Xiao AI’s voice assistant, notification voiceover, or sudden speech synthesis (TTS) on your Xiaomi can be annoying — especially when the smartphone starts “talking” without a command. Depending on the model (Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Mi 11) and the firmware version (MIUI 12-15), the ways to turn off voice are different. In some cases, it is enough to deactivate one parameter, in others you have to “dig” in hidden settings or even reset applications.
This article covers all possible scenarios: from standard Xiao voice shutdown AI prior to removal of the system TTS-We'll also explore why speech synthesis can be activated by itself after updates. MIUI If your smartphone has spoken after installing an app (like Google Assistant or Yandex Alice), there's a solution here too.
1.Switching off the voice of Xiao AI assistant
The most common reason for Xiaomi’s talkability is the activated Xiao AI voice assistant, which can be activated accidentally (for example, when you press the Home button for a long time) or after a firmware update to turn it off:
- Open Settings → Applications → Installed Applications.
- In the search bar, type Xiao AI (or Voice Assistant on Russian firmware).
- Select the application and click Disable (not “Delete” as it is system software).
- Confirm the action and restart the smartphone.
If the button is inactive:
- 🔧 Reset the application settings: in the same menu, click Storage → Clear the data and clear the cache.
- 🔄 Update. MIUI: In some versions of the firmware bugs with forced inclusion of Xiao AI corrected.
- 🛠️ Use it. ADB (For advanced users: Adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.voiceassist completely deactivates the assistant.

⚠️ Note: On some models (POCO F4, Redmi K50) after Xiao shutdown AI You might lose voice search in the standard launcher, and to get it back, you'll have to reset the launcher settings through Settings. → Annexes → Launcher → Warehouse → Clear the data.
Deactivation of the system TTS-text-to-speech)
If the smartphone is notifying you, SMS or system messages (e.g., “Charging is connected”), to blame TTS-The engine is the Android component that's responsible for speech synthesis:
- Go to Settings → Additional → Special features → Text to speech.
- Select the preferred engine and set the value No.
- Go back and turn off the voice output slider (if any).
On MIUI 14+, the path may be different:
- 📱 Settings → System system → Language and input → Text in speech
- 🔊 Turn off Google Text to Speech or Pico TTS (firmware-dependent).
If the engine does not switch off:
- 📦 Remove updates to Google Text-to-Speech via Settings → Annexes → Three points. → Show system-based → Google TTS.

3. Disabling the voiceover of notifications
Sometimes Xiaomi starts reading out SMS, messaging, or system alerts, because of the Notification Voice feature, which can be activated automatically after the update, to turn it off:
- Go to Settings → Notifications → Notification settings.
- Scroll down and find the Notifications Voice (or Voice Notifications) section.
- Turn off the slider and uncheck the boxes from the applications for which the voiceover was turned on.
If there is no section:
- 🔍 Check the settings of individual applications: for example, WhatsApp or Telegram can be enabled by your own voicemail messages.
- 📢 Turn off "Loud Communication" in call settings (Settings) → SIM-maps and mobile networks → High-profile communication).

4 Problems after MIUI Update
After upgrading to MIUI 14/15, many users complain about spontaneous speech synthesis, which is because the new firmware version resets some of the special features settings.
- 🔄 Update rollback: If the problem appears immediately after the update, try rolling back to the previous version via Settings → The phone. → Updating the system → Three points. → Select the update package (you need a pre-downloaded firmware).
- 📥 Manual installation of the old version TTS: download APK Google Text in Speech Version 3.10 (before the bugs appear and install it through ADB: adb install -r -d com.google.android.tts-3.10.apk
- 🔧 Resetting special features settings: Settings → Special facilities → Setting up special capabilities → Reset.
If nothing helps:
- 🛠️ Use the Disable Magisk Module TTS (root).
- 📵 Turn off auto-update system applications in Google Play → Settings → Auto-update of applications → Not update automatically.
⚠️ Attention: POCO and Black Shark with custom firmware (e.g. Pixel Experience) speech synthesis can be controlled via Settings → System system → Language and input → Text in speech → Settings icon. Turn off the option to Show the icon when speaking.
5. Disable speech synthesis for specific applications
Some programs (e.g. Google Maps, Yandex Navigator, Waze) have their own speech synthesis, which works independently of system settings.
- 🗺️ Google Maps: Open the app → Profile → Settings → Navigation. Select Voice and install No Sound.
- 🚗 Yandex Navigator: Go to Settings → Sound and voice. Turn off voice prompts or select Quiet Mode.

- In the app notification settings, turn off voice messages.
- For Telegram: Settings → Notifications → Voiceover messages → Never.
If the app does not have settings to turn off voice, but continues to “talk”:
- 🔕 Revoke permission for the microphone in Settings → Annexes → [Name of the annex] → Permits.
- 🚫 Block notifications from the application in Settings → Notifications → [Name of the annex].
Method 2: Remove system APKs (root required)
- 📌 Use Root Explorer or Titanium Backup to remove the device: /system/priv-app/MiuiTTS/MiuiTTS.apk /system/priv-app/VoiceAssist/VoiceAssist.apk
- 🔄 After removal, execute the command: su -c 'pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.voiceassist'
⚠️ Attention: Removal of system APK can cause some functions to fail (for example, voice search in the launcher or the operation of Xiaomi smart speakers). TWRP!

ADB-Reversible commands: To return disabled applications, replace disable-user with enable in the command.
7. Frequent errors and their solutions
When you turn off speech synthesis, users often face typical problems, and here's how to solve them:

If after all the manipulations, speech synthesis still works:

- 📡 Reset network settings (Settings) → SIM-maps and networks → Reset Wi-Fi, mobile network and Bluetooth settings if the problem is cloud-related.
- 🔄 Perform reset to factory settings (last option if nothing helps).
