The carousel on Xiaomi TVs is a built-in ad unit that automatically scrolls through banners of content from partners. For many users, it becomes a real problem: distracting from viewing, slowing down the interface and taking up useful space on the home screen.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to remove the carousel - from official (where they are available) to hidden methods through the engineering menu and ADB. You will learn how to completely remove advertising on Mi TV 4/4S/4A/5/5X, Redmi Smart TV and other models, as well as what to do if after the update the carousel appeared again. All instructions are tested on the firmware of MIUI TV 2.0-4.0 and adapted to Russian and global versions of the software.
We warn you right away: some methods require developer rights or PC connectivity. If you're not sure about your skills, use only the official methods in the first two sections. For power users, we have prepared advanced instructions with ADB commands and modification of system files.
1.Official method: disabling the carousel in the settings (not available on all models)
Starting with MIUI TV 3.0 (2022), Xiaomi added the option of partially disabling the carousel through the settings menu, but this method does not work on all models and does not remove ads completely, only reduces the amount of advertising.
- Open Settings (cog in the upper right corner of the main screen).
- Go to the Account and Security section β Settings for Mi.
- Select the Personalization of Recommendations item.
- Turn off the Recommendation slider on the home screen.
- Confirm the action by pressing OK in the window that appears.
After that, the carousel should disappear, but instead it may be empty space or a banner suggesting that you turn back the recommendations on some firmware (for example, MIUI TV 2.5), this method does not work - the carousel returns after the TV restart.
β οΈ Note: On TVs with firmware for the Chinese market (CN ROM) Personalization of recommendations may not be available, in which case use the methods in the following sections.
If the official method didn't work, go to alternative methods, and the most common is to turn off ADB, but it requires preparation.
2. disabling the carousel through the engineering menu (hidden method)
Most Xiaomi TVs have a hidden engineering menu that allows you to turn off unnecessary system processes, including the carousel, which runs on MIUI TV 2.0-3.5 firmware and does not require a PC connection.
- Turn on the TV and go to the main screen.
- On the remote, quickly press the sequence of buttons: Menu β Settings β All Settings β General β About β Press βOKβ 5 times in a row on the item βModelβ After that, a message will appear You became a developer!.
- Go back to the main settings menu and select a new item for developers.
- Activate Debugging over USB and Allow location simulation.
- Now, on the remote, click: Menu β 1 β 3 β 9 β Menu Engineering menu will open.
- Go to the System Control section β Auto Start Manager.
- Find processes in the list: π com.mitv.tvhome (main launcher process) π com.duokan.phone.remotecontroller (controlling remote control) π com.miui.systemAdSolution (advertising module)
Turn them off, uncheck them.
Settings β Reboot
After the restart, the carousel should disappear. If it didn't, go back to the engineering menu and check if the processes are back on (sometimes the system automatically restores them).
What to do if the engineering menu does not open?
This method doesnβt remove the carousel forever β after resetting or updating the firmware, it can reappear. Use ADB (the next section) for a permanent solution.
3. Complete removal of the carousel via ADB (for power users)
The Android Debug Bridge (ADB) method is the most reliable way to get rid of the carousel forever, requiring you to connect your TV to your computer and execute multiple commands, and benefits from this: it works on all Xiaomi TV models regardless of the firmware.
What you'll need:
- π₯οΈ Computer with Windows/macOS/Linux
- π USB-cable (preferably original from Xiaomi)
- π₯ Utility. ADB Tools (download and unpack)
- π Developer rights on the TV (how to turn on β see previous section)
Step-by-step:
- Connect the TV to your computer through USB-port (use the port) USB 3.0 on TV stability).
- On the TV in the Developer Menu, turn on USB Debugging and confirm the permission to connect to your computer.
- On your computer, open the command line (Win + R β cmd) and go to the folder with ADB: cd C:\platform-tools\
- Check the device connection: Adb devices Your TV serial number should appear. If it is not available, check the cable or drivers.
- Follow the commands in turn: adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.systemAdSolution adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.mitv.tvhome/.launcher.Launcher adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.duokan.phone.remotecontroller/.activity.MainActivity.
- Reboot TV: Adb shell reboot
Important: Once these commands are completed, the carousel will be removed permanently, but some system widgets (weather, clock) may disappear. To return them, you will have to reset the TV to factory settings.
βοΈ Preparation for work with ADB
If the carousel remains after the reboot, try an alternative set of commands:
adb shell pm hide com.miui.systemAdSolution
adb shell pm hide com.mitv.tvhomeThese commands do not remove, but hide applications, which is safer for the system.
