How to increase the font on the screen of the Xiaomi phone: all the ways for Redmi, POCO and Mi

Small print on the screen of Xiaomi smartphone can cause discomfort — especially if you use the phone in motion, in bright sun or just have problems with vision. Fortunately, the manufacturer has provided several ways to increase text, from basic system settings to hidden functions for fine-tuning. In this article, we will discuss all available methods, including changing the font size in individual applications, adjusting the screen scale and even solutions for devices with custom firmware.

It is important to understand that the MIUI interface (branded shell Xiaomi) is regularly updated, so the location of some menu items may vary slightly depending on the version. However, the principles remain unchanged: you can always find the right parameters, following our logic. If after changes the text is displayed incorrectly (for example, climbs out of the screen elements), we will also show you how to return the settings to the factory.

We will focus on POCO and Redmi smartphone users, who, despite the visual differences, all use MIUI, so the instructions are universal, and for older models (e.g. Redmi Note 4X or Mi A1), we will give alternative methods, as they may lack some features.

1. Standard change of font size in MIUI

The easiest way to increase the font is to take advantage of the built-in system settings, which works on all Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones with MIUI 10 and later, including the latest updates to MIUI 14 and HyperOS.

To change the size of the text:

1. Open the Settings app (the gear icon on the home screen).
2. Go to the Screen section (in some versions – Display).
3. Select Text Size or Font and Scale.
4. Move the slider to the right to enlarge the font. There are values available from Small to Huge.
5. Click Ready or Apply to save the changes.

Most versions of MIUI have 5 preset font sizes available, so if you don't have a maximum value, move on to the next section, where we'll show you how to get around this limitation.

If after changing the font size, some of the inscriptions in the applications began to be cropped, try to also zoom in on the screen (see Section 3 for more on this).

2. Enlarge the font through "Special Opportunities"

For visually impaired users, MIUI features a larger font mode that allows you to set the text size larger than standard settings, a technique that is particularly relevant for older people or those who use a smartphone at a distance from their eyes.

How to set the mode:

• 📱 Open the Settings. → Special facilities.
• 🔍 Select Visual Settings (or Display Settings in older versions).
• 🔤 Activate the switch Enlarged font.
• 📏 Adjust the slider to the desired size (values up to 200% of the standard are available).

An important nuance: this mode only affects system applications (e.g. Settings, Phone, Messages). In third-party programs (e.g. WhatsApp or Instagram), the font will remain the same. To change the text there, read section 4.

Size of the screen (Display Size)

If you zoom in on the font, you get text that falls out of the buttons or doesn't fit in the application windows, try zooming in, which pro rataly enlarges all interface elements, including icons, menus, and the font itself.

How to scale:

1. Go to Settings → Screen → Screen size.
2. Choose one of the preset options: Small, Standard or Large.
3. To fine tune, press Additional and move the slider manually (values between 80% and 130%) are available.

On models with a screen resolution below Full HD (such as Redmi 9A or POCO C31), a large zoom can lead to blurring of text, in which case we recommend combining this method with changing the font from section 1.

4. Change of font in individual applications

Many popular apps (such as Chrome, Telegram, or YouTube) have their own font settings that are independent of system settings, which is handy if you need to zoom in on just one service.

Examples for popular applications:

• 🌐 Google Chrome: ⋮ → Settings → Special facilities → Size of text.
• 📱 Telegram: ⚙️ Settings → Appearance → Font size (values available from 14pt before 24pt).
• 📺 YouTube: Account → Settings → General. → Size of text.
• 💬 WhatsApp: There is no separate font setting in this messenger, but you can zoom in with a gesture (double touch) + finger-strip).

If the desired application is not on the list, check its settings manually - often the option is hidden in the section Special features or Appearance. For social networks (for example, VKontakte or Facebook), the change of font is only available through the browser version of the site (in the mobile application this feature is usually absent).

5. Installation of custom font with enlarged characters

If the built-in settings aren't enough, you can set up a custom font with obviously large characters, which requires a little more effort but gives you maximum flexibility, and is suitable for MIUI 12+ smartphones with an unlocked bootloader or root rights.

Installation instructions:

1. Download a.ttf font with large characters (like Roboto Bold or Arial Black) from a trusted source (we recommend Google Fonts).
2. Place the font file in the Download folder on your phone.
3. Install iFont from Google Play (or FontFix for root-righted devices).
4. In the app, select Local, find the downloaded font and click Set.
5. Confirm the installation and restart the phone.

Warning: Some models (POCO F3, Redmi K40) may have system icons knocked off after custom font installation, in which case return the standard font through the same iFont app.

6. Solving problems after changing font

Sometimes, when you zoom in, you get bugs, blurry labels, incorrect menu displays, or folding in apps, and here's how to fix them:

• 📱 Cache Clearing: For a Problem App, Go to Settings → Annexes → [Title of the annex] → Warehouse → Clear the cache.
• 🔧 Rebooting your phone: Sometimes it helps to simply turn off and turn on the device.
• 📲 Update MIUI: In new versions of firmware, scaling bugs are often fixed.

On Xiaomi smartphones with a MediaTek processor (such as the Redmi 10C or POCO M4 Pro), the interface animation may disappear after changing the font. This is not a critical error, but if it is annoying, return the standard settings.

For Android One devices (e.g. Mi A1, Mi A2), the instruction is simplified by going to Settings → System → Advanced Settings → Font Size. The same options are available here as on “pure” Android.
