Xiaomi’s lock screen is not just a random click protection, but also a convenient notification center. Many users of the Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 or Mi 13 face a problem: messages from WhatsApp, Telegram or SMS simply do not appear on the locked screen, although everything worked before. In this article, we will analyze all the ways of setting up – from basic MIUI parameters to hidden functions through ADB, and also explain how to circumvent privacy restrictions in new versions of firmware.
It’s important to understand that the notification algorithms on Xiaomi have changed with the release of MIUI 12→MIUI 15. For example, MIUI 14 has a separate switch for “sensitive notifications”, and MIUI 15 has a function “Smart lock”, which automatically hides the content of messages from prying eyes. We tested all methods on current models (2022-2026) and identified those that work consistently.
1. Basic notification settings in MIUI
To start with, the simplest thing is to check the standard system settings, and most often the problem is that you have disabled application-specific resolutions or global lock screen settings.
Open Settings → Notifications and Status bar → Notifications on the lock screen. Here you will see three main modes:
- 📱 "Show all content" - displays the text of the message, the name of the sender and the application icon.
- 🔒 "Hide Notification Content – Only App Icons without Text are shown.
- 🚫 "Do not show notifications – the lock screen remains clean.
If you choose the second or third option, change it to the first. In MIUI 15 on Xiaomi 14 and Redmi K70, this item may be called “Show notification details” – do not confuse with a similar option in the settings of individual applications!

After changing the settings, restart your smartphone – sometimes the system applies the changes only after the reboot.
2. Set up notifications for individual applications
Even if the global settings are correct, individual messengers (such as Viber or Signal) can block notifications from showing on the lock screen, due to the privacy policy of the applications themselves or failures in MIUI.
To check:
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Select the desired messenger (for example, Telegram).
- Tap Notifications. → Show on the lock screen.
- Make sure that options are included: 🔔 "Allow notices" 📲 "Show on a locked screen" 🔓 "Display content” (if available)
WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger may require additional permission in the app itself. For example, on WhatsApp, go to Settings → Notifications → Pop-up notifications and select “Always Show Pop-Up.”
3. Problems with Sensitive Notifications in MIUI 14/15
Starting with MIUI 14, Xiaomi has added Sensitive Notifications, which automatically hides message content from apps labeled “sensitive,” including banking apps (SberBank Online, Tinkoff), some encrypted messengers (Signal), and even Gmail.
To disable this restriction:
- Go to Settings → Notifications and Status bar → Additional → Sensitive Notifications.
- Turn off the “Hide Sensitive Notification Content” switch.
- In the list below, uncheck the boxes from the applications you want to see in full.
Why are some notifications not shown anyway?
On the POCO F5 and Redmi Note 13 Pro+ with MIUI 15, this item may be located elsewhere: Settings → Privacy → Sensitive notifications. If there is no option at all, then your firmware does not support it (relevant to older models like the Redmi 9A).

If standard methods don't work, you can use USB debugging (ADB), which is suitable for power users and requires a computer, and it can bypass the limitations of MIUI when the system ignores notification settings.
Instructions:
- Turn on the Developer Mode on your smartphone: Settings → About Phone → MIUI version (shap 7 times).
- Return to Settings → Additional → For developers and enable “Debugging by USB”.
- Connect your smartphone to your PC, install it ADB Tools and execute command: adb shell settings put global lock_screen_show_notifications 1
- For forced display of notification content (instead of icons) perform: adb shell settings put global lock_screen_allow_private_notifications 1
- Firmware (for advanced users): If the problem occurred after the MIUI update, try rolling back to the previous version via Fastboot. or install custom firmware (e.g., Pixel Experience), where there are no Xiaomi notification restrictions.

Before resetting, back up via Settings → Additional → Backup and Reset. This will save your SMS, contacts and Wi-Fi settings.
⚠️ Warning: Resetting app settings will delete all saved browser passwords, notification settings and permissions. After the procedure, you will have to reconfigure access for each application.
On Redmi Note 11 and older, you may need to re-activate Google Play Protection and re-register fingerprints after reset. If you are not sure about your actions, you should contact Xiaomi Service Center.
7. Alternative methods: widgets and third-party applications
If the system methods do not help, you can use workarounds:
- 📲 Notifications widget: Add it to the home screen after a long press → "Widgets" → "Notifications. This will not replace the lock screen, but will allow you to quickly view messages.
- 🔄 Doubler apps: For example, Notisave (retains notifications in history) or Notification History Log.
- 🔔 Voice Alerts: C Settings → Special facilities → Notifications can be enabled by voiceovers.
