Displaying time and date on Xiaomiβs screen is a seemingly simple task, but it has several nuances in the MIUI shell. Users often face a situation where, after a system update or reset, the clock disappears from the home screen and standard widgets do not display the date. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to display the time and date on the screen of Redmi, POCO and Xiaomi smartphones β from basic settings to hidden shell functions.
The MIUI feature is that the manufacturer regularly changes the layout of options in the menu. So the instructions that are relevant for MIUI 12 may not work in MIUI 14 or HyperOS. We took these changes into account and collected universal methods that work on most devices, including the latest models like Xiaomi 14 or Redmi Note 13 Pro+. If you do not find the right option, check the shell version in Settings β About phone.
We will also discuss how to adjust the time format (12/24 hours), change the style of the date display, and what to do if the watch widget is missing. Separately, we will focus on the problems with time synchronization over the network - this is a common reason why the clock on the screen shows incorrect data.
1. Standard watch widget on the home screen
The most obvious way is to add a watch widget directly to your desktop. In MIUI, it displays both the time and the date by default, but many users accidentally delete it or don't know how to return it.
To add a widget:
- Touch and hold the empty space on the main screen.
- At the bottom of the screen, a menu will appear β select βWidgetsβ.
- Scroll through the list to the βClockβ section (usually at the beginning).
- Choose your favorite widget style (e.g. Analog watches or Date Digital watches).
- Drag the widget to the free screen space.
If there is no option with a watch in the widget list, it could mean:
- π± Shell MIUI updated - in new versions, watch widgets are sometimes transferred to the Tools sectionΒ».
- π Setting reset - after reset, some system widgets are hidden.Try to restart the phone.
- π οΈ Launcher restrictions β if you use a third-party launcher (like Nova Launcher), widgets MIUI may not be displayed.
β οΈ Attention: B MIUI 14 and HyperOS, the default clock widget hides the date if the screen already has a weather widget. To show the date, remove the weather widget or select a different watch style.
2. setting the time display in the status bar
By default, the time and date are displayed in the upper right corner of the screen (in the status bar).If they are not there, this may be due to:
- π§ System interface settings.
- π΅ Do not disturb or read the mode.
- π₯οΈ Using full-screen applications (games, videos).
To adjust the display:
- Open the Settings β Screen.
- Select the βState Barβ (in some versions β βNotification Panelβ).
- Activate the switches: π Showing the clock π Show date (if option is available)
"The Format of Time"
24-hour
12-hour
If the date does not appear even after the option is turned on, try:
- Reboot the phone.
- Update MIUI to the latest version (older versions may not have a date in the status bar).
- Reset the status bar settings: Settings β Applications β Application management β System applications β System interface β Storage β Clear data.
To add a Google widget:
- Keep your finger on the main screen. β Β«WidgetsΒ».
- Find βGoogleβ or βGoogle Searchβ.
- Select a watch widget (usually called 4Γ2 or Weather Search).
- Place it on the screen and adjust the information displayed (date, weather, calendar events).
In HyperOS, Google widgets may not display a date if the system settings have power saving mode enabled for background activity. To fix this, add the Google app to the exception list: Settings β Battery β Battery Optimization β All apps β Google β Not Optimize.
| Type of widget | Shows the time. | Shows the date | Demands the Internet. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard MIUI widget | β | β (never) | β |
| MIUI weather widget | β | β | β |
| Google Widget | β | β | β |
| Chronus (sideway) | β | β | β (optionally) |
4.Time synchronization problems and their solution
If the screen time is not displayed correctly (lagging, rushing or resetting after rebooting), the problem lies in the sync settings. In MIUI, time can be lost due to:
- π Wrong time zone.
- π‘ Automatic synchronization disabled.
- π Battery savings (limits background activity).
To correct:
- Open Settings β Additional β Date and time.
- Turn on the options: π Autodetermining date and time π Time zone autodetermination
If the time is still incorrect, turn off automatic determination, set the time zone manually and turn on the synchronization back.
If the problem persists:
- πΆ Check your network connection β Internet (mobile or Wi-Fi) is required to synchronize time).
- π Restart your phone in Safe Mode (hold the power button) β Β«Safe mode") and check if the time has changed. If so, it's the third-party app's fault.
- π οΈ Reset network settings: Settings β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Resetting network settings.
β οΈ Note: On some models POCO (for example, POCO X5 Pro) after upgrading to HyperOS, automatic time synchronization may conflict with the Second Space function. If you use multiple profiles, check the time settings in each of them separately.
What to do if time is lost after turning off the phone?
5. Hidden functions: always on screen (Always on Display)
On devices with AMOLED-screens (e.g. Xiaomi) 13T, Redmi K60 Pro is available as a feature Always On Display (AOD), It shows the time, date and notifications, even on a locked screen:
- Go to Settings β Screen β Always On Display
- Select the display style (e.g. Digital Watch or Analog Date).
- Set up a schedule or turn on the Always mode.
- Activate the "Show date" option (if available).
Limitations of AOD:
- π Increases battery consumption (by 3β7% per night).
- π± It only works on AMOLED-Displays (not available on Redmi Note 12 with IPS-matrix).
- π οΈ It can be turned off when the battery is low (less than 15%).
If the Always On Display option is not on the menu, check out:
- Phone model β The feature is only available on flagships and some mid-budget models.
- MIUI version: AOD may not be available in older versions (below MIUI 12).
- Battery settings β if the power saving mode is turned on, the AOD automatically shuts down.
π‘
If Always On Display doesnβt work after the update, try resetting the screen settings: Settings β Screen β Resetting the screen settings. This will return the standard brightness and AOD settings without losing data.
6.Tune the time and date format
By default, MIUI uses a time and date format that corresponds to the region, but it can be changed manually, such as output seconds, change the order of the date display, or use a 12-hour format.
To customize the format:
- Open Settings β Additional β Date and time.
- Click on βTime Formatβ and select: π 24-hour (for example, 14:30) π 12-hour (e.g. 2:30) PM)
"Date format"
DD.MM.GYG.
MM/DD/GG
If the desired format is not in the list, you can install it through the language settings:
- Go to Settings β Additional β Language and input.
- Select Region and select the country where the format is used (e.g. USA for MM/DD/GG).
- Reboot your phone to make the changes take effect.
Decisions:
- Remove conflicting widgets β if there is a weather widget on the screen, remove it and check if the date appears in the clock.
- Clear the system interface cache: Settings β Applications β Application Management β System applications β System interface β Storage β Clear the cache
- Reset Launcher Settings: Settings β Applications β Application Management β Launcher (MIUI/POCO) β Storage β Clear Data Attention: This will reset the location of the icons on the home screen!
- Update theme β sometimes widget errors are related to the set theme. Try to return the standard: Topics β My Topics β Standard.
If nothing works, try adding a watch widget from another manufacturer (for example, Microsoft Launcher or Nova Launcher support their own widgets with a date).
