Connecting the remote to the Xiaomi TV: instructions for original and universal remotes

Have you bought a new Xiaomi Mi TV or are you having a remote synchronization problem? Maybe the original remote stopped responding after a firmware update, or you're trying to connect a universal remote from another manufacturer. In this article, we'll look at all the ways to connect, from standard infrared (IR) remote synchronization to setting up Bluetooth remotes and solving typical errors.

The connection process depends on the TV model (Mi TV 4A, Mi TV 5 Pro, Mi TV Q2, etc.) and the type of remote. Xiaomi’s original remotes usually sync automatically when you first turn on, but sometimes manual adjustment is required – especially after resetting or replacing batteries. Universal remotes (for example, from Huayu or One For All) will require the input of special codes, which we will show in the table below.

If your remote doesn't respond at all, check the obvious first: whether the batteries are charged (or the battery in Bluetooth remotes), whether there are physical obstacles between the remote and the TV, and whether the IR signal blocks bright sunlight. 80% of the time, the problem is solved at this stage.

1. Connecting the original IR remote Xiaomi

Xiaomi’s original remotes for the Mi TV 4/4A/4C/4S and older series run on infrared (IR) protocol. They are usually synchronized automatically, but if this does not happen, manually link:

1. Turn on the TV with the power button on the case (if the remote does not respond).
2. Point the remote to the TV’s IR receiver (usually located at the bottom of the screen or on the frame).
3. Press the Menu + OK (or Home + Back for some models) buttons for 5-7 seconds at the same time, until the indicator on the remote flashes twice.
4. Press any button (such as Volume+) to confirm synchronization.

2. Press and hold the Home + Back button (or Menu + Left for some versions) on the remote for 10 seconds until the indicator flashes blue.
3. The notification will appear on the TV, "Device Search..." Wait for the message "Remote connected."

3. Codes for connecting the universal remote

If you use a universal remote (such as the Huayu RT-820, One For All URC-7140 or Supra), you will need to enter a special code to control the Xiaomi TV.

Instructions for entering the code:

1. Turn on the TV with a button on the body.
2. On the remote, press the Setup (or Set) button before the indicator flashes.
3. Enter the 4-digit code from the table. If the code is accepted, the indicator will blink 2 times.
4. Check the Volume+ and Power buttons.

If none of the code fits, try auto-search:

1. Press the Setup until the indicator flashes.
2. Press 9-9-1 (for Huayu) or 9-9-0 (for other brands).
3. Point the remote to the TV and press Power every 2 seconds until the TV is turned off.
4. Save the code by pressing Setup again.

4. Solving Connection Problems

If the remote doesn’t sync despite all attempts, check the following points:

⚠️ Attention: On Xiaomi TVs with firmware MIUI TV 3.0 and later, the IR port may be disabled by default. To turn it on, go to Settings. → Devices → DU remote → Turn on the IR receiver.

• 🔍 IR port check: Illuminate the IR receiver with the smartphone flashlight. If you see purple flicker through the camera of the phone when you press the remote buttons, the port is functional.
• 🔄 Reset TV: Go to Settings → On TV. → Reset to factory. Once reset, all application and Wi-Fi settings will be removed, but this often solves remote synchronization problems.
• 📶 Interference from other devices: Disable other Bluetooth devices (earphones, keyboards) for setup time, as they may conflict with the remote control.

Xiaomi Bluetooth remotes also have a problem with "hanging" the firmware, if the indicator on the remote is lit red and does not respond to pressing:
