Pop-ups on Xiaomi Redmi smartphones are not just notifications, but a key element of interaction with the system and applications. They allow you to quickly respond to messages, control music playback or receive important alerts without fully opening the application. However, many users face the problem: windows either do not appear at all or work incorrectly. The reason often lies in the MIUI settings, which by default can block pop-ups to save battery power or optimize performance.
In this article, we will look at all the ways to enable pop-ups, from basic system settings to hidden options for specific applications. We will focus on the Redmi Note 10/11/12, Redmi 9/10/13 and the flagships of the K series, because their firmware can have nuances. If you have tried to enable notifications through the standard menu, but nothing has happened, do not close the page: at the end there is a section with alternative methods and solving common errors.
MIUI is known for its flexibility, but sometimes this flexibility plays against the user. For example, after a system update, pop-ups can turn off automatically, and some applications (especially messengers like Telegram or WhatsApp) require separate configuration. We tested all methods on the latest versions of MIUI 13 and 14, so the instructions are relevant for most modern Xiaomi devices.
1. Basic pop-up settings in MIUI
Let's start with the simplest one: checking the global notification settings, and often the problem is solved in just 2-3 taps.
Open Settings β Notifications and Status bar β Notification management. Here you will see a list of all installed applications. Find the right one (like VKontakte or Gmail) and tap it. In the menu that opens, note three key switches:
- π Allow notifications - the main switchboard, without which nothing will work.
- π± Pop-ups β a separate option for displaying notifications on top of other applications.
- π Sound is optional, but useful for important alerts.
If the pop-up switch is missing, the app does not support this notification format (for example, some banking programs), in which case, check the settings inside the application itself: often there is a separate Notifications or Notification Settings section.

On some Redmi models (e.g., Redmi Note 10 Pro), the path to settings may be different: Settings β Applications β Application Management β [Select App] β Notifications.
2. Configure pop-up windows for specific applications
Even if global settings are enabled, individual programs can block pop-ups at the level of their parameters, and let's take the example of popular messengers and social networks.
For Telegram:
- Open the app and go to Settings β Notifications and sounds.
- Select Pop-up Notifications and set the value to Always Show.
- Go back and turn on the option to Show text (if you want to see content without unlocking).
For WhatsApp:
- π± Go to Settings. β Notifications.
- π Enable Pop-up Notifications and select the display style (Standard or Advanced).
- π Restart the application to make the changes effective.
For VKontakte:
Here the algorithm is more complex: in addition to system settings, go to App Settings β Notifications β Pop-ups and select Always Show. We also recommend turning off the option Battery Optimization for VK in the MIUI settings (more on this in the next section).
3. Battery Optimization and Autostart: Hidden Causes of Problems
MIUI aggressively optimizes the background of applications to save battery life, which often leads to pop-ups not appearing even when all settings are enabled, and you can manually fix this.
Go to Settings β Battery and Performance β Battery Management. Find the right application and select No Limits mode for it. This will prevent the program from being forced to close in the background.
The second important item is autorun. Without it, apps won't be able to show notifications after you reboot your phone. Path: Settings β Apps β App Management β [Select App] β Autorun. Turn on the switchboard and restart your phone.
What to do if there is no "Stop" item?
For Redmi models with Snapdragon processors (such as the Redmi K50), we further recommend disabling Adaptive Battery Optimization in Settings β Battery β Battery settings. This will help to avoid accidentally turning off notifications.
4. Problems with MIUI 13/14: changed?
In the latest firmware versions, Xiaomi has changed the logic of notifications, so pop-ups can be blocked not only at the application level, but also at the system resolutions level.
To check this, go to Settings β Privacy β Special Permissions β Display on top of other applications. This should include a switch for all programs that are allowed to show pop-ups. If the application is not listed, click Add and select it manually.
Another innovation of MIUI 14 is Intelligent Notifications, which automatically sorts alerts by importance, but sometimes mistakenly blocks pop-ups. To turn it off, go to Settings β Notifications and Status bar β Intelligent Notifications and deactivate the option.
π‘
MIUI 14 has a new Concentration Mode (in notification settings) section that can block all pop-ups while sleeping or working, and check its settings if notifications disappear at certain times of the day.
5. Alternative methods: if nothing helps
If the standard methods didnβt work, try one of these options:
| Method | Description | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|
| Resetting notification settings | Go to Settings β Applications β Reset application settings β Notifications. This will return all settings to factory. | MIUI 12-14, all Redmi models |
| Cleaning the app cache | In the application settings, select Warehouse β Clear cache. Sometimes corrupted data interferes with the correct operation of notifications. | Any applications other than system |
| Use of ADB | For advanced users: connect your phone to your PC and execute the command: adb shell cmd notification allow_listener [package_name] | Only for experienced users |
| Installation of an alternative launcher | Some launchers (like Nova Launcher) have their own notification settings that can bypass MIUI restrictions. | Redmi Note 10/11, Redmi 9 |
ADB is especially effective for applications that stubbornly donβt want to show pop-ups (such as Discord or Slack). However, be careful: the wrong commands can disrupt the system. If youβre not sure, contact Xiaomi Support.

6. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
Even after setting it up properly, pop-ups can be unstable, and here are the typical reasons and solutions:
- π Notifications appear but disappear too quickly: check the settings for notification duration in Settings β Notifications and status bar β Set the value of 5 seconds or until you press.
- π΅ Pop-ups donβt work in games or on the whole screen: this is a limitation. MIUI. Try to enable Game Turbo mode and allow notifications for specific applications in its settings.
- π After updating MIUI Windows stopped showing: reset the notification settings (see previous section) or wait for a patch from Xiaomi.
There is a bug on the Redmi K40 and Redmi K50 models: pop-ups donβt work if Performance is enabled in battery settings. Switch to Balanced or Charge Saving to make notifications work.
π‘
If pop-ups only work for some applications (such as SMS or Calls) but not for instant messengers, check the notification priority settings in MIUI.
7. Configure pop-up windows for system applications
System notifications (such as from Calendar, Weather, or MIUI Security) can also be configured, but the path to their settings is often hidden.
For the Calendar:
Go to the app itself, open the menu (three dots at the top) and select Settings β Notifications. You can turn on pop-ups for events and reminders. Note the Show in advance option, which allows you to set the notification time to the event (5 minutes to 2 hours).
For MIUI Security:
This app is responsible for virus scanning and system optimization. Its notifications often annoy users, but they can also be configured. Go to Security β Settings (cog at the top) β Notifications and turn off unnecessary alerts. However, do not turn off Virus Warnings, this can threaten the security of the device.
β οΈ Note: Some firmware (especially Chinese) system applications may not have an interface for setting notifications, in which case you only have to disable them completely through Settings. β Annexes β Show all applications β [System application] β Notifications.
