Automatically correcting the first letter to a capital letter in messages and notes on Xiaomi annoys many users. The feature, designed to facilitate typing, often works incorrectly: puts large letters after acronyms (CIS → Sng), in the middle of sentences or ignores the rules of the Russian language. In this article, we will analyze all the available ways to disable auto capital letters on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones with MIUI 12-15 firmware and Android 11-14.
Complicating the problem is that different versions of MIUI have different settings hidden in different ways, and some methods only work on certain models. We tested the instructions on Xiaomi 13 Pro (MIUI 15), Redmi Note 12 (MIUI 14) and POCO F5 (MIUI 14 Global) – all of which are relevant for June 2026. If your smartphone is released before 2020, some features may be missing (see compatibility table below).
⚠️ Note: Disabling autocorrect capital letters can lead to errors in official documents or business correspondence. In some messengers (for example, Telegram), keyboard settings are ignored - check the result after changes.
1. Disconnect via Gboard keyboard settings
Most Xiaomi users use Google's standard Gboard keyboard, which sets the auto-capital function for each language separately, and here's how to turn it off:
1. Open any field to enter text (e.g., notes or message).
2. Press the gear icon (⚙️) in the top keyboard bar to go to Gboard Settings.
3. Select Text Correction → Autocapital letters.
4. Turn off the slider for the desired language (for example, Russian or English).
- 🔹 Plus: Works on all Xiaomi models regardless of version MIUI.
- 🔹 Cons: Settings are reset after the Gboard update (you have to configure again).
- 🔹 Feature: For Ukrainian and Belarusian languages, the option may not be available.

2.Setup in MIUI Launcher (for the standard Xiaomi keyboard)
If you use a proprietary Mi Keyboard keyboard, the algorithm is different, and here autocapital letters are tied to the Smart Input function, which you need to turn off through system settings:
1. Go to Settings → Additional settings → Language and input → Current keyboard.
2. Select Mi Keyboard (AOSP) → Keyboard settings.
3. Open the section Text input → Autocorrection.
4. Turn off the options:
- Automatically with capital letters
- Correction of two capital letters (if any)
⚠️ Note: On some models (Redmi) 9A, POCO M3) Autocorrect can be called spelling or text correction. If you don't have an option, update the keyboard through the Mi App Store.

3. Resetting keyboard settings to factory
If previous methods have not worked, try resetting your keyboard settings, which will help in cases where:
- 🔄 Options are grey and inactive.
- 🔄 Settings are reset after rebooting.
- 🔄 The keyboard behaves unstable (independently includes autocapital letters).
Instructions:
1. Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
2.Look for the Gboard Keyboard or Mi Keyboard and open its settings.
3. Click Warehouse → Clear Data (not to be confused with Clear Cache!).
4. Reboot your smartphone and set up the keyboard again.

4.Use of ADB-Teams (for advanced users)
If the software methods didn't work, you can turn off autocapital letters via ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which is suitable for devices with an unlocked bootloader and USB debugging enabled. Be careful - the wrong commands can disrupt the system.
Step-by-step:
1. Install ADB Tools on your PC.
2. Connect your smartphone to your computer and allow debugging (includes in Settings → About Phone → MIUI version – press 7 times, then go back to Additional Settings → For Developers → Debugging by USB).
3. Open the command line (Windows) or terminal (Mac/Linux) and type:
adb shell settings put secure auto_capitalization 04. For the Mi Keyboard, additionally perform:
adb shell settings put secure miui_auto_capitalization 05. Reset the device.

Before using ADB, back up your data via Settings → Memory → Backup. If the keyboard stops working after the commands, reset the keyboard settings (see Section 3).
5. Alternative keyboards without autocapital letters
If none of the methods worked, consider installing a third-party keyboard.The best options for Xiaomi are:
- 📱 SwiftKey (Microsoft): flexible autocorrect settings, gesture support.
- 📱 Fleksy: Minimalist design, extended themes.
- 📱 AnySoftKeyboard: Open Source, Full Control of Auto Replacement.
- 📱 Gboard with the correction disabled: if the problem is only in auto-caps, it is enough to disable one option (see section 1).
To install an alternative keyboard:
1. Download the app from Google Play or Mi App Store.
2. Go to Settings → Language and Enter → Current Keyboard.
3. Turn on the new keyboard and set it up as the main one.

The keyboard side may collect your input. Before installing, check permissions in Settings → Applications → Application rights and disable unnecessary ones (such as access to contacts or location).
6. Frequent errors and their solutions
Even after autocapitalization is disabled, users face problems, and here are the most common ways to fix them:
- 🔴 Grey option: Update the keyboard through the app store or reset its settings (section 3).
- 🔴 Auto titles return after reboot: It's a bug MIUI 14.1-14.3 The solution is to roll back MIUI 14.0.2 or use ADB-teams (section 4).
- 🔴 In some applications, the letters are still fixed: Messengers (such as Viber or WhatsApp) may have their own correction algorithms.
- 🔴 On the lock screen, auto-caps do not turn off: This is a system function MIUI. There is no solution but to disable the pin/password.
