Why the Globe on Xiaomi Keyboard is Missing and How to Fix It
You used to switch input languages quickly on a Xiaomi smartphone with a globe icon on your keyboard, but suddenly it disappeared? This problem is common for users of both the standard MIUI keyboard and Gboard (keyboard from Google). The reasons can be different: from accidental change of settings to failure after the system update. 90% of the time, the solution takes no more than 3 minutes - the main thing is to know where to look.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to return the Globe icon on the Xiaomi keyboard, including the Redmi Note 12/13, POCO X5 and the flagship Xiaomi 14 series. Particular attention will be paid to the differences between MIUI 14 and MIUI 15, as well as the nuances of working with Gboard and third-party keyboards. If you have already tried standard methods without success, at the end of the article there is a section with rare but effective solutions.
Before you start settings, make sure that on your smartphone:
- π± At least two input languages are established (for example, Russian). + English).
- π Keyboard updated to the latest version (especially relevant for Gboard).
- π οΈ No active energy saving modes blocking background processes.
Method 1: Enabling the globe in the settings of the standard MIUI keyboard
If you use your native MIUI keyboard, the first thing you do is check the settings. In the latest firmware (MIUI 14/15), the path to options has changed, so the old instructions may not work.
- Open any application where the keyboard appears (such as Notes or Messages).
- Touch the gear badge (βοΈ) on the keyboard panel to open its settings.
- Go to Languages and Input β Keyboard Management β Settings of the current keyboard.
- Find the Toolbar or Additional Keys (name depends on the version of MIUI).
- Activate the switch next to the Globe Badge or Language Switch option.
If there's no Globe icon, it means your MIUI version has it hidden by default, and an alternative method will help.
βοΈ What to do if there is no option "Globe Sign"
Important! On some Xiaomi models (like the Redmi 10C or POCO M5), the globe icon can only appear in the portrait orientation of the screen. Try turning the phone to check this out.
Method 2: Configure language switching in Gboard
If you use Gboard, the return algorithm for the globe will be different, and the main difference is that in Gboard, the Globe icon can be hidden not only because of settings, but also because of a conflict with system permissions.
- Open Settings β System and Device β Language and Entering β Virtual Keyboard.
- Select Gboard from the list of installed keyboards.
- Go to Settings β Preferences β Globe button.
- Make sure that the slider Shows the button to switch languages is active.
- If you donβt have an option, upgrade to Gboard in Google Play or reinstall the app.
Gboard also has a hidden feature that allows you to change the appearance of the icon of the globe.
- Press the globe button on the keyboard (if it appears).
- In the menu that appears, select the settings of the globe button.
- You can choose between a classic icon. π, flag of the country or abbreviation of the language (for example, RU/EN).
π‘
If the Gboard update has gone missing, try clearing the app's cache: Settings β Apps β Gboard β Storage β Clear the cache.
Method 3: Adding a second input language (if the globe doesn't appear)
A common reason for the Globes to disappear is that there's no second input language, and even if you're sure that languages are added, check them again, sometimes when you update MIUI, you reset your default settings.
- Go to Settings β Additional β Language and input β Current Keyboard β Input languages.
- Click Language Management (or Add Language).
- Select the language you want from the list (e.g. English (USA) or Ukrainian).
- Activate the switch next to the added language.
After adding the language, check if the globe appears. If not, restart your smartphone. Some Xiaomi models (such as the Redmi Note 11 Pro+) require you to manually switch languages in the keyboard settings, even if languages are added.
What if the language is added but the globe does not appear?
On Xiaomi models with MIUI 15, the globe may not appear if Easy Entering is enabled. Turn it off in the keyboard settings to return the standard toolbar.
Method 4: Reset keyboard settings to factory
If previous methods have not worked, try resetting your keyboard settings, which will help in cases where the problem is caused by:
- π§ Conflict after update MIUI.
- π² Failure to install third-party themes or fonts.
- π€ Migrating data when transferring from another device.
Instructions for discharge:
- Open Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the MIUI Keyboard (or Gboard if you use it) in the list.
- Select Warehouse β Clear the data (not just cache!).
- Confirm the action and restart the smartphone.
Attention, after the reset, you'll have to do it again.
- π€ Add input languages.
- π¨ Customize theme and size of the keyboard.
- π Include autocomplete and other functions.
π‘
Resetting your keyboard settings is a last resort, so try upgrading to the latest version of MIUI or reinstalling Gboard before you do.
Method 5: Manually Enabling the Globe through ADB (for Advanced Users)
If standard methods did not help, and the globe is critically necessary, you can try to turn it on through the Internet. ADB-This method is suitable for users familiar with debugging on the USB. Be careful: the wrong commands can disrupt the system.
Instructions:
- Turn on Developer Mode on your smartphone: go to Settings β About Phone and 7 times click on the MIUI version.
- Return to Settings β Additional β For developers and activate Debugging over USB.
- Connect your smartphone to your PC, install ADB Tools and execute the command:
adb shell settings put secure show_ime_with_hard_keyboard 1If the team doesnβt work, try an alternative:
adb shell am broadcast -a com.android.server.wm.action.CHANGE_INPUT_METHOD --es ime com.sohu.inputmethod.sogou.xiaomi/.SogouIME --ez force trueWarning: Using ADB can cause keyboard failures if you enter the wrong settings. Before experimenting, back up your data via Settings β Memory β Backup.
What if the ADB does not recognize the device?
Rare Causes of Globe Disappearance and Their Solutions
If none of these methods helped, the problem may be related to:
| Reason. | How to check | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Conflict with the subject of design | Try changing the theme in Settings β Screen β Theme | Set a standard theme or update your current one |
| Restrictions on parental control | Check your settings β Accounts β Family Access | Turn off the restrictions on the keyboard |
| Damage to system files | Start Safe Mode (click the power button) | If the globe appears, remove the newly installed apps. |
| Regional restrictions | Check the region in Settings β Additional β Language and Region | Change the region to Russia or the United States |
On some MIUI firmware for the Chinese market (China ROM), the globe can be disabled at the system level, in which case only flashing on the Global ROM or installing custom firmware (for example, Xiaomi.EU) will help.

If you use custom firmware, check for the Enable Globe Key mod in the Magisk or Xposed settings.
