The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is still one of the brandβs most popular smartphones due to its price-performance balance. However, many users face intrusive advertising in system applications, notifications and even on the lock screen. Unlike flagship models where ads can be turned off through premium services, this requires manual adjustments on the Redmi Note 7.
In this article, we will look at all the current ways to remove ads, from official methods in the MIUI settings to hidden tricks with disabling system services. It is important to understand that some of the ads are sewn into the firmware at the level of proprietary applications (Mi Browser, Mi Video, Cleaner), so to get rid of it, you will need a comprehensive approach. We will also analyze which methods are safe and which can lead to loss of warranty or unstable system operation.
If you're willing to spend 10 to 15 minutes setting up, you can get rid of 90% of banner ads without root rights or third-party programs. For advanced users, we've prepared instructions using ADB and modified firmware that give 100% results, but require caution.
Why is Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 getting ads?
The reason for the ads is because of Xiaomiβs business model, which monetizes its smartphones not only through sales, but also through displays of ads on branded services. On the Redmi Note 7 (as on other devices with MIUI), advertising is integrated into:
- π± System applications: Mi Browser, Mi Video, Music, Cleaner, Themes.
- π Notifications: banners in the curtain, ads in the notification center (msa).
- π Lock screen: app recommendations and news cards.
- π Search box: in the launcher and browser.
- π¦ Security app: Advertising in the optimization section.
It is important to note that on the Redmi Note 7 (lavender model), the ads may vary depending on the firmware region:
The MIUI Global version contains less advertising than the Chinese version (MIUI China).
European firmware (MIUI EU) blocks most of the ads by default, but requires manual installation.
Russian firmware often comes with pre-installed advertising SDKs (for example, Push SDK from Mail.ru).
According to research by XDA Developers, up to 30% of the traffic on Xiaomi budget smartphones is generated by advertising, and users in Europe and the United States see it less often than device owners in Asia or Russia, due to local data protection laws.
Method 1: Disabling personalized advertising in MIUI settings
The easiest and safest way to do this is to turn off personalized ads through the settings menu, which will not remove the ads completely, but will reduce the number of ads significantly. MIUI 10β14:
- Open Settings β Google β Advertising.
- Click Disable Ad Personalization and confirm the selection.
- Return to the basic settings and go to Settings β Additional β Special features β Advertising Services.
- Turn off the slider Personalized recommendations.
- Reboot your smartphone.
This method blocks the collection of data about your preferences, but does not remove ads from system applications, for example, banners in Mi Browser or Cleaner will remain, but their subject will become less targeted.

Method 2: Manually disabling ads in each application
Xiaomiβs proprietary apps have hidden settings to disable ads, and below is a table of ways to do these settings for key programs:
| Annex | The path to settings | What to turn off |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Browser | Settings β Additional β Recommendations | Disable News and Recommendations on the Main |
| Mi Video | Profile β Settings β Recommendations | Disable Personalized Recommendations and Autoplay |
| Cleaner | Settings β Notifications β Advertising Notifications | Disable all sliders in the Advertising section |
| Themes | Profile β Settings β Recommendations | Disable Showing Popular Themes |
| Security (Security) | Settings β Cleaning β Cleaning settings | Disable Optimization Recommendations |
After disabling the ads in each application, be sure to clear the cache:
Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
Select an app (such as Mi Browser).
- Click Clear cache and stop.
β οΈ Note: Some regional firmware (e.g. India) may have different menu names. If you don't find the settings, try changing the system language to English (Settings). β Additional settings β Language & input).
Method 3: Blocking Advertising Notifications via msa
The msa (Mobile Services Analytics) service is responsible for displaying advertising notifications in the curtain, it can be disabled without rooting, but this will require the use of ADB (Android Debug Bridge).
- Turn on USB debugging: Go to Settings β About Phone. Tap 7 times on MIUI to activate Developer Mode. Go back to Settings β Additional β Developer. Enable USB Debugging.
cmd
Terminal
adb devicesThe name of your device should appear.
msa
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.systemAdSolutionReboot your smartphone.
After that, the advertising notifications from the msa will disappear. If you want to return them back, use the command:
adb shell pm enable com.miui.systemAdSolutionπ‘
If you donβt have a PC, you can use the app. ADB AppControl from Google Play. ADB-commands directly from your smartphone, but requires root rights for some features.
Method 4: Remove ads via hosts file (without root)
The method is suitable for blocking ads in the browser and some system applications, the essence is to redirect advertising domains to 127.0.0.1 (local host).
- Download the DNS66 or Blokada app from F-Droid (on Google Play, these apps may be limited).
- Launch the application and activate the ad blocking.
- Select a list of hosts to block (we recommend Adaway or Energized Protection).
- Reset the device.
This method blocks up to 80% of ads in the browser and some applications, but does not affect the built-in banners in MIUI. For full effect, combine it with other methods from this article.
β οΈ Note: When using Blokada or similar applications, the Internet may disappear in some banking applications (for example, SberBank Online or Tinkoff.

Method 5: Install custom firmware (for advanced)
If you are willing to take drastic measures, installing a modified firmware (e.g. MIUI EU or LineageOS) will completely remove the ads.
- π§ Loss of warranty (if the device is under warranty).
- π Possible bugs (unstable operation of the camera, sensors).
- π± Resetting all data (mandatory condition for firmware).
Instructions for installation of MIUI EU (without advertising):
- Unlock the bootloader through the official Xiaomi tool (requires a Mi Account and wait 7 days).
- Download the latest version of MIUI EU for lavender (Redmi Note 7 model) from xiaomi.eu.
- Install TWRP Recovery via fastboot: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img fastboot boot twrp.img
- In TWRP, run Wipe β Format Data (enter yes for confirmation).
- Install the downloaded firmware through Install.
- Restart (the first launch can take up to 10 minutes).
MIUI EU does not contain advertising, but has some limitations:
No support for Google Pay (due to lack of Widevine L1 certification)
- Possible problems with Netflix HD-quality.
Updates come every 1-2 weeks (not as often as in the official firmware).
π‘
Installing custom firmware is the only way to get rid of advertising 100%, but it is only suitable for advanced users. For most, a combination of 1-4 methods is enough.
What if the advertisements come back?
Sometimes, after the MIUI update, the ads reappear again, because Xiaomi periodically resets the ad settings to prevent it from coming back:
- π΅ Turn off automatic updates to system applications: Settings β Annexes β Application management β Threefold β Auto-update β Choose Never.
- π Check your settings regularly after updates (especially in Mi Browser and Security).
- π₯ Use level blockers DNS (For example, 1.1.1.1 or 9.9.9 in the Wi-Fi settings).
- π‘οΈ Install an alternative launcher (like Nova Launcher or Lawnchair) to remove ads from the home screen.
If the ad appears after resetting, repeat all steps from Methods 1-3. In extreme cases, you can use the App Inspector app (from F-Droid) to find and disable the ad modules manually.
