The standard shell of MIUI or HyperOS allows you to radically change the appearance, but not everyone knows where data about previously installed files is stored. Theme recovery is not always a reboot from the directory, sometimes you need access to the purchase archive or clear the cache.
There are several scenarios in which the user needs to return the visual style, from a banal change of design for a variety to critical errors when the system stops displaying icons correctly. It is important to understand that the restoration of the theme can involve both returning the standard design and reactivating a previously downloaded third-party file. In this guide, we will discuss all available methods, including working with cloud backups and manual installation of files.
Before you start taking action, you need to make sure that the Internet connection is stable and you have a Mi Account. Account binding is often the key factor in the successful return of paid content. If you just want to refresh the interface, the process will take a couple of minutes, but in cases of system failures, you may need to intervene more deeply in the settings of the application “Themes”.
Checking the download history in the app Topics
The most obvious but often ignored way to get back the design is to access the built-in profile history. Themes app stores data on all files ever installed, even if they were deleted from the device. To access this section, you need to run a standard application and go to the Profile tab, which is usually located in the lower right corner of the screen.
Inside the profile, you should find the "My Resources" or "History" section, which displays the full list of user actions. If the theme was free, it will be available for re-installation at any time. For paid themes, the system will check the license through your Mi Account. Make sure you are authorized under the same account from which the purchase was made, otherwise recovery will be impossible.
Sometimes the list may be empty or the file you want won't be there, it may be due to server sync or regional restrictions. Reset theme settings to factory
Sometimes, "restore" is a return to the original, factory-like state, where the interface is fast and error-free. If the current theme is crashing, slowing down, or displaying incorrectly, the best way to do this is to reset the theme to the standard one, which won't delete your personal photos or contacts, but will return the standard icons and wallpaper.
To do this, go to Settings → Themes → Profile → My Themes. Find a theme called “Classic”, “Default” or “Untitled” (usually first on the list or marked with a home icon). Solving problems with the application of the topic
There are times when the theme seems to be set, but the changes don't apply completely: the icons are old and the wallpaper is not changed. This is a common caching problem. The system can cling to old graphic resources. To solve the problem, try rebooting the device after applying the theme.
If the reboot didn't work, you can try clearing the Themes app cache. Go to Settings → Annexes → All applications → Topics → Memory and click Clear Cache (not to be confused with Clear Data if you don’t want to lose the list of downloaded themes.

If the theme doesn't apply fully, then consistently change the components: first wallpaper, then icons, and then apply the whole theme, which helps the system to properly update resources.
It’s also worth checking if the Easy Mode (for older people) mode is enabled, which blocks most third-party themes. You can turn it off in Settings → Advanced Settings → Simple Mode. After you leave this mode, the themes will be available for activation again.
