Why do Redmi Note 7 users want to change the font size?
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, launched in 2019, is still popular with users due to its balanced specs and affordable price, but as people age, many owners face the need to increase the font, whether it is due to poor vision, ease of reading in transport or simply a desire to adapt the interface to their preferences.
MIUI offers several built-in ways to zoom in, but not all of them are obvious. Moreover, after the system updates, the settings menu may change, and some options may disappear. In this article, we will discuss 5 working methods, including standard tools, ADB commands for power users and third-party solutions. Special attention will be paid to the problem of โcut textโ in some applications after changing the font โ this is a frequent complaint of owners of Redmi Note 7 with firmware based on Android 9-10.
If you have already tried to change the font through Settings โ Screen, but the result did not suit you - do not rush to despair. You may just lack one nuance, which we will discuss below.
Method 1: Standard Resize of a Typeface in MIUI
The easiest and safest method is to use Xiaomi's built-in settings, which are suitable for most users and do not require root rights or technical knowledge.
- Open โSettingsโ (the gear icon on the home screen or in the application menu).
- Go to the Screen section.
- Select Text Size and Display (in some versions of MIUI, it may be called Font Size).
- Move the slider to the right to enlarge the font, or to the left to shrink it. Changes apply instantly.
MIUI has 5 preset scaling levels:
- ๐ฑ Small โ minimum size, suitable for compact display of information.
- ๐๏ธ Medium โ the default size on the Redmi Note 7.
- ๐ Large โ recommended for reading long texts.
- ๐ Very large โ noticeably increases text, but can break the layout in some applications.
- ๐ Huge โ maximum size, suitable for users with severe vision problems.
โ ๏ธ Note: When selecting โVery Bigโ or โHugeโ options in some applications (e.g. Telegram or VKontakte), text may go beyond the buttons or crop, due to the adaptive design of the applications, not an error. MIUI.
If you lack the options offered, move on to the next method - it allows you to more accurately adjust the scale.
Method 2: Scaling the entire screen (including icons and interface elements)
If you want to zoom in not only the font, but all the interface elements (icons, buttons, panels), use Screen Scale. This option changes the resolution of DPI (dots per inch), which affects the size of all objects on the screen.
Instructions:
- ๐ฑ Open the Settings. โ Screen. โ Text size and display.
- ๐ง Slip on the item Screen size (or display size in older versions) MIUI).
- ๐ Choose one of the options: Standard, Large or Large.
| Screen size | The effect | Side effects |
|---|---|---|
| Standard. | Original resolution (409 DPI for Redmi Note 7) | No. |
| Big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big | Increase of elements by ~20% | Some applications may be displayed incorrectly |
| Huge. | ~30% increase, large icons and text | Vertical scrolling in the menu, artifacts in games are possible |
This method is useful if you have difficulty pressing small buttons or reading menu text, but note that not all apps correctly support the modified DPI. For example, in some banking applications or games, the interface may move.

If after changing the screen scale, the application began to display incorrectly, try clearing its cache in Settings. โ Annexes โ Application management โ [name] โ Clear the cache.
Method 3: Use the "For the Visually Impaired" mode (TalkBack and High Contrast)
For users with serious vision problems, Xiaomi has provided a special mode โFor the visually impairedโ, which includes not only an increase in the font, but also other accessibility features:
- ๐ TalkBack โ voice assistant that voices actions on the screen.
- ๐ผ๏ธ High contrast โ improves readability of text in bright sun.
- ๐ Touching zoom โ Temporary scaling of part of the screen.
To activate this mode:
- Go to Settings. โ Special facilities.
- Choose for the visually impaired.
- Activate the Large Text switch and configure additional settings as desired.
โ ๏ธ Warning: TalkBack mode dramatically changes smartphone management - instead of the usual taps, you will need to use gestures with two fingers. If you turned it on accidentally to return standard control, hold two fingers on the screen for 3 seconds and select Turn off TalkBack.
This method is suitable for temporary font enlargement, but may be inconvenient for constant use due to the changed logic of interaction with the device.
Method 4: Change the font through ADB (for power users)
If the built-in MIUI settings don't suit you, you can manually change the system's font size and DPI scale settings using ADB (Android Debug Bridge), a method that requires connecting your smartphone to your computer and basic command line knowledge.
Preparation:
- ๐ป Install. ADB Fastboot Tools on the computer.
- ๐ฑ Turn on Debugging. USB Redmi Note 7: Settings โ The phone. โ Version. MIUI (Tap 7 times to activate Developer Mode, then return to Settings โ Additionally. โ For developers โ Debugging by USB.
- ๐ Connect your phone to your PC through USB-cable (original or high quality).
Commands for changing the font:
adb shell settings put system font_scale 1.3Where 1.3 is the zoom factor (1.0 is the standard size, 1.5 is the 50% increase).
To change the screen density (DPI), use:
adb shell wm density 380The standard value for the Redmi Note 7 is 409 DPI. The smaller the number, the larger the items (e.g., 380 will increase the icons by ~10%).
โ ๏ธ Attention: Incorrect values DPI If the screen becomes unreadable after the command, return the standard value: adb shell wm density reset or restart the phone in safe mode (hold the power button). โ Restarting in Safe Mode).

Method 5: Third-party applications for fine-tuning the font
If you need to change the font selectively (for example, only in the browser or messengers), you can use third-party utilities. Importantly, most of these applications require root rights or only work on older versions of Android.
Popular solutions:
- ๐ฑ Big Font โ allows you to change the font size for individual applications (requires root).
- ๐จ iFont โ not only scales, but also replaces fonts (works without root on the Internet). MIUI 10 and below).
- ๐ง App Settings (Xposed module) - advanced setting DPI for each application separately.
Example of iFont usage:
- Download and install iFont from Google Play.
- Launch the application and grant superuser rights (if there is root).
- Select the Local tab and tap the Default font.
- Adjust the size with the Scale slider (50 to 200%).
- Apply the changes and restart the phone.
Risks of using third-party font applications
Solving problems after changing the font
Even if you've successfully enlarged the font, there may be side effects, and here are the most common problems and ways to solve them:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Text is cropped in annexes | The application is not adapted to large print | Reduce the font scale or use Screen size = Standard |
| Icons and buttons are getting too big. | Changed screen DPI | Reset the standard value: adb shell wm density reset |
| After the reboot, the font dropped | Third-party application without root rights | Use ADB or get root access |
| Navigation gestures do not work | Screen scale conflict | Return the screen size to standard. |
If the interface becomes uncomfortable after the changes, you can always reset the font settings:
- Go to Settings โ Screen โ Text size and display.
- Select Standard for font and screen scale.
- Reboot the phone.

Before experimenting with font, back up important data. In extreme cases, you can reset your phone to factory settings (Settings โ About Phone โ Reset), but this will delete all user data.
