How to turn off flashlight when calling Xiaomi: all ways

Are you tired of flashing your flashlight every time your Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO receives an incoming call?This feature, designed to attract attention in noisy environments, often becomes a source of irritation - especially at night or in public places. Unfortunately, the manufacturer did not bring a separate switch to turn off the light indication in the main settings, but we found 5 working ways to solve the problem on any versions of MIUI (12 to 14) and Android (10-14).

In this article, you will learn not only the standard methods through the phone menu, but also hidden settings for power users, as well as alternative solutions if the standard methods did not work. We tested all the instructions on Xiaomi 13 Pro, Redmi Note 12, POCO F5 and other popular devices of the brand.

Why does the flashlight flash when you ring and can it be turned off?

The flashlight feature for incoming calls appeared in MIUI 9 as part of the notification system, originally designed for users with hearing impairments or for situations where the phone is lying down (for example, on a table in a cafe), and over time the feature began to turn on by default on all Xiaomi devices, which caused a wave of discontent.

Technically, the blinking is implemented through LED-indicator (if it is in the model) or through the flash of the main camera. on new smartphones (for example, Xiaomi 14 or Redmi Note 13 Pro)+) It's the flash that's used because the manufacturer has abandoned a separate LED. You can turn it off, but the way it works depends on the light:

• 📱 Versions MIUI — in old firmware (up to) MIUI 12.5) was a separate switch, the new it was removed.
• 🔧 Root rights – some methods require deep access to the system.
• 📲 Phone models – on budget Redmi (e.g. Redmi) A2) maybe not LED-indicator.

If you don't want to dig into the settings, the quickest way is to turn off notifications for a specific contact (read about this in the section on customizations). But that's half a measure: the flashlight will flash when calling from other subscribers.

Method 1: Disconnect via notification settings (MIUI 12–14)

In the latest versions of MIUI 12.5-14, the manufacturer hid the flashing flashing option in the depth of the notification menu.

1. Open Settings → Notifications and Status bar.
2. Scroll down and select Call Notifications.
3. Slip on Additional settings (in some versions this item is called Advanced).
4. Find the option of Blinking indicator or Light indication and turn off the slider.

If there is no such item, then your model uses a camera flash, not a camera flash. LED-In this case, proceed to Method 2.

Important! On some devices (like the POCO X5 Pro), after this option is turned off, the flashlight stops flashing only when the screen is unlocked. If the phone is down, the indication can continue. This is a firmware bug that Xiaomi has not yet fixed.

Method 2: Use of the "Do Not Disturb" mode

If you don't have a direct flashlight switch in your settings, you can go a detour, set Do Not Disturb (DND) mode to block light notifications, which works on all versions of Android 10+, but has a limitation: the flashlight won't flash at all, even if you get a call from an important contact.

Instructions:

1. Go to Settings → Sound and vibration → Do not disturb.
2. Select a Schedule and set Always (or set a schedule, for example, from 22:00 to 8:00).
3. Slip on Additional (or Notification Settings).
4. Find the Light Notifications and turn it off.
5. Go back and in the Exceptions section add Calls from favorite contacts if you want them to pass without blinking.

The downside of this is that when DND is active, other notifications (messages, alarms) will not vibrate. To avoid this, set exceptions for each type of alert manually.

Method 3: Disconnection through special features settings

In MIUI 13-14, flashing flashing is duplicated in the special options menu, which works even on devices that don't have it in the basic notification settings.

1. Open the Settings. → Special facilities.
2. Choose Hearing (or Audio and Video in some firmware).
3. Find the Blinking Indicator when calling or Visual Notifications.
4. Turn off the slider and restart the phone (required!).

If there is no option, try turning on the Hearing-impaired Mode (if your model has one), then go back and check for the flashing option, which sometimes only appears after activating this mode.

Critical information: On devices without LED-Indicator (e.g. Xiaomi 13 Ultra) flashing is implemented through the camera driver, and it can only be turned off by system commands (Method 4) or root access (Method 5).

Method 4: ADB commands for power users

If standard methods do not work, you can turn off the flashing flashlight through ADB-Android Debug Bridge, which doesn't require root rights, but it does:

• 💻 Computer with drivers installed ADB and platform-tools.
• 📱 Included debugging by USB on the phone (Settings) → The phone. → Version. MIUI — Tap 7 times, then return to the additional → For developers → Debugging by USB).
• 🔌 USB-Type C Cable (preferably original).

Step-by-step:

1. Connect the phone to the PC and confirm the debugging permission.
2. Open the command line (Windows) or the terminal (Mac/Linux) in the folder with the platform-tools.
3. Enter the command to check the connection: Adb devices must appear serial number of your device.
4. Execute the command to disable flashing: adb shell settings put global flash_notification_enabled 0
5. Reboot your phone (adb reboot).

To return the blinking back, use the same command, replacing 0 by 1.

⚠️ Note: On some firmware (e.g. Xiaomi.eu), this command may reset after the system update.

If the team doesn’t work, try an alternative:

adb shell settings put system notification_light_pulse 0

Method 5: Editing system files (root required)

This is the most radical method that is guaranteed to turn off flashlight flashing on any Xiaomi device, but it is only suitable for users with unlocked bootloader and root rights. If you do not know what Magisk or TWRP is, you better skip this section.

Instructions:

1. Install a file manager with root access (such as Root Explorer or Mixplorer).
2. Go to /system/cust/prop/local.prop If there is no file, create it.
3. Add a line to the end of the file: ro.miui.has_led=true persist.sys.notification_light_pulse=0
4. Save the changes, set the rights 644 (r-w-r--r---).
5. Reboot the phone.

For devices without LED-indicator (camera flash), you need to edit the file:

/system/vendor/build.prop

Add a line:

ro.camera.flash=0

⚠️ Warning: Incorrect editing of system files can lead to bootloop ( looped reboot).Before changes, back up through TWRP Or OrangeFox.

💡

If the phone stopped turning on after editing system files, try booting into Fastboot mode (press Power + Vol-) and flashing the original firmware through the Mi Flash Tool.

Alternative solutions

If none of these methods worked, consider these options:

• 📵 Disable notifications for specific contacts: Open Contacts, select the right one. → Notifications. Turn off Sound and Vibration, and that will also block flashing of the flashlight for that caller.
• 🔕 Third-party apps: Apps like Flash Notifications or Light Manager can intercept flashlight control. Install them from Google Play and manually configure the rules for calling.
• 🛠️ Custom firmware: Firmware like LineageOS or Pixel Experience doesn't have this feature by default, but it's only suitable for advanced users.
