Xiaomi’s small print can be a major inconvenience — especially if you’re using a smartphone in poor light or have vision problems. Fortunately, the manufacturer has provided several ways to zoom in on text, from basic system settings to hidden features for individual applications. In this article, we’ll look at all the methods available, including those that aren’t written in the official instructions.
It's important to understand that changing the size of the font affects not only the ease of reading, but also the display of the interface. When you zoom in, some elements can go off the screen or overlap. We’ll tell you how to avoid such problems and choose the best settings for your model – be it Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 or flagship series Xiaomi 14.
The article is relevant for all devices on the basis of MIUI 12, MIUI 13, MIUI 14 and MIUI 15 (including global and Chinese firmware versions) If your smartphone runs on pure Android (e.g. Xiaomi) A3 or POCO F1 with custom firmware, some methods may differ - we will also mention this separately.
1. Standard change of font size in MIUI settings
The easiest way to increase text is to use the built-in options, which works on all Xiaomi devices regardless of the model and firmware version.
- Open the Settings app (the gear icon on the home screen).
- Go to the Screen (or Display in English).
- Select the text size (Font Size).
- With the slider, adjust the font size. Values are available from Small (A-) to Very Large (AA+).
Changes are instantaneous – you don’t have to restart your device. Note that this method only affects system applications (Messages, Contacts, Settings) and some third-party programs that support dynamic text scaling.

2. Hidden scaling settings (for power users)
MIUI It hides a number of additional parameters that allow you to customize the display of text more accurately. These options are not visible in the standard menu, but they can be activated through developer mode or special commands.
Activation of the developer mode
To access hidden settings:
- Open the Settings. → The phone.
- Find the MIUI version and tap it 7 times in a row. You will be notified of becoming a developer!
- Go back to the main settings menu and find a new section for developers.
Adjusting the density of the screen (DPI)
The Minimum Width (or Smallest Width) parameter allows you to change the pixel density, which indirectly affects the size of text and interface elements:
- In the section For developers, find the item Minimum width.
- The default value is equal 360dp or 411dp (It depends on the model. 20-30 units (e.g. with 411 before 380).
- Restart the device to apply the changes.

Browsers (Chrome, Mi Browser)
In Google Chrome and the standard Mi Browser, you can zoom in text without changing the scale of the entire page:
- 🔍 In Chrome: Open the menu (three dots) → Settings → Special facilities → Text size. Values available are 50 to 200%.
- 🌐 In Mi Browser: Click on the icon AA in the address bar and select the desired font size.
Messengers (Telegram, WhatsApp)
In Telegram, the text size is changed through the chat settings:
- Open any chat room.
- Slip by the name of the interlocutor (top panel).
- Select the size of the text and set the appropriate value.
WhatsApp has no global setting for changing the font, but you can use a zoom gesture: bring two fingers together on the screen (as when you reduce the photo) – the text will temporarily increase.
Social media (VK, Instagram)
The VK and Instagram apps do not support changing font size through settings, but you can:

4. Use of large-printed design themes
MIUI Supports the installation of themes that may include not only color scheme changes, but also modified fonts:
- Open the Themes app (brush icon on the home screen).
- Go to the Fonts section (or use the search for "large font").

If after applying the theme some apps don’t display correctly, try clearing their cache in the settings (Settings) → Annexes → Select a program → Clear the cache).
5. Special facilities for the visually impaired
If you need not just to increase the text, but to adapt the smartphone for users with serious vision problems, you can use the device. MIUI There is a special mode called Special Opportunities (or Accessibility) which includes:
- 👓 Magnifying glass – temporary increase in the part of the screen with triple tap.
- 📖 Reading screen – voiceover of text and interface elements.
- 🔍 High contrast – improving the visibility of text in the background.
- 🎯 Large controls – increase buttons and icons.
To activate these functions:
- Go to Settings. → Special facilities.
- Choose a Vision (Vision)
- Activate the necessary options and adjust their parameters.
Magnifying glass is especially useful for reading small text in applications where you can’t change the font in standard ways (for example, in banking programs).
- Enable the function in the settings of special features.
- Tap the screen three times (the gesture can be changed in the settings).
- Move the magnifying glass around the screen to enlarge the desired fragment.
⚠️ Warning: Read screen mode requires you to download an additional voice packet (about 200 MB). Make sure you have enough free space on your device or a memory card is installed.
6 Problems and Solutions in Changing Text Size
When you zoom in, you might encounter a number of common problems, and we've collected the most common cases and ways to solve them:

If none of the suggested methods helped, try resetting the screen settings to the standard:
- Go to Settings → System and device → Resetting.
- Select Reset Screen Settings (not to be confused with a full reset!).
- Confirm the action and restart the device.

Before resetting the screen settings, take screenshots of the current parameters (font size, DPI, theme of the design) to quickly restore them after resetting.
7.Alternative ways to use older Xiaomi models
If your smartphone is working on MIUI 11 or earlier versions (e.g. Redmi) 4X, Mi A1, POCO F1 On older firmware, some of the methods described may not be available. In this case, try the following alternatives:
Third-party launchers with support for scaling
Install an alternative launcher, for example:

After the launcher is installed:

7.2. Applications for Forced Scaling
In Google Play, there are utilities that forcibly change the size of text in all applications:
