme method. Before the procedure, check if there is a newer stable version of the software that fixes voice bugs.
What do you do if nothing helps?
If none of these methods worked, the problem may be related to:
- ๐ ๏ธ Hardware malfunction: damage to the microphone or audio chip (typical for TVs after falling or getting moisture).
- ๐ฆ Virus in firmware: if the TV is hacked or third-party apps installed.
- ๐ Conflict. HDMI-CEC: voiceover can come from a connected device (prefix, soundbar).
Actions in these cases:
- Turn off all external devices and check if the problem persists.
- Scan your TV for viruses through Mi Security Scan (available in Settings โ Security).
- Contact the Xiaomi service center with an error code (if any). For warranty models, repair is free.
If the voiceover only appears when you connect to a specific HDMI port, the problem is with the HDMI-CEC settings.