4. Use of third-party launchers (alternative method)
If you don't want to mess with ADB Or an engineering menu, you can just replace the standard Xiaomi launcher with a third-party one, which hides the carousel and adds new features to the interface. TV:
| Launcher | Advantages | Deficiencies | Download link |
|---|---|---|---|
| ATV Launcher | Completely removes carousel Support widgets Customized themes | The paid version for $5 | Official website |
| HalLauncher | Free Minimalist Design Fast Work | No support for Russian language | GitHub |
| Leanback Launcher | Optimized for Android TV Voice Search Content Recommendations | Can show you your advertisements | Google Play |
How to install a third-party launcher:
- Download. APK-flash-file.
- Connect the flash drive to the TV.
- Open the File Manager β Install APK.
- After installation, go to Settings β Applications β Default Launcher and select a new launcher.
β οΈ Note: Some launchers may conflict with Xiaomi system processes. If after installation the TV starts to brake, return the standard launcher through Settings β Launcher reset.
The advantage of this method is that you not only remove the carousel, but also get a fully customizable interface with support for themes, icons and widgets.
5. Firmware rollback: returning the old version without a carousel
Xiaomi's carousel has been around since MIUI TV 2.5 (2021), and if your model supports rollback, you can bring back the old version of the software that didn't advertise, which is suitable for power users, because it requires a complete flashing of the device.
How to check the possibility of a recoil:
- π Find out the current version of the firmware in Settings β On TV.
- π₯ Find an archive with old firmware for your model in forums (e.g, 4PDA).
- β οΈ Make sure the firmware version is compatible with your model TV.
Instructions for rollback:
- Download the firmware and unpack it on a flash drive (FAT32 format).
- Connect the flash drive to the TV.
- Go to Settings β About TV β System Update β Local Update.
- Select the firmware file and confirm the installation.
- Wait until the process is complete (the TV will restart several times).
After rolling back, the carousel will disappear, but you will lose all the new features added in the latest versions of the software. There may also be problems with the operation of some applications (for example, Netflix or YouTube may require a system update).
π‘
Before rolling back the firmware, back up your settings through Settings β Additional β Backup. This will help you quickly restore Wi-Fi, accounts and other settings after flashing.
List of firmware without carousel for popular models:
| Model TV | The last firmware without a carousel | Release date |
|---|---|---|
| Mi TV 4S 55" | MIUI TV 2.3.65 | March 2021 |
| Redmi Smart TV X55 | MIUI TV 2.4.72 | June 2021 |
| Mi TV Q1 75" | MIUI TV 2.2.99 | December 2020 |
6. Blocking advertising through DNS (additional protection)
Even if you turn off the carousel, Xiaomi can display ads elsewhere (such as in the app menu or when you start a TV). To block it completely, you can use an alternative DNS. This is a secure method that does not require developer rights.
Instructions for changing the DNS:
- Go to Settings β Network β Network settings.
- Select your connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
- Click More β IP settings and select Static.
- In the DNS field 1, type 1.1.1.3 (this is the DNS from Cloudflare that blocks ads).
- In the DNS 2 field, type 1.0.0.3
- Save the settings and restart the TV.
Alternative DNS for blocking ads:
- π AdGuard DNS: 176.103.130.130 and 176.103.130.131
- π Google DNS (unlocked): 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
- π Yandex DNS (family): 77.88.8.7 and 77.88.8.3
After changing the DNS, the ads in the carousel and other system menus should disappear. If this does not happen, clear the cache of the com.miui.systemAdSolution application in the settings (Settings β Applications β All Applications β System β Clear the cache).
π‘
Changing the DNS does not physically remove the carousel, but only blocks the download of advertising content. The carousel panel itself may remain empty.
7.What to do if the carousel appeared again after the update
Many users are faced with the fact that after an automatic firmware update, the carousel returns, which is because Xiaomi restores the system applications responsible for advertising.
- π Turn off automatic update: Go to Settings β On TV. β System Update. Turn off slider Automatic Update. In the menu, additionally turn off Wi-Fi Download.
Block the update of specific applications:
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.xiaomi.market(This will disable the app system store, through which advertising modules are often installed).
Use the firewall:
Install the NetGuard app (ADB required) and block internet access for the com.miui.systemAdSolution and com.mitv.tvhome processes.
If the carousel is back, repeat the steps in Section 3 (ADB) or section 4 (third-party launcher) also check if the settings have reset DNS (section).
β οΈ Note: On some models (Mi) TV Q2 2023 and later Xiaomi blocks system applications from disabling ADB. In this case, the only working way is to install custom firmware (for example, LineageOS for the use of a computer). TV), But it voids the guarantee.
