Xiaomiβs robot vacuum cleaners (including Mi Robot, Dreame and Viomi brands) come with factory settings in Chinese or English. This creates inconvenience for Russian users: voice prompts and app menus remain unclear, and some features may not work correctly. Fortunately, you can change the language to Russian in several ways, both through the official app and manually.
In this article, we will discuss all the current methods of switching the language for popular models, from Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum to Dreame Bot Z10 Pro. You will learn how to check the current firmware, update it if necessary and avoid typical errors. And if your model does not support Russian out of the box, we will show workarounds β from installing custom firmware to using alternative applications.
Importantly, the procedure may vary depending on the firmware version and the region of purchase of the vacuum cleaner. For example, devices purchased in Europe often already have a lot of language support, while the gray variants from China require manual adjustment.
1. Check the current language and firmware version
Before you try to change the language, make sure that your Xiaomi model of vacuum cleaner supports Russian at all.
- π± Open the Mi Home app (or Dreamehome for Dreame devices).
- π Find your vacuum cleaner in the list of devices and go to its settings.
- π Check the About Device section or Firmware information β it should be Language or Language.
- π’ Write down the firmware version (for example, 3.5.8_0042) β You will need it to find updates.
If there is no Russian in the list of languages, it does not always mean that you can not add it, you may need to update the firmware to the latest version. 1S Russian was absent, but appeared after the update to the 3.3.9_0036.
Also, look at the server region in the Mi Home app. If you choose China, some features may be blocked, and for Russia, Europe or Russia (if available).
β οΈ Warning: Vacuum cleaners purchased from official Russian stores (for example, M. Video or Svyaznoy) usually already have Russian. If not, check if the device is connected to a Chinese server in the settings of the Mi Account account.
Method 1: Change the language through the official annex
The easiest method is to use a proprietary app. The instruction is suitable for most models, including the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite, Dreame Bot D9 and Viomi V3.
- Open the Mi Home app (or Dreamehome for Dreame).
- Select your vacuum cleaner from the list of devices.
- Go to Settings β General Settings β Language (or Settings β General β Language).
- Find Russian (or Russian) and select it.
- Confirm the change - the vacuum cleaner will restart (white indicator will light up).
If the Russian is not on the list:
- π Update the vacuum cleaner firmware through the Software Update section in the application.
- π Check the server region in Mi Home: go to profile β Settings β Region and choose Russia or Europe.
- π± Update the Mi Home app to the latest version in Google Play or App Store.
βοΈ Preparation for language change
On some models (for example, Dreame Bot Z10 Pro) the language changes not in the main menu, but in the Voice Pack section.
β οΈ Note: After changing the language, some voice commands may not work properly if the model is not optimized for the Russian-speaking market, in which case resetting to factory settings will help (see section 5).
3. Method 2: Updating the firmware to add Russian
If your firmware version doesn't have Russian, you can add it by updating it.
- Connect the vacuum cleaner to the Mi Home and check the current firmware version in About Device.
- Go to Settings. β Update of the PO.
- If a new version is available, click Update and wait until it is completed (the vacuum cleaner will sound).
If the update is not automatically updated:
- π Check if the device is connected to the server Europe or Russia.
- π₯ Download the latest firmware manually from the official Xiaomi website (the support section of your model).
- π Connect the vacuum cleaner to Wi-Fi and check for updates again.
For Dreame models (like the Dreame Bot L10 Pro), the firmware update can take up to 20 minutes. Don't turn the vacuum cleaner off the power at this time - the indicator will flash blue.
| Model vacuum cleaner | Minimum version of firmware with Russian | Refreshment |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum 1S | 3.3.9_0036 | Through Mi Home (automatically) |
| Dreame Bot D9 | 1.6.0_2103 | Through Dreamehome (manually) |
| Viomi V3 | 2.1.5_0012 | Requires reset to factory. |
| Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite | 3.5.8_0042 | Automatically when connected to a Russian server |
π‘
If the update is 0% down, try reconnecting the vacuum cleaner to Wi-Fi or changing the server region in Mi Home to Singapore β sometimes this speeds up the download of files.
