How to turn on the wallpaper carousel on Xiaomi TV: full instructions with pictures and tips

Live wallpaper with automatic switching (carousel) is one of the most spectacular features of Xiaomi Mi TV and Redmi Smart TV. Instead of a static background, your screen turns into a dynamic gallery: mountain landscapes are replaced by city lights, abstract patterns flow smoothly into space views, and family photos are automatically adjusted to the time of day. But many users do not even suspect that this feature is hidden in the depths of settings or turned off by default.

In this article, we will not only show you how to turn on the carousel, but also reveal unique Xiaomi chips that even official instructions do not mention, such as how to make wallpapers sync with the weather outside the window or why some Mi TV P1/P1E models require circumvention of restrictions through ADB.

Spoiler: With the new MIUI TV 3.0+ firmware, the activation algorithm has changed, so you need to link to your Mi Account, but we've found a workaround for those who don't want to sign up. Read on!

Not all Xiaomi TVs are capable of displaying dynamic wallpaper with automatic change. Here is the current list of supported series (data for 2026):

  • 📺 Mi TV Q2/Q2E (all diagonals) – full support with changing speed setting
  • 📺 Mi TV P1/P1E — requires updating MIUI TV 3.2+
  • 📺 Redmi Smart TV X – limited set of wallpapers (standard themes only)
  • 📺 Mi TV A Pro – Carousel works, but without weather synchronization
  • ❌ Mi TV 4S/4A — Not supported (maximum - static wallpaper)

If your model is not on the list, check the firmware version in Settings → About TV. Sometimes the feature appears after an update. For example, the Redmi Smart TV A55 only received the carousel in MIUI TV 2.8.34.

Before you get into the settings, follow these steps – they will save you an hour of nerves:

Check your internet connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet)

Update the firmware to the latest version

Connect to your Mi Account (if you don’t want to, read the workaround below)

Free up at least 500 MB of storage in the "Storage" section

Turn off energy saving mode in Settings → Power supply

Starting with MIUI TV 3.0, Xiaomi has attached premium wallpaper to authorization. But there is a life hack: if you have a Mi TV P1E or newer, you can use local wallpaper (more on this in the next section).

⚠️ Note: On TVs with 32GB of storage (e.g. Redmi Smart) TV A32) The carousel may be slowing down. Before activating, delete unnecessary apps through Settings → Annexes.

So, the way to go is depending on the firmware version.

Method 1: Using standard settings (MIUI TV 3.0 and later)

  1. Open the settings → Personalization → Wallpaper.
  2. Select the tab "Dynamic Wallpaper" (or "Live Wallpaper" on English firmware).
  3. Scroll down to the wallpaper carousel section and click "Enable".
  4. In the menu Settings of the carousel, select: 🕒 Shift interval (from 10 seconds to 1 hour) 🌄 Topics (weather, time of day, occasional) 📁 Source (standard, downloaded, from the gallery)

Save the changes and return to the home screen – the wallpaper will automatically change.

Method 2: Through ADB (for old firmware or unofficial wallpaper)

If you don't have a Carousel menu, you'll need to use ADB. This is safe if you follow the instructions:

  1. Turn on USB Debugging in Settings → About TV → Software Version (click 7 times on the line with the version, then go back to Settings → For Developers).
  2. Connect TV to PC by USB Adb shell settings put global settings live_wallpaper_enabled 1
  3. To adjust the shift interval, use: adb shell settings put global live_wallpaper_interval 30000 (where 30000 — time in milliseconds, here 30 seconds).
  4. Reboot the TV with the command: adb shell reboot

For the curious, Xiaomi's firmware hides a screensaver mode that turns the carousel into a slideshow with transition effects.

Can I use the wallpaper from Xiaomi phone on the TV?
Yes, but only if they're uploaded to Mi Cloud, sync automatically if you're logged in to one account, alternatively, copy the wallpaper to a flash drive, paste it into the TV, and select Source. → USB-carousel-setting.
Why does the carousel only work for 10 minutes and then stop?
This is related to energy saving mode. Go to Settings → Power and turn off the option Background Optimization. Also check if the TV is overheating - at high temperatures, the system forcibly turns off live wallpaper.
How to remove the Xiaomi watermark on some wallpaper?
The watermark only appears on standard wallpaper from the Mi Wallpaper collection. To remove it, use your wallpaper or download alternative packs from XDA Developers (root or ADB required).
Can you set the carousel to display wallpaper only at a certain time?
Yes, but only through third-party apps like Tasker (required) ADB). Create a task that schedules the wallpaper service to be turned on/off by the command: adb shell am broadcast -a com.miui.gallery.WALLPAPER_CHANGE --ez enable true/false
The carousel works, but the wallpaper is showing low quality. How do you fix it?
This is the MIUI TV firmware bug 2.8-3.0. Solutions: Update TV to the latest version. Manually set wallpaper resolution to Settings → Screen → Resolution (select 4K, even if your TV is Full HD). Turn off Hardware Acceleration in Settings → For Developers.

If your Xiaomi TV doesn’t support a carousel of wallpaper out of the box, try updating your firmware or using it. ADB-In 80 percent of cases, the function is simply hidden, but not removed from the system.
