The Xiaomi Mi 10 Proβs phone recording feature can be useful in a variety of situations, from saving important business information to capturing evidence in controversial conversations. However, many users are faced with the option either missing from the menu or operating unstable, because recording capabilities depend on the MIUI firmware version, regional restrictions, and even the installed call app.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to enable recording on the Mi 10 Pro, including standard system tools, alternative applications and circumvention of restrictions for Russian firmware.
If you use a smartphone based on MIUI 14 or later, some of the features may have changed β we took this into account in the instructions, and we will also consider why the record may not be saved in some cases and how to fix it.
Before you start, check your firmware version: go to Settings β About Phone β MIUI version. This will help you to more accurately determine the options available.
1. Standard recording of conversations through the βPhoneβ application
On most versions of MIUI for Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, the conversation recording is built into the standard Phone app, but it may not be on the default menu.
Open the Phone app and click on the three dots in the upper right corner (menu). Select Settings β Record conversations. If this is not the case, your firmware does not support out of the box. In this case, move on to the following ways.
If the Record conversations item is available, turn on the switch and select one of the modes:
- π Record automatically β all outgoing/incoming calls will be saved without confirmation.
- π Ask before recording - before the conversation will appear a notification with a suggestion to include the record.
- π« Do not write - the function is disabled (default mode).
Important: Even if the feature is enabled, the record may not be saved due to operator restrictions or the laws of your region, for example, in some EU countries, automatic recording is prohibited without notifying the interlocutor.
π‘
If the recording button does not appear during the call after you turn on the recording, try resetting the Phone app settings in Settings β Applications β Application Management β Phone β Storage β Clear the data. This will return the standard settings without losing contacts.
2. Recording via Google Phone (for GMS firmware)
If your Mi 10 Pro runs on global firmware with Google services, you can use the Google Phone app (also known as Phone by Google) which supports recording conversations, but with important nuances:
Install the app from Google Play and make it the default call app in Settings β Apps β Default β Call app.
After the first launch:
- Open Google Phone and go to Settings β Record conversations.
- Enable the option to Record automatically or Record selectively.
- When you first use it, the system will request permissions to access the microphone and storage β provide them.
Note that Google Phone only stores records to the Google Drive cloud, not the device, which means that listening will require the Internet, and when you remove it from the cloud, you will not be able to recover the recording.

3. Use of third-party applications for recording
If the standard methods don't work, third-party apps come to the rescue, and we tested several solutions and selected the most reliable ones for the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro:
| Annex | Features | Cons | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cube Call Recorder ACR | Recording in high quality, support for cloud storage, automatic number recognition | Paid version for advanced features, may conflict with MIUI | Google Play |
| Call Recorder β Automatic | Simple interface, recording with the interlocutorβs notification (optional) | Advertising in the free version, sometimes does not keep long conversations | Google Play |
| Truecaller | Built-in recording + spam blocking, integration with contacts | Registration is required, recording is not available in all regions | Google Play |
Before installing, check the permissions of the application: it must have access to the Microphone, Phone and Warehouse.
- π§ Set up automatic recording or manual mode in the application settings.
- π Specify the folder to save files (preferably on the memory card, if it is available).
- π Enable a notice of entry if required by the law of your region.
4. Solving problems with recording on MIUI
Often, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro users experience recordings that either donβt start or are saved with distortions, and here are the typical reasons and ways to fix them:
Problem 1: The recording button is missing during the call.
β οΈ Attention: On firmware MIUI For Russia (Russified) the recording function is often disabled at the system level. The solution is to install global firmware through Fastboot or use third-party applications.
- π Restart your phone β sometimes it restores function.
- π± Check if permissions for the Phone application are disabled in Settings β Annexes β Permits.
Problem 2: The record is saved, but not reproduced.
It might have something to do with the audio codec.
- π§ Play the file on another device (for example, a PC).
- π§ Convert the record to format.mp3 via an application like Audio Converter.
- π Check if the file is damaged (pathway: /sdcard/CallRecordings/).
Problem 3: The recording is interrupted or interrupted.
This could be due to MIUI optimizations to save battery. Open Settings β Battery and Performance β Battery Consumption Management and add a write app to the No Limits list.
β Battery charge > 30%
β Enough space on the device (minimum 500 MB)
β Do Not Disturb Mode for Other Notifications
β Testing of recording (test call)
β Notification of the interviewee about the recording (if required by law)-->
5. Legal aspects of recording conversations
Before you turn on a record, it is important to understand the legal consequences. In most countries, recording a conversation without the consent of the interlocutor is prohibited unless you have notified him in advance.
- π You record a conversation for personal use (for example, to keep important information in mind).
- βοΈ Recording is made in the framework of a trial or to protect their rights.
- π The interviewee was verbally notified of the recording (for example, you said, "I'm turning on the record, you're happy with it?").
In Russia, according to Article 23 of the Constitution and Article 138 of the Criminal Code, recording a conversation without consent is allowed if you are a participant in it, however, the use of such recording in court or public broadcasting can be challenged.
In EU countries (e.g. Germany or France), the laws are stricter: recording without consent is considered a violation of the right to privacy and can result in a fine.
π‘
Even if the recording is permitted, it may be illegal to publish it or share it with third parties without the consent of the person involved, and always consult a lawyer before using the recordings in a disputed situation.
6. Alternative recording methods (without root)
If none of the above methods worked, you can use workarounds, which don't require root rights, but can be less convenient.
Method 1: Recording through the second phone
Put a second smartphone next to it and turn on the voice recording via a voice recorder app (like Easy Voice Recorder), minus the quality will be worse due to echoes and noise.
Method 2: Using a headset with a record
Some Bluetooth headsets (such as Sony WH-1000XM4 or Jabra Elite) support recording conversations through related apps. Connect the headset to the Mi 10 Pro and activate the recording in its settings.
Method 3: Google Assistant
When you talk, activate Google Assistant with a voice command (e.g., "OK, Google, start recording"). The assistant will create an audio file that will be saved to Google Drive.
7 Where records are stored and how to keep them
By default, conversation records on Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro are saved in the folder:
/storage/emulated/0/CallRecordings/
or
/sdcard/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/The files are.amr or.mp3 and named by pattern: Recording_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.amr.
To avoid losing important records:
- βοΈ Automatic synchronization with the cloud (Google Drive, Mi Cloud, Yandex.Disk).
- π€ Backup to PC via cable or Wi-Fi (Send Anywhere app).
- π Encrypting sensitive records (use Cryptomator or embedded tools) MIUI).
If the Suddenly records are gone, check:
- The Recycle Bin folder in the MIUI file manager.
- Waste cleaning settings: Settings β Warehouse β Cleanup β Settings β Exceptions (add a folder with records as exceptions).
