Why Xiaomi is not able to log into Google and what to do about it
Xiaomi smartphone owners regularly face problems when trying to log into a Google account — the system issues errors, asks for confirmation via SMS that does not come, or blocks access altogether. The reasons can vary from bugs in MIUI to restrictions on Google for devices from China. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods of authorization, including bypassing locks and restoring access to the account.
The peculiarity of Xiaomi phones (especially models for the Chinese market – Redmi Note 12 Pro+, Xiaomi 13 Ultra, POCO F5) is that they often come without Google services. Even if you bought a global version, after resetting or updating MIUI, you may need to re-assign your account. We will show you how to do it correctly to avoid errors like “This device is not certified” or “I failed to log in”.
Important: If you bought your phone from hand or through informal channels (e.g., AliExpress marked "Global ROM"), there is a high probability that it has Chinese firmware installed, in which case the standard login methods may not work - you will need additional configuration.
Method 1: Standard Sign-in via Xiaomi Settings
The easiest way to log in is to use built-in MIUI tools. This method is suitable for global firmware versions (e.g. MIUI Global 14/15) and most models, including the Redmi Note 11 Pro, Xiaomi 12T, POCO X5 Pro.
Instructions:
- Open Settings (the gear icon on the main screen).
- Scroll down and select Google (or Accounts and Sync → Google in older versions of MIUI).
- Click Add Account.
- Enter your email or phone number linked to Google.
- Confirm your password and go through two-factor authentication (if enabled).
If you have a “failed to connect to Google servers” error after entering the data, check:
- 📶 Internet connection (switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data or vice versa).
- ⏳ Date and time (in the settings should be the option Automatically).
- 🔄 Updates MIUI (Go to Settings. → The phone. → Updating the system).

If the problem persists, try the following method.
Method 2: Sign in via Gmail or YouTube
Sometimes the standard method of settings doesn't work because of bugs in MIUI, in which case you can log in through any Google app, like Gmail or YouTube, which bypasses system limitations and often helps when the phone doesn't recognize Google services.
How to do this:
- Open the Gmail app (if not, install it from the Mi App Store or APKMirror).
- Click on the profile icon in the upper right corner.
- Select Add another account.
- Enter the login details (email and password).
- Confirm access if required.
You can also access it via YouTube:
- Open the app and tap on the avatar at the top right.
- Choose Enter.
- Log in via the browser or directly in the application.
💡
If you log in with Gmail and you see a "Device not certified" error, try incognito logging in through Chrome. This sometimes bypasses lockdown.
After successful authorization in one of the applications, the account will automatically be attached to the phone and will be available in the MIUI settings.
Method 3: Manually add a Google account through Developer Options
If the first two methods didn’t work, your Xiaomi might have Google Play services disabled or system-level locking, in which case the developer settings and forced synchronization will help.
Step-by-step:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings → About Phone. Tap 7 times on MIUI Version (you will be notified "You became a developer").
Settings
Additionally. → Developer parameters
Enable Google Play Services
Google Play Services
Reboot the phone.
Settings → Google
If you don’t have the option to turn on Google Play services, you’ll have Chinese ROM installed on your phone, which will require unlocking the bootloader and running the global version of MIUI.
What to do if there is no “Enable Google Play Services” option?
Method 4: Bypassing the lock for Chinese firmware (China ROM)
If you bought Xiaomi with Chinese firmware (like the Redmi K60 Pro or Xiaomi 14 from China), the standard Google sign-in methods won’t work.
- Install Google Services manually: Download the Google Installer archive from Xiaomi.EU. Unpack and install APK-files are OK: GoogleAccountManager, GoogleServicesFramework, GooglePlayServices.Reboot your phone and try logging in.
Firmware for Global MIUI
- Unlock the bootloader through the Mi Unlock Tool.
- Install global firmware via Fastboot or Recovery.
- After the firmware, the Google account will be added in the standard way.
Important: Installing Google Services on Chinese firmware can lead to unstable phone operation (app crashes, fast battery discharge). MIUI.

Method 5: Restore access to Google account in case of errors
If you see messages like “This account is not supported” or “The device is not certified” when you try to sign in, the problem may be related to:
- 🔒 Blocking your account (for example, after resetting your settings).
- 📱 Incompatibility of firmware (Chinese version) MIUI).
- 🛡️ Google restrictions (for example, for devices with unlocked bootloader).
Decisions:
- Google Password Reset: Go to the Restore page. Confirm access via backup email or phone. Create a new password and try to log in again.
Deleting Xiaomi account
- Go to Settings → Accounts and Sync → Mi Account.
- Delete your Xiaomi account.
- Restart your phone and try to log in to Google.
- Google Play Services Data Cleanup: Settings → Apps → App Management → Google Play Services → Storage → Clear Data
💡
If Xiaomi requires an old Google account that you don’t remember after resetting, the only way out is to firmware the phone through Fastboot.
Table: Frequent Google Sign-in Errors on Xiaomi and Their Solutions
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| I couldn’t connect to Google’s servers. | Internet or Date/Time Problems | Check the network connection, turn on the automatic date |
| This device is not certified. | Chinese firmware or unlocked bootloader | Switch to Global MIUI or install Google Services manually |
| The account is already being used on another device. | Conflict after resetting settings | Delete your account via myaccount.google.com |
| Could not confirm the device | Blocking Google due to unofficial firmware | Use a VPN (such as the US) or run through the official firmware |
| Google Play Services are Shut Down | Failure of the framework | Clear the cache and data of Google Play Services in the application settings |
If your error is not listed in the table, try resetting the network settings (Settings). → SIM-maps and mobile networks → Reset your network settings or contact Xiaomi for support.
What do you do if nothing helps?
If you’ve tried all the ways and failed to log in to your Google account, the problem may be deeper:
- 🔧 Damaged section. /system — need to be reflashed.
- 📵 Lockdown IMEI (It is important for phones brought from China).
- 🔒 Hardware locking (for example, after motherboard repair).
In such cases:
- Contact Google to see if your account is blocked.
- Contact the Xiaomi Service Center for phone diagnostics.
- If the phone is purchased with hands, check it for reference to the previous owner through Settings → About the phone → Device status.
💡
Before contacting the service center, back up your data via Mi Cloud or locally to your computer. After firmware, all data will be deleted!
⚠️ Note: If you bought Xiaomi on AliExpress or other sites marked "No Google", you can only return Google services through a full firmware reflash.
