Recording calls on Xiaomi Redmi: how to turn on and configure (all ways)

Recording phone conversations on Xiaomi Redmi smartphones is a useful feature for recording important conversations, interviews or evidence in controversial situations. However, many users are faced with the fact that the recording option is either missing from the menu or is unstable, the reason lies in Google’s policy (restrictions on writing in Android 10+), features of MIUI firmware and regional settings.

In this article, we’ll look at all the working ways to enable recordings, from standard tools to bypassing restrictions through third-party apps and hidden settings. Relevant for Redmi Note 12/13, Redmi 10/11, POCO X5 and other devices on MIUI 14/15 (including global and Chinese versions), and learn how to save records to the cloud, automate the process and avoid legal problems.

Why is there no call record on Xiaomi Redmi?

If you don’t find the option to record in the call menu, the fault may be:

• 📱 Version. MIUI And regional constraints (EEA, Global feature is often disabled due to Google's privacy policy.In Chinese (China) ROM) or Indian (India) ROM) versions are usually available.
• 🔄 Android updates: Starting with Android 10, Google has banned apps from recording sound during calls without notifying the other person.

Method 1: Enable via hidden MIUI menu (without root)

In MIUI 12-15 firmware, the recording option can be hidden, but is available through an engineering menu, which works on most Redmi models and does not require superuser rights.

Instructions:

1. Open the phone app and dial the combination: ##4636##.
2. In the menu that appears, select Phone Information (or Phone Information).
3. Scroll down to the Turn on/off call recording block.
4. Activate the switch and restart the device.

When you reboot your calls, you should have a recording button (usually a dot mug) on your call menu, and if you don't, try the alternative code: ##8351## (for some versions of MIUI).

⚠️ Note: On some models (Redmi Note 11 Pro)+ 5G, POCO F4 GT) The engineering menu may not contain the write option. In this case, use Method 3.

Method 2: Use the standard Calls app (for supported regions)

If your Redmi runs on firmware for India, China, or Russia (not EEA), call recording may be available by default.

1. Open the Phone app.
2. Go to Settings. → Recording calls.
3. Enable the Automatic Record option or select Record selected numbers.

The app will record conversations in the background, and files can be exported to Google Drive or Dropbox.

If the app does not capture the sound of the interlocutor, try to turn on the speaker mode for 1-2 seconds during the call - this will activate the recording on both sides.

Method 4: Write via Google Drive (for MIUI 14+)

Recent versions of MIUI have introduced integration with Google Drive for automatic call backup, a method that is suitable if you do not want to install third-party programs.

How to set up:

1. Open Settings → Google → Backup.
2. Enable Backup of Application Data.
3. Select the phone in the list of applications.
4. Activate the option to save call records.
5. Please specify your Google account for sync.
