Xiaomi Redmi 4X is still a popular budget smartphone, but many users face the problem of not having a Russian layout after resetting settings or buying a device with foreign firmware. In this article, we will analyze all the current ways to add Russian, from standard MIUI settings to manually installing the keyboard via APK.
The peculiarity of Redmi 4X (codename santoni) is that on some versions of MIUI Russian may be hidden in the system settings or not at all in the list of available ones. This is due to regional firmware restrictions (for example, Global ROM vs China ROM).
Important: If your smartphone was purchased in China or on AliExpress with Chinese firmware, the procedure will differ from the standard one.
Check the current version of MIUI and the firmware region
Before you add a Russian keyboard, you need to understand what firmware is installed on your Redmi 4X.
- Open the Settings. β The phone.
- Scroll down to MIUI version. Remember the number (e.g. MIUI Global 12.5.1).
- Click on the MIUI version line several times until the caption βYouβre a developer!β appears (this unlocks hidden settings).
- Go back to the main settings menu and open Additional β Region, where you can find the current firmware region (e.g. India, China, Russia).
If Russia or Ukraine/Belarus/Kazakhstan are not listed in the list of regions, then you do not have global firmware, and Russian may not be in the system settings, in which case you will either need to change the region (see section 3) or install a third-party keyboard (section 5).
| Type of firmware | Support for the Russian language | Do I need to manually install the keyboard? |
|---|---|---|
| Global Stable (EEA/Russia) | Yeah, built into the system. | No. |
| Global Stable (India/Indonesia) | Partially (may be absent) | Maybe. |
