You turned on a Xiaomi smartphone and found that the usual watch from the home screen disappeared? This problem occurs on users on all versions of the MIUI shell — from 12 to 15, regardless of the device model (be it Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 or flagship Xiaomi 14).
There are a number of ways to bring the watch back to the screen, from basic settings to manual recovery via ADB. In this article, we’ll look at all the working methods, including those that help even when the standard addition of the widget doesn’t work. Importantly, some solutions require super-user rights (root), but most do without them.
If you are not sure why the watch is missing, start with the first section, which describes typical scenarios. For power users, move on to advanced methods immediately (section 5).
Why the Watch Has Disappeared From Xiaomi’s Screen: 4 Reasons
Before you restore the widget, it is worth understanding why it is missing, which will help you choose the right way to solve it and avoid repeating the problem.
- 🔄 Update MIUI: After installing a new version of the shell (for example, with the MIUI 13 on MIUI 14) system widgets may be reset, due to a change in launcher structure.
- 🧹 Clearing the launcher cache: Forced data cleanup of the com.miui.home application (via Settings) → Applications) often lead to the disappearance of all widgets, including clocks.
- 📱 Resetting Launcher Settings: Long-term tap on the home screen and selecting the Reset option returns the desktop to factory-like - no custom widgets.
- 🛠️ Conflict with SEOs: Apps like Greenify, SD Maid or even built-in security MIUI They can block the operation of system widgets, taking them for “background processes».
Less often, the fault is damage to system files (for example, after a failed root access) or activation of the mode for children, which limits the display of widgets, in which cases deeper manipulations will be required.
Method 1: Standard addition of a watch widget through the launcher
In 80% of cases, the watch is returned simply by adding the widget again, and the instructions are valid for all versions of the MIUI Launcher (including MIUI 14/15):
- Touch the empty space on the home screen and hold your finger for 1-2 seconds until the menu appears.
- Select "Widgets" (or Widgets in English firmware).
- Scroll down to the Systems section and find the Watch widget (the dial icon).
- Hold the widget and drag it to a free space on the screen. Release your finger to hold it.
If the Watch widget is not on the list, try:
- 🔍 Reboot your smartphone (sometimes widgets don’t show up due to temporary failure).
- 📁 Check the Hidden Widgets folder (if you have one in your launcher).
- 🔄 Update MIUI Launcher via Play Market or App Store (for global firmware).
☑️ Preparation before adding a widget
⚠️ Note: Some firmware (e.g. Xiaomi.eu) may call the watch widget Clock Widget or Analog Clock. If you use a third-party launcher (Nova Launcher, Hyperion), go back to the standard first. MIUI Launcher.
Method 2: Recovery through system settings (no reset)
If the watch widget doesn't appear on the list of available watches, the problem may lie in the system components that are disabled, to return them:
- Open Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select "Show all apps."
- In the search bar, enter a clock (or clock in English firmware).
- Find the Watch app (com.android.deskclock) and open its settings.
- Make sure that the options “Display widget” and “Allow system settings to change” are enabled.
- Clear the app cache and restart the smartphone.
For MIUI 14+ versions, check out:
- 🔧 Section Settings → Desktop → Widget settings – there may be a switch “System widgets».
- 📵 Turn off the power saving mode for the Watch app (in Settings) → Battery → Choice of applications).
| MIUI version | The path to widget settings | Additional action |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 12/13 | Settings → Desktop → Widgets | Reboot Launcher through Settings → Applications → MIUI Launcher → Forced Stop |
| MIUI 14 | Settings → Screen → Home Screen → Widgets | Update Google Play Services (affects the display of system widgets) |
| MIUI 15 (Beta) | Settings → Personalization → Widgets | Reset the launcher settings in Settings → Applications → MIUI Launcher → Storage → Reset |
💡
If the widget doesn't appear after cleaning the Watch app's cache, try installing any third-party app with a watch (like Droid27's Clock Widget).
Method 3: Reset the launcher settings without data loss
If previous methods didn’t work, try resetting MIUI Launcher settings – this will bring back the standard layout of widgets, including the clock, but won’t affect your files or installed apps.
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Find the MIUI Launcher (or com.miui.home) and open it.
- Select "Storage» → «Reset (or Clear Data).
- Confirm the action. The launcher will restart, and the home screen will have standard widgets, including the clock.
Once the launcher is reset, all your folders, shortcuts and wallpapers on your desktop will be deleted and you will have to reconfigure them, but this method is guaranteed to return system widgets if they were not deleted at the firmware level.
⚠️ Note: On some custom firmware (e.g. Pixel Experience for Xiaomi), a launcher reset may result in a reboot cycle.
What if the watch did not appear after the launcher was reset?
Method 4: Use of third-party widgets (if system widgets don't work)
If Xiaomi’s home watch is not returned, third-party widgets will be a temporary solution, not only replacing the missing functionality, but also offering additional features (weather, calendar, customization).
The best replacement apps:
- ⏰ Clock Widget (from Clock Widget) Droid27) — Minimalist watches with theme support MIUI.
- 🌤️ Chronus – weather, pedometer and notification widget (paid version).
- 🎨 KWGT Kustom Widget Maker – to create custom watches (requires customization skills).
- ⚙️ Another Widget - imitating style MIUI, transparency.
How to determine:
- Download the app from Google Play (or APKMirror if Play is not available).
- Add the widget to the screen in the same way as the system (clasp your finger in the free space → “Widgets”).
- Customize the appearance in the app menu (size, color, time format).
For MIUI 14/15 users with Super Wallpapers: Some third-party widgets may conflict with the animation. In this case, turn off superwallpaper in Settings → Wallpaper → Dynamic Wallpaper.
💡
The side widgets don't replace the system clock in the status bar. If you want a watch in the top panel, go to Method 5.
Method 5: Advanced methods (ADB, root, flashing)
If the clock is gone after a failed update, root access, or manipulation of system files, more radical measures will be needed, methods that are suitable for power users.
Option A: Recovery through ADB (no root)
With Android Debug Bridge, you can force the clock’s system widget to be enabled:
- Install ADB on your PC and connect your smartphone in debugging mode (includes in Settings → About Phone → MIUI version → 7 times press Developer Settings to unlock, then enable “Debugging by USB”).
- Follow the command: adb shell pm enable com.android.deskclock
- Reset the device.
Option B: Manual file recovery (root required)
If the widget has been removed from /system/priv-app/DeskClock:
- Download the original DeskClock.apk for your version of MIUI (e.g. with 4PDA or Xiaomi Firmware Updater).
Option C: Fastboot flashing (extreme case)
If the watch is lost after a firmware failure, restore the system partition without losing data:
- Download fastboot firmware for your model from the official Xiaomi website.
- Connect your phone to your PC in Fastboot mode (press Power + Vol− when you turn on).
- Run the command (system! only): fastboot flash system.img
⚠️ Warning: Fastboot flashing may result in bootloader locking on new models (Xiaomi) 13/14). Unblock before the procedure OEM Unlock in Developer Settings and Link Mi Account.
