Changing the font on Xiaomi smartphones is a popular way to personalize, but new headsets are not always read comfortably. Too pretentious, small or non-contrast characters can impair text perception, cause eye fatigue and even lead to input errors. If you want to return the factory version after experimenting with a theme or manually installing the font, this guide will help you do it quickly and without data loss.
Depending on the version of MIUI (12, 13 or 14) and the device model (Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Xiaomi 13T, etc.), the process of returning a standard font may be different. We will look at all current methods, from simple rollback through settings to forced reset via ADB for advanced users, pay special attention to typical errors that may cause the font to fail to recover, and give recommendations for backup before changes.
Why the font on Xiaomi changes on its own
Before you return a factory headset, it's worth figuring out why it might have changed without you, and here are the most common reasons:
- π Automatic update of the subject. MIUI Some system themes (e.g. Mi Fan Festival or Global Dark Mode) automatically use their own fonts when installed, this may happen after updating the firmware or syncing with your Mi Account account.
- π² Reset to factory settings. If you've done a reset through Settings β The phone. β Reset settings, but chose the option to save user data, the font could remain changed due to conflict with the cache theme.
- π₯οΈ Mistakes in work MIUI Themes. Themes application sometimes resets the font settings after updating or when cleaning the cache. MIUI 13 and below.
- π§ Manual intervention through ADB. If you previously changed system settings through adb shell commands (for example, to install custom fonts), this could lead to a conflict with updates.
In most cases, the problem is solved through standard settings, but if the font changed after the firmware update, a deeper intervention may be required. For example, on Xiaomi 12S Ultra with MIUI 14, users encountered a bug when, after upgrading to version 14.0.6.0, the font was reset to the Chinese MiSans headset even on global firmware, in which case the forced reinstallation of the the theme by default helps.
Method 1: Recovery through MIUI settings
The easiest method is to return the standard font through the settings menu.It works on all Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO devices with MIUI 12 and later, if the system files have not been corrupted.
- Open the Themes app** (MIUI Themes) on the home screen or in the app menu.
If the default item is not on the list, try the following steps:
- π Make sure you have the latest version of the Themes app installed (update it via Google Play or App Store).
- π₯ Download the official Default theme from the theme store (find it by βdefaultβ in search).
- π Restart your phone β sometimes changes only apply after a reboot.
βοΈ Preparation for font restoration
Important! On some devices (e.g. POCO F4 GT) after selecting the default font, additional confirmation may be required in the form of a pop-up. If the window does not appear, check the permissions for the Theme application in Settings β Applications β Permissions Management.
Method 2: Reset the settings of the βThemesβ application
If a standard font does not appear in the list or is not applied, the problem may be hidden in the cache of the MIUI Themes application.Resetting its data often helps to return factory settings.
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Search the βThemesβ list** (com.android.themes) and open its settings.
After the reboot, the font should reset to factory-style. If that doesn't happen, try applying any other theme from the store, and then return again by default.
What if the font has not changed after the reset of the topics?
β οΈ Attention! Clearing the Themes app data will reset all your custom design settings (wallpaper, icons, sounds). We recommend saving your favorite themes in your Favorites beforehand or taking screenshots of the current design.
Method 3: Install a standard font through the MIUI Themes Store
On some firmware (especially custom or regional ones), the standard font may not be listed, in which case it can be re-downloaded from the official theme store.
- Open the βThemesβ app** and go to the Fonts section.
For devices with MIUI 14 on Chinese firmware (for example, Xiaomi 13 Pro), the standard font may be called (Xiaomi Lanting).
| Model of the device | Standard font (global firmware) | Standard font (Chinese firmware) |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 12/13 Series | MiSans | (Xiaomi Lanting) |
| Redmi Note 11/12 | Roboto or Google Sans | MiSans |
| POCO F4/F5 | Google Sans | MiSans |
| Xiaomi Pad 5/6 | MiSans | Pro |
If you use a POCO Launcher or a third-party shell, the standard font may be different, in which case try temporarily switching to the standard MIUI launcher (Settings β Home Screen β Default Launcher).
Method 4: Manual recovery through ADB (for advanced)
If none of the above methods worked, you can try returning the standard font via Android Debug Bridge (ADB), which is suitable for users familiar with the command line and requires the enabled USB Debugging mode.
Before starting, make sure that:
- π The phone's on debugging. USB (Settings β The phone. β Version. MIUI β 7 times press to unlock Developer Settings, then Settings β Additionally. β Developer parameters β Debugging by USB).
- π» Drivers are installed on the computer ADB Fastboot (can be downloaded via Android) SDK Platform Tools).
- π You have backed up data β wrong commands can cause crashes.
Instructions:
- Connect your phone to your computer via USB and confirm the debugging permission on the device screen.
- Open the command prompt (cmd on Windows or Terminal on macOS/Linux) and type:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
rm -rf /system/fonts/CustomFont
rm -rf /data/fonts/CustomFont
rebootThese commands will remove all custom fonts from the system folders and reboot the device, and then the standard font should be used after the reboot.
β οΈ Attention! Use! ADB With root rights (su) can disrupt the system if you execute the commands incorrectly. On devices with a locked bootloader (most official firmware), the su command will not work - you will need to unlock the bootloader through the Mi Unlock Tool.
π‘
If the ADB commands did not restore the font, check for font files in /system/fonts through the root-access file manager (e.g. Root Explorer). Standard files should be called MiSans-Regular.ttf, Roboto-Regular.ttf, etc.
Method 5: Complete reset to factory settings
If all previous methods failed, the last resort is hard reset, which will delete all user data, but is guaranteed to return factory settings, including font.
How to perform the reset:
- Back up important data (photos, contacts, messages) through Settings β About Phone β Backup or manually.
- Go to Settings β About Phone β Resetting β Erase all data.
- Enter your password (if required) and confirm the reset.
- After restarting, perform the initial device setup.
On some models (e.g. Redmi K50 Gaming), the reset can be performed via Recovery Mode:
- Turn off the phone.
- Press the Power + Volume buttons up until the MI logo appears.
- Select Wipe Data β Wipe All Data (manage volume buttons, confirm β power button).
Once reset, the font will be restored, but all applications and data will have to be reconfigured, and if the font problem was caused by corrupting system files, this method will help 99% of the time.
π‘
A complete reset is the only way to return a standard font if it has been changed at the firmware level (for example, after a failed update or manual editing of system files).
Frequent mistakes and their solutions
When trying to return a standard font, users often face typical problems, and here are the most common ones and ways to fix them:
- π The font is reset after the reboot. Cause: conflict with the installed theme. Solution: delete all custom themes in Settings β Topics β My themes and apply the standard.
- π± There is no default option in the font list, Reason: Themes app cache is damaged or the system font is missing. Solution: clear the Topic app data (see Method 2) or update it MIUI.
- π§ ADB The reason is no root access or the bootloader is blocked. Solution: unlock the bootloader through the Mi Unlock Tool (instructions on the official Xiaomi website).
- π Font changed after the update MIUI. The reason: the new firmware version brought an updated system font, so you can either wait for the patch or roll back to the previous version via Fastboot.
If none of the solutions worked, check your device for viruses (for example, through Malwarebytes or Dr.Web).Some malware changes the system fonts to mask phishing pages.