Method 3: Manual addition of Russian (for experienced users)
If the official methods did not work, you can try to install custom firmware or change the region of the device through ADB-This is a method that is suitable for advanced users and requires:
- π» Computer with drivers installed ADB.
- π USB-Type-C cable (to connect the vacuum cleaner to the PC).
- π Firmware file with support for Russian (can be found on the forums) 4PDA Xiaomi Community).
The following is a step-by-step guide for Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum:
- Download the archive with firmware and unpack it in a folder.
- Connect the vacuum cleaner to your PC via USB and enable debugging mode (this may require a special application, such as Mi Home Hack).
- Open the command line (cmd) and execute: adb devices (you should display your device).
- Download the firmware with the command: adb push firmware.bin /sdcard/
- Reboot the vacuum cleaner to recovery mode: adb reboot recovery
- Through the Mi Home app, run the update from the file.
Attention: The wrong firmware can "brick" the vacuum cleaner! Use only files designed for your model. If you are not sure about your skills, you should contact the service center.
What if the vacuum cleaner stopped turning on after the firmware?
5. Resetting settings to factory
If the vacuum cleaner is unstable after changing the language (for example, it does not save cards or does not respond to commands), a complete reset will help, which will remove all settings, including saved cleaning cards, but return the device to its original state.
How to reset:
- Turn on the vacuum cleaner and wait until it emits an audible signal.
- Press and hold the Home and Spot Cleaning buttons simultaneously for 5-10 seconds until the orange light lights up.
- Release the buttons β the vacuum cleaner will start the reset process (can flash white and blue).
- After the reboot, connect to it again via Mi Home.
For Dreame models (such as the Dreame Bot Z10 Pro), the reset is performed differently:
- π Press the power button for 15 seconds until the double signal sounds.
- π± In Dreamehome, select Remove Device and Add It Again.
β οΈ Warning: After the vacuum cleaner is discharged, the vacuum cleaner may return to Chinese, in which case repeat the procedure for changing the language (see section 2).
6. Alternative ways of management without Russian language
If you can not switch the language, you can use a vacuum cleaner without it, resorting to alternative methods:
- π± Analog apps: For example, Home Assistant or IoT Mi Controller let you control a vacuum cleaner via Mi Home API, ignoring language settings.
- π€ Voice assistants: Connect the vacuum cleaner to Alice (Yandex), Google Assistant or Siri β commands will be executed in Russian, even if the vacuum cleaner itself βspeaksβ in English.
- π₯οΈ Web interface: Some firmware (e.g. Valetudo) allow vacuum cleaner control via a browser where the language can be selected separately.
To connect to Home Assistant, you will need:
- Install HACS (Home Assistant Community Store)
- Add integration to Xiaomi Miio.
- Enter the device token (it can be obtained through the Mi Home Hack app).
The advantage of this method is full control over the vacuum cleaner, including the creation of automatic scenarios (for example, cleaning on a schedule based on your location).
π‘
Using alternative applications does not negate the need to update firmware. Without the current version of software, some functions (such as zoning or carpet recognition) may not work properly.
7. Frequent errors and their solution
When changing a language, users face typical problems, and here are the most common ways to address them:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Russian language is not on the list | Outdated firmware or inappropriate server region | Update and change region to Europe in Mi Home |
| Vacuum cleaner does not retain tongue after restarting | Failure of settings or incompatible firmware | Reset to factory and repeat the setup |
| Voice prompts remain in Chinese | Russian voice package not installed | Download the package to Settings β Voice prompts |
| Application does not find updates | The vacuum cleaner is connected to a Chinese server | Change the region to Russia or Singapore |
If none of these methods helped, check:
- π Internet connection: The vacuum cleaner must be connected to Wi-Fi to download language packs.
- π΅ Lockdown IP: Some Chinese servers block requests from Russia. VPN (For example, ProtonVPN) with a location in Singapore or Hong Kong.
- π Battery charge: If the charge level is below 20%, the vacuum cleaner may refuse to install updates.
