Have you noticed that the keyboard on your Xiaomi smartphone has stopped offering words when typing? The hints suddenly disappeared, and autocomplete works once or not at all? This problem is familiar to many owners of devices on MIUI โ from the budget Redmi Note to the flagship Xiaomi 13.
In this article, weโll look at 5 proven ways to return prompts, from basic settings to radical measures like resetting a keyboard or even a system.
- ๐ง Enable autocomplete in a standard keyboard MIUI Gboard
- ๐ฑ Fix failures through cleaning the cache and application data
- ๐ Reset keyboard settings to factory without data loss
- ๐ ๏ธ Resolve conflicts with third-party applications
- ๐ฒ Update or reinstall the keyboard if nothing helps
Important: The methods work on all current versions of MIUI 12/13/14 and most models of Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO. If your device runs on HyperOS, some menu items may be slightly different - we will specify alternative paths.
1. Check the basic autocomplete settings
Most of the time, the clues are lost because of functions that are accidentally disabled, and start by checking the keyboard's basic parameters, it won't take more than a minute.
For the standard MIUI keyboard:
- Open any field to enter text (for example, notes or messenger).
- Touch the badge. โ๏ธ on the keyboard to open the settings.
- Go to the Text Input section โ Auto-filling.
- Make sure it's on: ๐ Showing clues ๐ Automatic space-space arrangement ๐ Correction of typos
For Gboard (Google keyboard):
- Start Settings โ System โ Language and input โ Virtual Keyboard โ Gboard.
- Select Text Corrector.
- Activate: ๐ Showing clues ๐ Auto-filling ๐ Correction of errors
If options are already on but the prompts aren't working, move on to the next method. On some MIUI 14 firmwares, the autocomplete function may conflict with energy saving mode - check if the Ultraeconomy mode is activated in the battery settings.

If you use multiple input languages, make sure that the prompts are included for each individual. For example, in Gboard, autocomplete settings may differ for Russian and English.
2. Cleaning the cache and keyboard data
Failures in prompting are often associated with a damaged app cache, and cleaning temporary files helps 70% of the time.
How to clear the cache for a standard MIUI keyboard:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- In the search bar, type in the Keyboard and select the MIUI Keyboard (or LatinIME on some models).
- Press Warehouse. โ Clear the cache.
- Reset the device.
For Gboard:
- Open Settings โ Apps โ Gboard.
- Select Warehouse โ Clear cache and Clear data.
- โ ๏ธ Warning: Clearing the data will reset all Gboard user words and settings. You can back up the dictionary from the Dictionary menu โ Exports.
After cleaning, check the prompts. If the problem persists, try a more radical method: resetting the keyboard settings.
Take screenshots of current settings
Export a custom dictionary (if any)
Remember the included input languages
Check for backup in Mi Cloud-->
3. Reset keyboard settings to factory
If cleaning the cache doesn't work, the next step is to completely reset the keyboard settings, which will return all settings to default values, but will not affect other data on the phone.
For the standard MIUI keyboard:
- Open Settings โ System โ Language and input โ Virtual Keyboard โ MIUI Keyboard
- In the upper right corner, press three dots (โฎ) and select Reset settings.
- Confirm the action.
For Gboard:
- Start Settings โ System โ Language and Input โ Gboard โ More
- Choose Reset settings.
- Reboot the phone.
How to find and resolve conflict:
- Launch your phone in Safe Mode (press the power button โ Safe Mode).
- Try typing text โ if the hints work, the problem is in one of the apps installed.
- Return to normal mode and turn off applications from the list above, checking the keyboard.
Pay particular attention to:
- ๐ Battery settings: Open Settings โ Battery โ Select applications and make sure that the keyboard is set to No Limitations.
- ๐ก๏ธ Antivirus: temporarily disable protection in Avast, Kaspersky or 360 Security.
- โ๏ธ Special features: check if features like Accessibility Switch or Gesture Management are included in Settings โ Special opportunities.

Safe Mode is the fastest way to check if third-party software is interfering with the keyboard, and if it has prompts, one of the apps installed is to blame.
5. Updating or reinstalling the keyboard
If none of the previous methods worked, the problem may be in the keyboard program itself, in which case the update or complete reinstallation will help.
For the standard MIUI keyboard:
- ๐ฒ Update your phone firmware: Go to Settings โ The phone. โ Updating the system.
- ๐ If there are no updates, try resetting your phone to factory settings (donโt forget to back up your phone!).
- โ ๏ธ Note: On some Xiaomi models (e.g. Redmi Note 10 Pro), the standard keyboard cannot be removed โ only disable in Settings. โ Language and input.
For Gboard:
- Open the Google Play Store and find Gboard.
- If you have an update button, press it.
- If there are no updates, delete Gboard and install it again.
- After reinstalling, go to the keyboard settings and turn on autocomplete.
An alternative is to try another keyboard, such as:
| keyboard | Advantages | Deficiencies |
|---|---|---|
| SwiftKey | Accurate hints, synchronization between devices | Paid themes, sometimes slowing down |
| Fleksy | Gestures, minimalist design | Fewer languages than Gboard |
| Chroom | AI support, adaptive emojis | High battery consumption |
If you decide to change the keyboard, be sure to disable the old one in Settings โ Language & Input โ Virtual Keyboard to avoid conflicts.
Radical measures: system reset or flashing
If the clues never show up, the problem may be system-level, after failed updates, manual interference with system files, or virus infection.
Options for action:
- ๐ Soft reset: go to Settings โ The phone. โ Reset settings and select Reset all settings (app data will be saved).
- ๐ฑ Hard Reset: Full reset to factory settings via Settings โ The phone. โ Resetting settings โ Delete all data. Attention: this will delete all files, photos and applications!
